Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Yeah, I think my cautious optimism has officially evolved into unmitigated optimism! Lol! The vast majority are saying this one is incredible, some even saying it's the best SW ever. It'll take a lot to knock TESB off its perch for me, but time will tell.

Yeah, I've been accused of being a cheerleader fanboy for this film by some in this thread but it wasn't coming from hope, as this story developed and I spoiled myself rotten, I could intellectually see they had a gem in the making.

I've been trying to play it cool, but with these good reviews, my excitement is starting to go through the roof. Is this really happening?

I'll let you guys know in about 9 hours. :)

A lot of reviews commenting on how it rehashes a lot, but nobody seems to care. Cool :) Hopefully this one orients us in familiar happy territory, then EPVIII gets daring. So psyched to see the rave reviews.

Some people can't be pleased no matter what.

I am not one of those people! What's old is new and what's new is old! Bring on this Star Wars franchise that won't be focused on galactic politics or silly alien side kicks.

It had to play to nostalgia to re-launch the franchise after the PT disappointed so many. The only way they can have the opportunity make fresh stories if this one flies.

Came across my first negative post about TFA (from Australia - the guy went so far as to say he was trying to get a refund for his ticket for another showing), which more or less seems confirm some worries I have. At this point, I don't think there's much that can ruin this for me. In fact, I think a comment like this might actually help (as it will help keep my expectations in check a bit). I'm sure there will be plenty of sheep-like comments refuting this (and any other potential negative comments).

Read a snippet of another review calling the film fun, familiar and uneven. Everything else has been overwhelmingly positive (which, in its own way has me worried, too).

It's going to be very difficult to keep emotions in check about this movie - I'm expecting to love it despite any lesser elements it might have. I don't think there's any fair way to judge it immediately...

Some might consider the following spoilers - but, it wasn't very specific.

Very very disappointed... Sure - it looked good in parts... but the story... WHAT STORY...???!!!! OH - HOW CAN WE JUST COPY A NEW HOPE...???I'm certain now that all those 'good' twitter reviews... that's an example of actors sucking up to the the REAL Dark Lord...

Devin Faraci's tweet sums up what I worried about most... and pretty much what I expect from JJ based on what I've seen of him in the past. I don't want JJ to do to Star Wars what he did to Star Trek. I started to read Devin's full review, but it got a little too spoilery for me.

Still, I'm not going to ignore the overwhelmingly positive reviews - I'm hopeful as all heck for this and counting the hours until tomorrow at 7:00.

But, the again in 1999, we got these reactions: "Lives up to the originals..." "Worth every minute of it..."

Great vid ... makes you realize how long ago 1999 really was! That one guy at the end sounds like a member here, haha. Crazy to think it's been nearly as long now since Episode 1 came out as it had been since Jedi, when Episode 1 came out!

Well I'm glad we have old Phantom Menace reviews around... everyone knows what happened... no one wants to be caught spewing hyperbole about this flick only to come out of the daze of hype and say "oh crap... that was actually pretty bad when the excitement wore off"

People are questioning their initial thoughts more...

So as the reviews come in, know a LOT of those people are really looking over what they said before posting, knowing it will be online forever, and they will be held to those thoughts when the hype wears off.

And of course there's always going to be people who flat out hate it. To quote Redletter Media... Some people don't like The Empire Strikes Back because "it's the most boringest".

Cherry picking the the rare negative review sounds pretty petty and sheep like to me. How about a real intellectual fact based opinions taken in there totality as being a better metric. Have fun hanging your "informed" opinion on that unless you are just desperately trying to validate your feelings.

And comparing this to Ep. 1, which has a 55% on Rotten Tomatoes is apples to tomatoes.

Darth's quote at 56 seconds in made me choke on my water. Also, it wasn't only fans that praised the film; Roger Ebert gave it 3.5 out of 4 stars, and wrote a mostly glowing review. http://www.rogerebert.com/reviews/star-wars-episode-i-the-phantom-menace-1999

I myself don't mind the prequels. It's Star Wars, and I'll take it for what it is.

That being said, I'm cautiously optimistic about this one.
