Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

I think it would sell the idea that it's up to Rey if Luke stayed dead. Like Ben Kenobi to Luke in Jedi. He's there to impart wisdom or exposition to the protagonist.

Having characters come back constantly undercuts the dramatic tension of their death if they do it all the time. Just like anything that's overdone it loses its appeal. Used sparingly it has great punch.

I tend to wonder, hearing the EP's voice, if they're harkening back to the original idea george had when it was 12 parts. That being Luke wasn't going to be strong enough to take down EP and obi wan was going to cross back over to help with the fight. I don't recall hearing what happened AFTER the fight, but presumably he went back..don't know. That all pre-supposes that the EP laugh was legit and not a total load of BS.

I do tend to think after the blowback from 8 they're going to throw the original fans a bone here. Han is dead dead, Carrie Fisher is gone, so the only 'bone' left is Luke. Maybe he doesn't come back to the living, but i think he's going to do something they expect the old school fans to really like.

Then again, they've blown it in that regard from the get-go. Never put the three in a single scene, barely had 2 in a single scene (not counting chewy), etc.

I don't know why people keep saying thats Palpatine's voice in the teaser. Its Darth Sidious'. Palpatine was the politician, Sidious was the Sith lord who learned the Sith ability to conquer death. It makes perfect sense that he would find some way to come back and influence the events of this trilogy.

He'll always be palpatine because he was "Emperor Palpatine" from 1983 on. He wasn't officially emperor in ROTS either, so the the first screen reference of him was originally ROTJ where it was just 'the emperor' and it was LFL who said Emperor Palpatine IIRC.

Short of ancilliary material, he was never referred to as Sidious outside of the prequels while being Emperor.

The Vader comic has already kinda sorta made it canon that Palpatine is Anakin's "father. Not in the physical sense, but it would seem that he was the one that influenced midi-chlorians to create Anakin.

Well that might be "canon" at the moment, I have no idea. Since LFL spent many years telling people which parts of the EU were officially part of the story then dumped it as "legends" I don't take any of their now "official" explanations seriously. Especially since they've decided on lazy writing tools like the inter dimensional time temple or whatever that stuff from the cartoon is. I bet that's where Palpatine has been hanging out all this time!;)

Are you talking about the World Between Worlds? According to Dave, that came out of something that George and he talked about.

You have to remember that the EU was "canon" but not canon if that makes sense. That's why they had the canon hierarchy. -
  • G-canon was George Lucas Canon; the six Episodes and any statements by George Lucas (including unpublished production notes from him or his production department that are never seen by the public). Elements originating with Lucas in the movie novelizations, reference books, and other sources were also G-canon, though anything created by the authors of those sources was C-canon. When the films were changed, the newest editions were deemed to take canonical precedence over older ones, as they corrected mistakes, improved consistency between the two trilogies, and expressed Lucas's current vision of the Star Wars universe most closely. The deleted scenes included on the DVDs were also considered G-canon (when they didn't conflict with the movie).[3]
  • C-canon was Continuity Canon, consisting of all recent works (and many older works) released under the name of Star Wars: books, comics, games, cartoons, non-theatrical films, and more. Games were a special case, as generally only the stories were C-canon, while things like stats and gameplay may not have been;[9] they also offered non-canonical options to the player, such as choosing female gender for a canonically male character. C-canon elements have appeared in the movies, making them G-canon; examples include the name "Coruscant," swoop bikes, Quinlan Vos, Aayla Secura, YT-2400 freighters and Action VI transports.
  • S-canon was Secondary Canon; the materials were available to be used or ignored as needed by authors. This included mostly older works, such as much of the original Marvel Star Wars comics, that predated a consistent effort to maintain continuity; it also contained certain elements of a few otherwise N-canon stories, and other things that "may not fit just right." Many formerly S-canon elements were elevated to C-canon through their inclusion in more recent works by continuity-minded authors, while many other older works (such as The Han Solo Adventures) were accounted for in continuity from the start despite their age, and thus were always C-canon.
  • N was Non-Canon

Couldn't agree more about R2 Halliwax The biggest crime of the ST is the under use of legacy characters.
Everybody loves R2. Do like the trailer though.

