Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

They actually had the balls to call it the "early bird package", when it was about four months late

It was early bird as in buy/reserve yours before they're released, not before the movie is out.

There was a 0.0% chance (i don't think you can go negative) that there'd be merchandise for the original SW even the day of release. It wasn't released wide week 1, no one in power thought it'd do much, and there weren't many (if any) toys based on movies at that time. SW essentially ushered all that in.

The A New Hope novelization was the only thing released prior to the film as far as I know and it sold out everywhere. At least according to the Empire of Dreams documentary.

I liked it when I read it in junior high, but upon rereading sections as an adult ( though I use them term loosely lol) it was atrociously written.

Yea as a kid it was good to see some expansion or deleted scenes reinstated but god...it just shows how trashily the concept could have been executed by someone else so I guess that’s big props to Lucas (and co). It really feels like it was written by someone who had the script but didn’t quite get what the film was about.
ADF’s Alien adaptations were pretty bad too.

As a 9 year old in 1977 I loved it. The book helped flesh out the in-universe details - how hyperspace worked, were droids intelligent, did blasters have unlimited ammo, how did moisture farming work, and generally just more info about everything, stormtroopers, jawas, etc etc. Just a lot of little things a 9-year old fan loved.

In 2019? Well...I put it with all the other ADF novelizations from the 70s-80s. The polite term is "a product of its time".

Wasn't 'Star Wars' the first film to get toys released before the film?

While Jaitea mentioned the release issue for the first film, we did get the option to get Boba Fett before Empire came out thanks to a mail away campaign of your UPC symbols.

At the time I remember it being a big deal that he was going to be in the "new" film. That was probably one of the first toy spoilers for a new movie (at least that I can remember). No one back then complained of it ruining their movie experience, if anything, it had all of us kids foaming at the mouth waiting to see the next movie

Although you are correct that Fett was indeed a sneak peak figure (mail away offered with second line of A New Hope figures), the first line of The Empire Strikes Back figures were released before the film as well as Return of the Jedi.

Fett was introduced as a character in 1978 in the cartoon section of the Holiday Special,....(interesting to see his rifle is now featuring in 'The Mandalorian TV Series)

It was because he appeared in the Holiday special first. It wasn't a spoiler because his existence was already known. That, and in 79/80 all you knew was there is a new character that looked like that. Even if you didn't see the special all you knew is a guy like that existed - whether he had 2 seconds of 15 minutes of screen time, good guy or not, was unknown.

JJ Abrams presents: Star Wars Episode IX: Return of the Apprentice

It starts with Kylo Ren arriving on an even bigger ice planet, dubbed Starkiller Base 2.0. He tells the commander there to hasten the construction of the superweapon, which at that point was 70% completed; Snoke's not happy with the lack of progress.

Cut to Jakku, where after the events of Episode VIII, Poe is encased in suspended animation in a mirror-like cabinet and kept in the mansion of Unkar Plutt, where his minions party. Threepio and BB8 arrive, apparently as gifts from Rey, to Unkar Plutt, to bury the hatchet. Next, Finn arrives in a bounty hunter disguise, who then frees Poe from his mirror-prison. Unkar Plutt catches them while they're kissing (to appeal to Finn/Poe supporters) and makes Finn a slave boy. Rey arrives, tries to rescue her friends and is captured. They get sentenced to death in the bowels of the Mother of all Rathtars, so big that it resides inside the desert. Rey saves the day, kills Unkar Plutt and all of them escape Jakku.

As Finn, Poe and gang return to the Resistance fleet, Rey visits Luke, who's dying. Before he dies, he reveals that Kylo is Rey's brother (despite them making out in Episode VIII - this to appeal to GoT fans) and that to be a Jedi, she has to confront Kylo one last time. Luke dies and disappears into thin air.

Snoke arrives at Starkiller Base 2.0 happy with the progress.

Once Rey reunites with her friends, the Resistance reveals a plan to attack Starkiller Base 2.0. First, they have to disable the shield surrounding the planet, which is located on an orbiting forest moon, let's call it Hodor (again to appeal to GoT fans). The gang arrives in Hodor, stumbles into a tribe of half cat/half Pikachu-like (to appeal to icanhazcheeseburgers and Pokemon fans) cuddly creatures.

The finale takes place in three battles, the battle on Hodor to disable the shield led by Finn, the space battle to destroy Starkiller Base 2.0 led by Poe and the lightsaber battle between Kylo and Rey before Snoke.

Rey is overpowered by Snoke, and Kylo, in a moment of enlightenment, lifts Snoke and throws him over into, ummm, the fireplace. Rey takes off Kylo's helmet, they kiss passionately (GoT fans go "hooray!") and Kylo dies. Rey leaves the base, it gets destroyed, and the Resistance and their cat/Pikachu allies celebrate, while the Force ghosts of Luke, Kylo and Han (Huh? What?) look on.

Oh, and Chewie finally gets a medal. For staying alive.
so how did you get the script?
