Star Wars: The Rise of Skywalker (Pre-release)

Look at Poe Dameron's scarf. It's clear the makers of this HAVE NO CLUE what they're doing.

In no other movie has Poe worn a scarf. So what are we to assume? A hicky? Hickys in Star Wars? buncha garbage.

I know in TLJ when Rey and Poe introduced themselves this movie was going ot be all about hicky's. I nearly walked out then, thank god there was only like 5 minutes left.

Star Wars is done. This poster proves it.

Don't even get me started on Finn's collar.... Rose hickys. Good god.

Well those character shots in the banner above the poster aren't fake.

Hey Psab keel ! I don't think the image of Keri Russell as Zorii (the gold and purple gal) in the poster is fake either. I can't find that image in a Google search, and I doubt a fan has made a costume yet, or a 3D sculpt for that matter, to pose for this poster.

Hey gedmac66 ! BB-8's little buddy is just the Pixar Lamp on a ball so that it doesn't have to hop around anymore. ;)

Hey sztriki ! Kelly Marie Tran IS listed on the IMBD page as playing Rose Tico on the Episode IX page, for what it's worth.

Hey Kylash ! YAY! I'm not the only one who sees the MPP Clamp!

I'm really surprised that with all the practical make-up artists available these days (think Face-Off), that modern Star Wars movies have so many cheesy 3D characters.

As for the GRAFLEX lightsaber, I loved seeing its return in The Force Awakens, HATED its mistreatment in The Last Jedi (both by Luke giving it the irreverent toss, and the tearing it in half nonsense), and I hope they don't ruin its storyline any further than they already have in Episode IX. I am disappointed in some ways that Rey couldn't magically figure out how to construct her own lightsaber. Especially with all those ancient Jedi books lying about on Ahch-To, if there ever was a place that had a copy of "How to Build a Lightsaber for Dummies!", that was it!

I still haven't bought The Last Jedi, I only saw it once in the theater, and I don't want it in my Star Wars collection because of the lack of respect for the symbol of the Jedi that I grew up cherishing. Sure, Excalibur was tossed into a lake, but for a different reason. But nobody ever dared break Excalibur as a story plot. Way to ruin a legend Rian.

I'm still not sure if I want to see Episode IX for fear of it killing off what's left of my love for Star Wars movies.

Just thinking- how did Luke know how to build his replacement Lightsaber in 'Return of the Jedi'?
He left Yoda with his training unfinished and his only real knowledge of a lightsaber came from using it

I only own the OT, the Clone Wars mini series, and the Thrawn Trilogy novels. Aside from some non fiction Star Wars books, I don't own any other stories whether they be films or books.

In Excalibur, the John Boorman film, Arthur broke Excalibur as a result of his arrogance, but it was mended by the Lady of the Lake. Breaking the graflex just felt unnecessary though. As if TLJ didn't drive the point home enough that the past must die...

Found the relevant info in a book left in Ben's hut on Tatooine.

As of canon today luke found obiwan a journal in his hut. And in his journal obi wan left instructions on how to build a lightsaber

I hope to see Luke do this, and I hope luke gathered other things from his hut, extra obiwan lightsaber parts, and qui gin jinns lightsaber...

He simply did like all collectors and paid through the nose for authentic vintage lightsaber parts on “Galactic Ebay”.

See, Rey wears essentially the SAME outfit on all of her outings.

Baloney.

Are there common elements? Absolutely! but then, that's a time honoured way of helping us to recognize a character. EVERY SW character that has had multiple costumes has some recurring themes in them. Hell, Vader wore the same thing (minus production differences...it was meant to be THE same costume in-world) throughout several films and nobody bemoans that.

While you can see the obvious similarities in #1 and 2, that is because literally #1 IS #2, but with extra desert accessories added, which she takes off early in the film and never replaces. She then wears this outfit till almost the very end of the first film, where she gets a costume change to #3. While she has retained her belt, boots and staff from #1 and #2, EVERYTHING else is completely different. Different fabrics, different silhouette, different accessories, etc. NOT the "same thing every outing"

#4 again hints at #1 and #2 with the return of the wrap dress ("tabbards") and the belt, albeit the belt is proportioned differently and is layered over an Obi...whoich the jedi had. The rest of it again is completely different. Long pants instead of capris, a wrap over (very jedi like) tunic, different hair, tall leather boots (again, referencing a jedi look) NOT the "same every outing".

