Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

No one is denying that this movie has a ton of positive buzz and the early reviews have been damn good - the Cinemablend article I posted a link to has plenty of quotes/tweets indicating that. I quoted a few bits that seems to express some of my pre-release apprehension about this film... you can call it cherry picking all you'd like. I'm not out there looking for negative bits about this movie at all.

I'm merely trying to keep my expectations in check.... I've said more than once how I'm looking forward to this and how I expect to enjoy. You can continue to cherry pick my comments... as you graze in your field with the rest of the sheep. I'm in a different part of the field, still buying what they're selling me - but, with at least some rational thought rather than just the mindless "baa, baa" we get from some. ...and trust me, there certainly is a person (or two) here that fits the definition of sheeple.

I am not a hater, I don't read forums or hang out with people 'hating' on it - maybe there are groups like this - but, there is no big herd mentality to try and call me a sheep and the whole "I know you are, but what am I?" argument is weak. I'm an RPFer that has a predisposition to love this movie. I liked the prequels. I'm going to like this - it's just a matter to the extent... I am more part of the same herd as the folks here than anything else.

Compare tomatoes to tomatoes - show me the Rotten Tomatoes reviews of TPM the day prior to its release - not 16 years after it happened.

Darth's quote at 56 seconds in made me choke on my water. Also, it wasn't only fans that praised the film; Roger Ebert gave it 3.5 out of 4 stars, and wrote a mostly glowing review. http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/star-wars-episode-i-the-phantom-menace-1999

I myself don't mind the prequels. It's Star Wars, and I'll take it for what it is.

That being said, I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.
Agreed... although, the early reviews definitely have me less cautious and more giddy with excitement.

I've read several dozen reviews today (I can't concentrate on anything else!!!) and they're incredibly uniform. To a person the critics all say the movie is great, if you can forgive it for being a little too heavy handed with callbacks. So yes, TPM had some positive early buzz, but I remember plenty of early grumblings as well. Newsweek, which I read at the time, ran a scathing review, for instance. The fact that the TFA reviews all say pretty much the same thing tells me that I can probably relax and trust that I'll enjoy this flick. I don't need it to be the best thing that every happened in my life. I just need it to not stink :D

Rogue one will be like snacking in between meals , it's nice but not the main meal

It will get weird as its a new thing to us all re the spin offs, how will we argue about them I wonder !!!!

Be careful watching reviews on youtube, guys (and gals).
The comments sections are riddled with trolls trying to spoil the movie.

Ah the classic sheep metaphor. The last bastion of those whose argument is thin yet their snootiness is unflappable.

I love how the trolls on some of these sites protect themselves with blanket statements like "It will be terrible, and any positive reviews are from __________

1. Sheep.
2. Disney Plants
3. Disney Kiss-ups
4. Salivating fan boys who'll watch anything with a lightsaber

Just watch 10 years from now when everyone admits it's trash"

"Hey I saw it and it's good!"

"DISNEY SHILL!!!!"

Friggin annoying.

The most consistent gripe I'm hearing from the few middling reviews there are is that it borrows too heavily from ANH. Even if true, I personally think there's a lot worse things this movie could do and frankly can't blame LFL for wanting to play it a little safe, considering the importance of this movie and how it is the springboard for the new trilogy. If anything, it makes me more excited to see what Rian Johnson comes up with because I'm guessing things will move beyond any "comfort zone" TFA offers. Lawrence Kasdan even mentioned Johnson has some "weird" stuff in the pipeline.

Ah, the classic we'll try to deflect the truth by trying to be clever. There's a reason the term came to be and there's a reason I used it. I'm a Star Wars sheep - most of us here are - just some of us are at the head of the flock.

A couple of spoiler free reviews that help put my mind at ease:

Re: Star Wars: The Force Awakens

When we killed Bin Laden did terrorism end?

Gaddafi dead, Libya safer?

Saddam dead, Iraq safer?

There are countless real world examples where killing a leader and destroying their most powerful weapons do not end a war.

I think it's more like we nuked Japan and fire bombed the hell out of Nazi Germany.
Done and done. That wasn't comin' back.
