Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

What has Anthony Daniels been saying or doing that is so bad? I don't keep up with him on social media. When I met him several years back he seemed like the nicest man in the world.

I’ve heard that he had problems with the actor who did R2D2 and they didn’t get along which is a problem given how frequently they are together.

He also apparently believes he is the only one who can do C-3PO so insists on doing the voice and role of C-3PO when C-3PO makes an appearance in any media. This I’m not sure of though.

And where is the shill media outrage or even coverage over this, absolutely nowhere. The same Dollar Store outlets that to this day still falsely claiming the driving off of social media by Disney SW actors have burrowed deeply back in to the sand. If it wasnt for the alternative voice of "Subversives" on YouTube etc, we wouldnt even know about it.

True. I personally do agree that Star Wars fans go too far and attacking any actor is wrong, the blame should be placed on the director for poor direction.

Fans shouldn’t have attacked Jake for his performance. Shouldn’t have attacked Hayden for his. Or Kelly for hers. And certainly not Anthony for voicing a legitimate criticism. Like it or not, C-3PO is a major legacy character that has been in all 6 films and had a much bigger presence. I would feel miffed myself if a role I’ve played for years is just sidelined and I don’t have any opportunity to show my work.

Pretty sure it wasn’t him in Jedi Outcast.

Kenny Baker said he was constantly rude to him and they couldn’t stand each other, and he flat out refused doing conventions or signings in general when he was proposed (not too surprised at that tbh).
He’s very English though so a lot of the dry sarcastic humour that he has can come off as rude. I remember he was bantering back and forth with Warwick Davies on one of these SW Celebrations and tons of comments were saying how rude he was and I just thought that he’s funny.

I'm from the UK, and yes humour is different between us and the rest of the world at times, but it doesn't explain his past behaviour etc.

I'm not saying he is a bad bloke, but he is known to be extremely rude to work colleagues and fans when it was uncalled for.

Yeah I’m not a fan of Anthony Daniels either but respect the fact that he has huge love for C-3PO. His critique that C-3PO is a side prop in the new trilogy is valid, given that C-3PO and R2 were the observational characters to witness our heroes adventures as well as add some light humor.

The “fans” stating C-3PO should die, etc are ignorant, stupid “deplorables” to quote a presidential candidate. C-3PO isn’t my favorite but his is an important character and to attack him for voicing legitimate critique is deplorable.

Deplorables for having a different opinion on a fictional character.... hyperbole alarm went off loudly there.

It seems, at least in the Phoenix area, fans ARE voting with their wallets. Tickets went on sale what, two weeks ago? The theatre by my house, which has the largest screen in all of AZ and ones from around the entire valley come to because of it, only have 15% of the seats sold in ALL theatres. When Spider-Man FFH came out. I bought my tickets the morning they went on sale. By lunch all theatres were sold out.

Jake was a kid doing his best, so yeah, leave him alone.

Hayden was full grown and should have known better. He had all the charisma and line delivery of an ironing board.

To be fair no one, not even Alec Guinness, could make that dialog sound good.

Voting with my wallet is what I'm doing. I just don't care to support these movies. Not even out of curiosity. I know a lot of people will give it a shot, knowing full well they will most likely hate it, but trying to go in with an open mind. I can understand that, but I just can't anymore.

I reached this point throughout my fandom before. First with the novels. Then with collecting merchandise. I guess this is just the next step for me.

It's crazy to think the movie comes out in just over a month. And I simply don't care. Oh well.

George Lucas has described how with the new digital technology he could film a scene a dozen times, select the best performance from each actor in it and composite those performances into one- the example he used was the dinner scene at Anakin's Hovel in 'The Phantom Menace'.

Yep- pretty much everything we saw on screen was exactly what he wanted to have on the screen.

Too bad there's no script...

I know somebody who will passionately disagree with every word you guys have said...

Lucas turned Ewan, Natalie and Liam into stiff bland cardboard characters...

Hayden didn't stand a chance. I've seen him in a few things, and Anakin is the only role where he seems like he can't act.

It's 100% Lucas on that.

I mean he PICKED Jake Lloyd... That says everything. There had to be 100's of better kids

Watch the kids from Krampus/Chef... Jojo Rabbit... Look at that Jacob Tremblay kid... THOSE are kid actors - and I'm sure there were kids that good back then.

Lucas made a terrible decision by hiring a terrible kid actor..., and now Jake is paying for it with Star Wars fan wrath.

Makes me immediately think about the Henry Thomas audition.

It's definitely a no-win scenario.

One of the things I recognize about long-running fictional universes that many involved in them (creatives or audiences) seem to not is that it is possible to tell new original and engaging stories with characters that evolve and change over time and still have the setting be recognizably what it is... It just gets harder. I personally like the challenge, and I've seen other writers out there who obviously do, too, from how they do it, and well. I've also seen what happens when those in a position to create said new content... *sigh* ...just don't get it. Like the saying goes, the impossible just takes a little longer. And the industry tends to not let its creatives take that needed time. And this is what we get.

I don't think that's what the recent falderal is about though. He apparently mentioned some disappointment with the way C-3PO and other OT characters were handled in the ST. A quick search of twitter posts showed him (and Hamill) getting bashed a bit by fans for offering anything other than glowing praise of the DSW fanfilms. To me it just shows there isn't a toxic "side" of the fandom, just butt-hurt people being keyboard warriors.
