Stormtrooper pepakura - TERRA RETURNS! WITH PICS!

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

Hi Terra1, no update tonight?
I ordered my milliput today, I'm off on holiday so will miss a week of your build and updates.
I found hoopers build and am following that too.
Had a rant about movie accurate low quality shouldnt be the standard.
Good luck. See your progress next week.
Ps I gotta learn about this pepakura stuff, I fancy starting from scratch like you two have done.
I got the viewer.
I got an anh Stormtrooper pep file.
It showed a helmet shape and that was it.
I couldn't see what you do from there on.
I thought you printed a pattern from there that tells you where to fold,
Do you have to have special paper?
Where do the fold and glue instructions come from?

yeah pepakura is a great thing! endless possibilities.

i started with SpaceCowboy's "ANH Stunt Stormtrooper Helmet-Pepakura"
many people use the DungBeetle stormtrooper pep yet i think SpaceCowboy's is a better shape.

its been unfolded into a handy PDF for us MAC users, yet the unfold does not include any glue tabs, you have to manually figure out where to add them as you go, its a bit tricky but worth it as its a great pep.

you should check out Fierfek's thread, he is a pepakura king and has created some amazing pep files.

its best to use 300gsm paper, i have a laserjet printer in my house yet only 200gsm will bend through it, i get a print shop to print on the 300gsm.

enjoy your holiday!

First, I must say terra1 you have done a superb job thus far with your helmet, and I can tell you have learned a lot for your first build in a very timely manner. I wish my first build went this well, but of course many are impatient on their first build. I have been working on a new stormtrooper helmet model and will post pics soon. So, now there will be more accurate choices for TK helmet pep builds. I can't wait to see some paint on that helmet of yours.

stay away Fierfek with your sorcerous ways! tempting me with your new stormtrooper pep! :eek:P just kidding i look forward to be tempted :thumbsup think it could be your boba next tho :love

thanks for the compliment mate, i've surprised myself with how well its come out so far, i feel once you understand how the materials behave it becomes pretty instinctive and once that happens half the battle's been won!

its pushed my mind into having to actually think again and thats a good thing!

hope to get the vocoder started/finished tomorrow, i've been putting it off yet cant avoid it forever :lol hope to have a nice update tomorrow night.

hey lando still not able to get resin, man thats a pain in the a$$

i used to paint cardboard masks with layers of wood glue, it was on thicker cardboard but if your careful not to soak the card on the first layer it could be fine, if it absorbs to much it probably will deform.

to strengthen it up you could make a pulp with tissues/toilet roll and watered down wood glue for reinforcing the inside.

obviously this is an experimental suggestion to be tested first, i think it would work but would be terrible to see a good pep ruined by an untested suggestion.

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

what putty stuff did you use for the detailed parts, such as the ear's? and the mouth/frown? if its stated in the post when you did the ear's and frown then just call me a tool and i'll happy look through the thread to find it, im just too lazy to do so :)

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

Milliput!

don't buy it from places like Hobbycraft though, they're a rip off (£8.99!) I get mine from amazon, but it's also readily available on fleabay at around £3 delivered. It's an absolut bloody godsend too!

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

yeah exactly what hooper said! the stuffs really handy! a must!!!

if you see any parts on my build that are olive green or rusty brown, those are made from milliput.

the olive is the standard milliput and the brown is the terracotta milliput, they both behave exactly the same from what i can tell.

Not started on my vocoder yet, but have a very detonate idea of how I want to do it!

Also been using the standard milliput too, which seems easier to work with than the terracotta. Seems to sand much easier!

Looking forward to your pics

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

i think this detail will give me the same trouble as the frown, this was my second attempt yet wasn't happy with it so i gave my new dremel a test run.

feel much better now i've sawn it out and i can start fresh.

hopefully third time lucky will prevail, as with the frown )

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

ouch...that big hole is making me cringe! what is it you are using for the vocoder mate? looks perfect for the job, but looks like you used a heck of a thickness of putty underneath it essentially losing the depth in the chin piece (sorry for stating the obvious).

it just doesn't feel right giving you crit after the blinding work you have done so far, but i'm sure you'll end up with it bob-on.

I plan on using several pieces of thin plywood, shaped and rounded off, glued together then contoured on the backside to match the shape of the chin piece and glue it in place.

Re: Stormtrooper pepakura

3rd times a charm

im sure you'll get it down to a tee, just a matter of time, thats what im started to learn more than ever