I don't think Palpatine is actually in it, the laugh sounds like an old existing clip to me...I do like the idea but not getting my hopes up. Ian is fantastic.

Good luck everybody. This had better be good.

I'ld place my bet in the reappearance of Palpatine being just some kind of holotape or something. Bringing him back to life, force ghosts parties, occult dark side breeding, clone resurections and the like is ok for comics and novels but a bit too much for the movies. I for one would walk out the theater if I saw Luke fighting him as force ghosts, let alone having Anakin too or something like that. I wouldn't mind Rey going on a pilgrimage to the remnants of the Death Star and meeting Palp's or Vader's spirit there, something along those lines, but that's where I draw the line... I wouldn't rule out Ian Mcdiarmid having shot some scenes or voice-overs, maybe that's what it is, Rey or Kylo getting to talk to him...

Sorry if this has been brought up already...

There has been a comparison made about the ship seen in the teaser to the one leaving Rey in TFA.

Back when TFA was released, people found similarities in that ship to the one Luke and Mara Jade had in the comics.

And then of course the speculation has been that Keri Russel’s character could be Mara Jade.

I know as a Mara Jade fan, I am probably setting myself up for disappointment.

This is what I was thinking the second I read the movie titled

I’ve read the idea was for Obi wan to physically appear in flesh and blood and help take down Vader. Then Vader has a change of heart and throws paps in the lava (at this time paps thrown room was under the temple in a lava river)

When I saw the rise of Skywalker right away I got a religious feeling.. maybe because Easter is right around the corner idk..

But what if Luke is so powerful and can 100% completely re manifest himself in flesh and blood.. just like our boy J.C.

I for one do not want to see this happen, but it’s the first thought that came into my head

Always glad to see another R2 supporter!!

They can easily win me over with

Knights of Ren
Kylo kills Rey
Luke pulls a Obi ghost on both
Mara Jade/ Ashoka is somehow involved

Cool theories and gives me hope, but the same happened with TLJ. They had so many opportunities to dig deep, but instead they dug derp.

JJ completely blew the chance to ever see our three reunited again (I know that doesn't bother some of you, but for some of us it hurts on a deeper level now that we've lost our princess). I just can't see him not wasting this opportunity either.

If this has been brought up, I apologize, but I haven't seen it discussed...

Based on the titles from the third movies in the past trilogies, I don't think the SKYWALKER in the title refers to a person, but instead the force users going forward.

I had discussed it with a buddy of mine, then saw someone else online thinking the same way. We have Revenge of the SITH, then Return of the JEDI, now Rise of SKYWALKER.

Each one in the past refers to either group of Force weilders, & can be used in either the singular or plural. I think we're going to see the new generation simply referred to as Skywalker.

Anyone else feel this could be the case?

I had a weird thought last night. What if the Skywalker rising was Anakin? What if what happens in this movie his actual fulfillment of the Prophecy to bring balance to the Force?

After all, we always believe the first 6 episodes were the story of Anakin. What if the sequel trilogy is the true finally to his story?

Yup! I saw a youtube I forget which one also mention this. How Skywalker can have a meaning besides identifying someone

You reached the highest level of the force, you now walk above the sky..

Yup! That’s a excellent idea MJF, what if this is the rise of Anakin Skywalker.. I like that too

This guy here, I’m a big fan of and like his thought on the title

That idea ties nicely into mine, which is the idea that "Skywalker" refers to something like the ozyly-esehembo (Cheunh; Galactic Basic: sky-walker). Of course, that's also me hoping for stuff with the World Between Worlds (Palpy was kinda obsessed with it there for a bit), the Unknown Regions and the mysterious danger lurking out there, and where the hell Ezra and Thrawn are. Of course, I'm also more excited for Treason later this year, but...
