Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

The Death Star II was much, much bigger than the first one. Some 500-600 kilometers in diameter versus the ~160km of the original. Those chunks heading toward Endor are kilometers across. And I imagine refined materials in a constructed object react differently to ballistic re-entry than an asteroid or similar body. See also: Endor Holocaust.

To a certain degree I'm on board with the idea that Star Wars is overdone. Though I think if it had been handled better that it could very well have the longevity to go on forever. I mean the OT has remained in the minds of fans for 40 plus years. They're great movies. Though I doubt the new films will be remembered 40 years from now with the same fondness.
Star Wars needs to be genre film making, just set in a galaxy far far away the way Marvel did if it's going to survive.

Like others have said as an example, Ant Man was a heist film, just set in the MCU. That kind of thing.

If the Mandalorian is a western / gangster show set in a galaxy far far away then I'm totally in.

Completely agree. Loads of genre mixes possible. Rogue one was a war movie. Solo was an origin movie in front of a heist movie/revenge flic.

Star Trek:Discovery, although staying only loosely close to the original series, breaks rules, but weaves everything together IMO quite successfully. I do wish that ep9 is going to do the same for SW. I even like the updated Enterprise and bridge. And the hologram gag...

Slept on it, watched a few times, ate some popcorn while reading the comments here...
My first impressions are obvious course correction. "Let the past die" is out the window, older characters, imagery comes in, the biggest surprises or reveals are all related to the old lore (title, Palpie, Death Star). Looks okay to me visually, consider my interest a notch further up from roughly zero. Looks very similar in structure/music to the third TFA trailer which I really liked.
The big thing about Palps, I mean, it's an obvious tease and may be nothing. I remember people were losing their **** when the second TFA trailer came and the line from Luke said "my father has it" using it as proof that Vader is still alive because he didn't say "he had it". That's obviously the point of a teaser. I'm cautiously curious as to how this is going to wrap now. Kinda feels like a direct sequel to TFA based on the imagery and the way it's presented.

I think it’s fine to not like something, or really like something

I don’t judge anyone for their likes. From food to movies to politics. If your a good person your more then welcome to be my friend

I just get tired of seeing everyone argue over and over about the same issues

There will always be pros and cons. And that’s a great part of life, we are all different with different tastes. If we were all the same where’s the fun in that

But the negativity of fighting, I don’t like that

One should be able to like something with out being thought of differently. And this goes further the movie taste

My good friend loves TLJ, I hate it. We both like solo, in the end life is amazing. Just get a long with everyone

Now why hasn’t this thread turn into a burn TLJ thread?!?! Juuuuuuuust kidding ;)

Perfectly said.

Given what Luke says in the trailer it makes me wonder if they'll have him, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Qui-Gon, and Anakin appear to Rey to impart some final wisdom to her before she faces off with Kylo Ren for the last time. This way they could tie in the past eight films in a small way. It would be a great cameo opportunity.

My comment about the Death Star remains was merely an observation but people seemed to lose their minds over it.

So I haven't read through this whole thread.

But there are three things J.J. better not do with this movie, or else I am all done with Star Wars...

1) Kill off Chewie
2) Blow up the Millennium Falcon
3) Make Lando get all pan-freaky with either Chewie OR the Millennium Falcon

After watching the trailer a few times, my only real nit to pick is that I was hoping Rey would actually build her own saber instead of just repair Luke's. Not a big thing... but still. But then again, we have no idea when any of these scenes happen in the movie. So there's still hope she starts out with that one and then sometime during the film "completes" her training by building her own.

I'd be disappointed if she turns out to be a Skywalker by blood. Don't think it would ruin the film for me. I'd just feel it would be a lazy choice. I do, however, think it would be kind of cool and fitting if she chose to take on the Skywalker name. She's just been "Rey." She doesn't know who her family is. The films have been subtly hinting at the notion that she needs to find her own destiny and her own family. So I could imagine her taking the Skywalker name to honor Luke and Leia.

She could...

Another possibility, with Luke being used as the myth to engender hope and resistance to the FO, Kylo could also go public with the fact that he is a Skywalker as well. The rise could be his rise to power/dominance over the galaxy...and it could still end with her taking the name to restore it.

Again, if you watched the panel. They hunt to Rey possibly building another one

During the live stream, Stephen Colbert asked Daisy if Rey makes her own saber. She danced around the question a bit before finally saying the Skywalker saber was fixed. So I wouldn't discount the chance of her making one.

Thanks for the back up ;)

I think I have it figured out. At this point Luke Skywalker is regarded as only a legend and/or myth. People who know of him hold him in the highest regard, like a superhero. So Rey (who has no last name) ends up adopting the name of Skywalker or is referred to as "A" Skywalker.

My backup theory is that she is a Skywalker or a Solo somehow but not the usual "Lukes daughter" manner. Maybe Leia is her mother somehow? Conceived by the force like Shmi Skywalker? Leia is a Skywalker who showed incredible force powers in the last movie.

When we hear Luke say "WE have taught you everything we know. 1000 generations live with you now." What if he was referring to everyone?? Him, Leia, Yoda, Obi-Wan, Anakin...... The possibilities are endless!! We could see 5 force ghosts!! Hell I'd love to see Qui-Gon!!!

I'm super excited.

I like that “adopted Skywalker name” theory!! I honestly think that is the best example of making her a Skywalker! Seriously!!

Also, didn't Luke do flips while training with Yoda?

Crap!!! Your right!! I spent 45 min looking for a gif of Luke flipping backwards in the RoTJ Vader duel, to add to my goofy flip post

I hope it didn’t come off cocky, if you know me in person I’m not cocky at all and very comedic

Always try to make people smile or laugh, going back and re reading I think that post came come off cocky and that wasn’t the point at all

It was suppose to make people laugh

I stand corrected, Jedi flipping since 1980!!