I mean i get most of the guys won't focus on her wardrobe nearly as much as I, but come on. To say she wears the same thing is laughable.

I agree with you. Look at Luke in ROTJ. Aside from the one brief scene of him in the cockpit of his X-Wing where he's in his flight suit, Luke wears his black outfit the entire film with additions and subtractions of layers throughout the movie.

Vader had the same costume throughout the OT and Han had essentially the same too. I don't think Reys outfits being similar is too big a deal. The other advantage with the Star Wars characters is that if you troop as one of these characters you can have variations by adding or subtracting a layer which gives you variety in your wardrobe without having to own an entirely new outfit.

It's all about the accessories and layers.

I have clothes I’ve had for the last 5 years I still have in rotation. I’m almost always wearing jeans, a pair of tennis shoes, a plain short-sleeve button up or screen tees.

Wear what’s comfortable, right? :)

Recurring themes and making a character easily recognizable for the audience is one thing, especially over the course of three movies. But I personally think that they are overdoing with Rey's outfits. Yes, her costume was slightly different drom ep7 to 8, but she travelled within different environments and essentially wears the same with littlw bits added or removed, extreme climates or not. And when i think of extreme climates we used to get appropriate clothing. Yes, time is a factor, but I am still underwhelmed by what they did with Rey and her character. And I am moreso by what we are shown for Ep9. A change in colour? I am disappointed because it was too foreseeable. If I had to make a prophesy about Reys costume it qould have been "essentially the same, but very likely in white or very dark, depending on the direction of the story.".

Kristen, your picture compilation IMO underlines what I wrote. Show the compilation to anybody off the street and you will get a "she wears essentially (!) the same outfit..."

VADER can wear the same outfit, because he is above all of the other characters, he is the MAIN villain. He is actually superhuman. The look defines Vader, the costume oozes out what Vader was meant to represent. One reason why he is one of the all-time greatest costume designs.

Pointing out the differences and tiny changes in her costume is right on par with people discussing changes in ST and Vader costumes from one episode to another. The general audience won´t notice those changes. Yay, it´s Rey. And yes, not much time has passed between movies, so minute changes in costume can be accepted. But seeing her "reuse" her assumedly cobbled together clothings, basically because she could not afford something different on Jakku, is one thing. Seeing her in completely new clothing that is essentially the old one in new colours makes it hardly believable.

I mean i get most of the guys won't focus on her wardrobe nearly as much as I, but come on. To say she wears the same thing is laughable.

It is my personal focus on costumes that left me a very bored Star Wars fan when I did not get to see her in more than one outfit. I know you love her outfit and the character. So did my bonus daughter, until Episode 8.
Her outfit worked for me on Jakku. It did work during the flight to Starkiller Station. It did not work for me on Starkiller Station. Seeing her in a darker version of her outfit with Luke did not work for me. And seeing her in that white outfit for Episode 9 does not work for me atm because I am pulled out of the SW universe because I ask myself "how the heck does she stay in contact with her tailor on Jakku?!" At least it confirms that she is not Leia´s daughter. Because Leia knew hot to dress for the occasion.

While I get it helps with identification, I don't really think anyone is trying to identify the main character by her outfit.

Looking at the 4 pics above, only the 3rd is different from the others. The others are basically the same thing. I don't mind it, but, you'd think going from Jaaku - barely surviving - and joining up with the resistance that you'd get an upgrade in clothing. And that it'd be, you know, different, as it's not designed for dessert wear. Or that when you go to Ach-To, with it being damp, dank, etc, that you'd wear something again, a bit different for the climate, or some resistance garb since that's where you came from. You should look like you have a private designer catering to your tastes wherever you go.

I'm not saying it bothers me at all - it doesn't - but if you look at it, it doesn't really make sense.
