Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

Except he tells him to "Let go your conscious self..." Kinda the opposite of Luke willing it so. :)
Your "unconscious" self is still "yourself*, thus the force "obeys your commands".
I see a distinct difference between the "controls your actions" (blocking blaster bolts, hitting the exhaust port, allowing Luke to jump free of the carbon freeze, etc) and "willing" everything that happens to the characters. As I said it's lazy writing, it started with the prequels and has been magnified with the sequels.
I'm well aware that paradoxical philosophies exsist in real world religions, that doesn't mean it's logical. ;) (y)
Edit: just because I don't like the sequels doesn't mean I'm not interested in SW.

It's more of a Zen thing. When you're attuned to the energy of the Force you influence it and it influences you. To say it completely controls the characters actions robs them of agency in their own story and you might as well be watching a puppet show using human beings as the puppets. Maybe some people like that kind of thing but I find it to be poor exposition.

I just enjoy the exchange of ideas. If I didn't care about Star Wars I wouldn't even participate in the discussion and when you have a fan base that is this passionate there are bound to be conflicts in the interpretation of the material.

I swear this song was written for Star Wars fans......

I must refrain myself from listening, even looking at the score when it comes out! When TLJ came out I couldn't resist.....and Yoda returning was spoiled.

Well, you know, they gotta pick up the baton of botching spoilers they started with E1 and putting the soundtrack out a month+ early with the track 'death of qui-gonn'...

Yeah, I liked this concept the first time I saw it when it was called a Cobra Crimson Guard:

Basically, slap a coat of gloss red Krylon spray paint on a Duck Tales Trooper and you get a “SITH TROOPER!!!”

Please...

I see a bright future as an action figure peg warmer for this guy. Enjoy your time hanging with “Rancor Keeper” my friend.

I'm curious to what the over/under for screen time is for this guy...30 seconds? A big deal was made of the executioner troopers in TLJ who got next to no time. The tank trooper or whatever in R1 that got 5 seconds or so in passing, etc...

Yeah the role of this new trooper is minor at best. Just typical breadcrumbs to keep fans talking until the movie release. Which is fine. You have to keep promotion going somehow without revealing plot spoilers so just give the fans a taste.

Well these are stillmild compared to Empire when the novelization was released months before the movie.

I have always understood it as the force helps you do what you are trying to accomplish rather than makes you do what otherwise you would not have attempted. It assisted Luke in successfully deflecting the training remote’s blasts, it did not “force” him to ignite his saber and deflect the bolt without his conscious will.

Your actions are always your own. If you are attuned to using the force, it can assist you in accomplishing them. Either good or bad, dark or light, the actions of the user are solely their own. Blaming (or giving credit to) the force for someone’s actions is tantamount to blaming the lightsaber (or the gun in real-world terms) for the murder of younglings rather than the one who wields it

I think that is an apt analogy.

I think to make the characters actions solely the will of the Force robs them of any sense of personal responsibility and makes the consequences of their actions meaningless because they are being controlled wholesale by something we can't see or understand outside the context of the film. Or it it just that the writing is bad??????

You decide. lol

I'm just glad they got this guy to sort the story out

Yeah his writing credits leave much to be desired but then again Abrams isn't known for his incredible writing either. He's a decent director, but not so much in the writing department. Argo was so overrated and definitely not worthy of an Oscar. Competent at best, but not memorable at all. It's like they tried to convince everyone it was a great film with its win.

I still like TFA very much. When it was on Starz and now on TNT/TBS, and flipping through the stations, I was alway hooked and watched it over and over. I feel it flows very well and I enjoy the dialog and banter throughout the movie.

I have not watched TLJ very much... maybe 4 times. I will say that the more I watch it, the more I can find things to like. I won’t say I hate it, but it is the least favorite Star Wars movie.

I am very excited for the new movie. Looking forward to the new trailer. There really is no reason it can’t be a great movie. I feel most of the cynical views are not based on any real information but simply their own hopes of that it will fail for their own selfish reasons. Not sure how they can call themselves Star Wars fans. After all, fan is short for fanatic.

Umm... They wrote the script after principal photography? That would explain a lot

(Yes, I know it's just for reshoots, etc.)
That simply means the film is currently in post-production. You can see that same description on actors pages too.

Being a fan doesn't mean you have to like everything they release. I hope people love the new film. It's just not the story for me. That's all. I feel that some fans are willing to excuse certain aspects of the story because it has the name attached rather than being willing to acknowledge inherent flaws in the script. Though I wouldn't question someone's fandom regardless of their tastes on the new films. We wouldn't be participating in the discussion if we didn't care about the films.

I think ATOC is a pretty poor film. Still love it though. Why? Cause it's Star Wars!:p
