Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

Oh FFS  Does every friggen' thing in this sage have to connect to everything else? Phasma couldn't just order custom armor through the supply chain?
That one I don't mind so much. It fits the rest of her backstory and personality -- which, again, needed to be seen on the big screen. If so many other things weren't force-connected (small 'f') I doubt it'd bother you nearly as much.

I think the saddest part was watching Gwendolyn in interviews for the TFA promotion, going so far as to cut in and answer another cast member's question at the Celebration panel that year. She clearly was so desperate to have something to talk about because her character was so minor. Which was a shame because from what everyone says, she's actually a great actress. Not that you'd ever know from TFA. In two films she was never even unmasked and apparently Phasma was killed in TLJ so that chance is gone.

She was another tragically underused character. It still blows my mind how Disney totally mishandled the entire franchise thus far.

That is not actually true. Finn is a fully trained Storm Trooper. So I am sure being trained as such since he was young he can be quite lethal. Also if you remember in TFA the Storm Troopers have been trained in some sort of baton battle that can withstand a blow from a lightsaber. So the fact that he can hold his own is not that far of a stretch.

Remember, Kylo was “shot in the guts” by Chewbacca’s bowcaster—a weapon that blew up 2 ducktroopers with one blast, when fired by Han Solo, but only gave the New Dark Lord of The Sith a flesh wound. This wound was enough to give the former pride of the First Order Sanitation Crew enough of an edge to hold his own against him. Plus, years of wielding a broom obviously gave Finn killer transferable lightsaber skills.

Come to think of it...is this why Kylo wears the high-waisted, “old man pants” in TLJ; to cover up the damage from the bowcaster?

You have WATCHED the movies and have seen how effective of a shot the stormtroopers are, right?

Yes, I have. Many times over. I don't know where exactly it was first stated, but I've always held to the I'm-fairly-confident-it's-canon belief BobaFettSlave_1 states below. Any apparent inadequacy is intentional, and a result of direct orders to NOT hit the targets.

To be fair to Stormies the only times we really see them missing or being otherwise inept in ANH and ESB are when they are allowing our heros to escape for the purposes of tracking them, or are not actually allowed to kill them per Vader wanting them alive for his own ends.
I make no supporting claims for ROTJ as I feel that’s the very start of where the veneer began to crack in places

I don't find it surprising in the least when you start to step back and begin looking at Disney not as this wonderful magical company that's made so many great things that have brought so much joy to people over the years, but rather as a giant soulless corporation bordering on becoming a monopoly thats one and only drive is to manipulate people's emotional attachment of something into buying poorly designed product with that brand label slapped on. Tbh I kinda feel like Disney isn't actually all that good at creating something new on their own. I dare say they may never have been in the first place.. The vast majority of their products I feel are simply adaptations or slight alterations of things that already exist, often already within their own catalog.. and at their core are exactly the same film/story just with a different paint job.

EDIT: This is going around and seems pretty relevant to the discussion
Martin Scorsese: I Said Marvel Movies Aren’t Cinema. Let Me Explain

Ultimately it could always be worse guys. Least we haven't quite reached Alien/Predator/Terminator franchise levels of suck just yet..

Couldn't agree with you more on Disney. Once upon a time (pun intended) they were innovators of animation with an occasional well renowned live action film. Granted the stories weren't original (which is true of many classic movies) but they were fantastically done adaptations that retained the themes and messages of the source material. Pinocchio among others comes to mind. Compare it to something like Frozen which I've not seen but apparently from what I've read misses the point of the Hans Christian Anderson story it's based off. Disney produces assembly-line quality media now and have been for some time.

On the Scorsese thing, I can't believe how blown out of proportion his comments have gotten. He said that super hero movies are like theme park rides and with a few exceptions, I think he's spot on. And I say that as a fan of those theme park ride movies.

It’s probably for the best that we got so little of her. In my mind she can be whatever I decide she is and will be an awesome character.

I think of Boba Fett, man he was cool. Tough, ruthless, and mysterious.

Then we got the prequels and found out that he was a clone. And a pretty unimpressive one at that!

So, yeah, let me have my Phasma fantasies. (Not like that you freaks,)

Slight off topic, but while I was massively unimpressed with Frozen, I must admit that the sequel looks amazing.

"It's a snuff film..." I can't disagree.
Potential spoilers.

Notice how he refers to TROS as Plan Nine, that's really what it is. It's made by an inept filmmaker, it features footage of a now dead star, and resurrection is a main plot point. Only I'm afraid Ed's Plan Nine will be the better film.

While I agree with a lot of the points raised in these types of YouTube channels, I can admit many of them are too melodramatic for me in their delivery. The one posted above is prone to be gimmicky. I get the point of having anonymity, but that mask is so stupid.

so these guys use their precious time to compile footage, spend hours combing through articles and cutting up footage, editing, to make the 1,000,000th video saying Star Wars is dead and lacks creativity and originality.

For hits. For their channel. Cuz this click bait is what brings in their audience...

They could do original thoughts or contents... use their time to edit their own movie... bring something new into the world of entertainment...

but no, just whining about no originality - in a Star Wars whining video...

I have to agree here.

Yes, the sequel trilogy creators are making some very questionable creative choices that are not being received the way that they had hoped, (just read this thread, and others); however, These Youtubers who call themselves members of “The Fandom Menace” frequently go way over the top with baseless claims that Disney, essentially, purchased “Star Wars” for $4 billion just so they could consciously execute a plan to dismantle and destroy it, legacy character by legacy character, and enrage the fans. Come on, really? What business sense does that make?

By their logic, I would also like to buy a Ferrari just so that I could drive it over a cliff, I guess?

I very much doubt that Kathleen Kennedy has a wall of photos in her office where she gleefully crosses off one character at a time, as they are destroyed. I doubt she hosts writer’s meetings where she declares “I want Chewbacca dead, Luke humiliated, and the Millenium Falcon destroyed. Focus groups have shown this will cause the most fan backlash, which is what we want—I want this franchise DEAD, you see.”

I completely agree that Disney’s creative decisions are pretty terrible, but INTENTIONALLY destroying something they have paid heavily to invest in?

Is the creative team that is bringing about the sequel trilogy misguided, seemingly without a coherent plan, and off-course?

Definitely.

Are they conspiratorially hell-bent on the destruction of the franchise?

No way.
