Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Lee lead the way on the construction of his chicken, I love the geometry of his version and it's so clean!! One of the best scratch-builders out there! Kudos, and thanks for all of the assists, Lee!

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Lee, your AT-ST looks great. It's awesome to see all the parts coming together and the pictures are such a help. I agree with Imagineer, it is so clean. Kudos to you. :thumbsup :thumbsup :thumbsup

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

B im not sure if anything else differs in that kit, i have 35017 and its all good, maybe buy one and go through it, i think that is the re released Afrika campaign variant?
Allan, thanks lol, as for being a great scratchbuilder, lol, not sure about that :lol, i get by i guess, but i will say its all more fun that working with resin!

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

OK the saga continues lol. Been playing with a few leg part fitments, one of which (the right inside Churchill part) ive made a slight improvement in fitment....the ILM way is just plain ugly and dare i say....poop!

The main leg strut parts took me an age to even get round to cutting, such is its expense and scarce nature....but in the end i had to say "just do it" lol. I wont divulge this kit right now as it wasnt my finding, so more to come on that!
For now ive just cut and clamped to give me some idea, as there is an underlying part (at the rear of the main leg strut) here we are still to ID.

Other parts on the calf plates you will pick out as Tamiya Churchill and Flak 38.

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Lee, the chin gun mounts have got to be the gun cradle parts from the Tamiya 88mm FLAK, surely?

Cheers,
Martyn

I obviously don't have the same reference pics as you guys, but I couldn't help noticing the similarity of the Flak 88 mounts with a couple of M42 Duster parts. A possibility?

The duster is used on some other SW models, such as the Slave.
Cheers and love the build-up, JT

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

The pics Jason got are only getting circulated through the guys that bought the armatures (myself not included, shucks..lol). A Japanese guy I spoke with said the pics are under ILM copyright and might be showing up in the next SW: Chronicles edition... can't confirm this though.

I managed to get a hold of a little stash of ESB images. Some from how the model appeared in 1993 at the George Lucas exhibition in Japan. Here's a pic that may or may not be in everyone's collection. I'm particularly interested in knowing what part is on the inside of the right leg, it bears a strong resemblance to what showed up on the full scale rotj prop they filmed in California. It's a big pic, so be warned!

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Dragnlink, et al. I wasn't trying to get photos, I just noticed the similarity with the duster parts after Martyn had suggested the Flak 88 parts, that's all. I had never seen the duster until today and always assumed it was only used on the slave.
One of the "local" online shops is selling the duster for $30 Aus. I was trying to decide whether to get one or not, so I did a google search and turned up the photos.
Thanks for the photo you posted though, I might be able to ID the bracket that holds the BT44 gearbox/transaxle parts at the front of each side of the body. Hmmm, Airfix or Bandai....
Cheers, JT

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Yup you need the Airfix 109 JT. Also just a note, although the rear of the head uses specific Brabham coolant boxes etc, the rest of the trans parts can be sourced from any F1 1/12th kit, as most Fords were pretty generic back then lol....just a tip if your in a pinch!
The curved shroud that then covers this circular trans part, is from the Flak 38.

Cheers Lee, I had ID'd the fender as being from the Flak 38, and I have the BT44 and a Lotus 72D and noticed a lot of similarity between the sprues. Nice having a choice of kits for some parts. Same with the part on the lid from either the Panther G or Jagdpanther.

Isel, thanks for the confirmation, I checked out studioscale.com and my Bandai kit last night and confirmed the Airfix part too. There seems to be a hole drilled in it just behind the front nub. I guess that's for a support rod for the transaxle part.

Great progress on both of your builds btw, they are both very sharp and clean.

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

JT, ok the hole in the 109 engine bracket, its for access to the neck adjustment screw buddy, it passes through the bracket hole, and Trans disc.
Ive been doing some study on the chassis part fitment of late as its one area i want to work on, but its VERY complicated and confusing.
The Flak fender, along with the ME109 bracket both support the Ford Trans disc, these are then bonded to the chassis front shoulders.

Ill try explain in pics this weekend as i pretty much have all the chassis donors in hand ( a few more arriving this week), just need to figure how ILM cut them!

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Lee, I don't want to jump the gun here, as I'm not part of the armature group. If some of the other guys haven't got all their kits yet and the group isn't ready to divulge the details yet, I'm quite happy to wait. I don't want to tread on any toes.

Cheers, JT

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

JT, nah bud its cool, as we go the kit info can be either shared or ID'd from what we show (i think this is how a certain GK will be re booted i hear :lol), most parts i guess we can reveal now will be maybe more staple fodder?
One thing i cant do is speak for members of the group that are making amazing finds (sadly there are maybe only two of us) and post there found info, but id say all in good time!
Im actually glad your taking it upon yourself to build this little beast, as for the other guys in the armature run, i have no clue who's who and finding parts is there problem TBH!

Re: ESB AT-ST scratch!

Thanks Greg, yeah i wanted to take a few in B&W while its a WIP, just looked funky :lol
Looking forward to seeing your progress soon bud, i think its going to be very nice to see alongside Allan and Jason's builds!

Well just got a hold of my BF 109 this AM, so im set for some chassis dry fit/build action hopefully this weekend, just sitting waiting for so many kits to arrive right now lol...this thing is a wallet buster for such a little prop.
