Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

To me, this movie is a reboot, not a continuing of the Saga. Passing the torch is good, but, I have a bad feeling about this movie. WE DO NEED JAR JAR TO MAKE IT A HIT!

As for PT, it is my favorite of the prequels, except for that damned race.

Comments like the one below is why I can't stand a percentage of the fandom, if it looks too much like the original trilogy it's called pandering and fan service and nothing original or new. If they change too many things and introduce new things, use newer effects techniques it's not enough like the originals. (Some seem to want it filmed exactly as it would have been in the early 80s with only 80s techniques!) This kind of stuff makes me want me to pull out my hair sometimes. They will always be damned if they do and damned if they don't by some people. We've got to accept there will always be a percentage not happy, NO MATTER WHAT. Whatever they do, whoever they get to direct, there will be an unhappy percentage.

Amen! In the internet age you're always going to have a group of "critics" that will never be satisfied, but at the end of the day it doesn't really matter what they think.

I love how everyone hates Jar Jar ( me included ) yet no one seems to forget him. Must have had some impression on ppl. Deep down everyone Loves Da Binks. [emoji14]

I know I always liked Jar Jar but I have always been a huge fan of Zui Quan . I always thought if it was not such a kid friendly movie and Jar Jar was carrying around a gourd and always drinking he would have been better received

GL light saber battles were always more like fighting with broadswords and the prequel's were more like rapier or shorter sword style fighting . at least that is the way it seemed to me even though the length of saber did not change . I put it down to more fast paced action to keep in step with what they think audience's expect

plus there are different styles in the order as well

Let me clarify, since there seems to be some confusion regarding my intent. I was making a comment on the attitudes of some fans. You know, like the conceit that if they're using real sets vs blue/green screens, it's automatically going to be better. Or that the original cast returning guarantees a great film (Ghostbusters 2, anyone?). I just think that anyone going in expecting it to be exactly the same as the OT is going to have a poor movie going experience. If it's a good movie in and of itself, I'm happy. The fact that it's also Star Wars is just icing on the cake. From what I've seen so far, it doesn't look like it's going to be a bad movie. It's just not exactly the same as the OT. And hopefully, not the PT (Though no, I don't completely hate those either. They have some aspects that make them a bit more than irredeemable).

I just saw a HP printer commercial I believe Biggs was in it?! anyone else see it?

Anything will be better than the PT.

There's more acting ability in this one shot below than any moment in the PT that I can remember.

There were actors in the PT that could have achieved this, but GL would have left it out in the editing process.

I'll disagree - strongly. I feel there's plenty of acting ability in the PT - if folks opt to put away their auto-disdain for half a sec.

Just a few quick pics that I think demonstrate that a simple image says a whole lot. Even in the prequels (as a courtesy, I've put these in spoiler tags)...

Even Jake has a moment or two...

I feel Hayden is particularly strong in this one, he seems to go from cocky and arrogant to hopeless. Of course, John Williams score helps out a ton, too.

For me, McDiarmid's performance was just about the only notable bit of acting in the PT. Liam Neeson, Ewan McGregor and Christopher Lee were all serviceable but nothing stellar. The rest were pretty subpar. Unless there's some sort of sing-along sequence, or some incredibly off the wall twist/plot point (Threepio is Snoke!), I don't see how the TFA can be any worse than any of the PT movies. Hope I don't eat those words!

Very pleased to hear this, from the pages of Empire magazine. Less dancing with tennis rackets - more tough looking combat is deffinitely the order of the day...

'For Abrams the lightsaber battles in Episode 1 to 3 were “increasingly spectacular and stylised, almost like dance choreography”. So when he came to stage runaway stormtrooper Finn versus baddie Kylo Ren in a snowy forest, he went back to the source.'

'When you look at Star Wars and Empire, they are very different lightsaber battles, but for me they felt more powerful because they were not quite as slick. I was hoping to go for something much more primitive, aggressive and rougher, a throwback to the kind of heart-stopping lightsaber fights I remembered being so enthralled by as a kid.'

I am thrilled to hear this!

One still shot of Rey is not better than all the acting in the PT. Good lord, you'd think the PT had pissed on some people's kittens.

But I don't like cats. ;)

OK, I will admit McDirmand did good in ROTS. He was chewing on the scenery 3/4 of the way though the film, but at least it was something

The prequels might have passable elements here and there, but if I can stomach the idea of watching TFA again - if it doesn't set me off watching its sequels, trying to erase it from my memory of the saga - it's better than the prequels. They're truly bad, and it starts with the unsalvageable writing. Luckily, they contradict the OT's discussion of the past at every turn so it's easy to disregard them as unfortunate fan fiction.

You have to admit that it makes perfect sense that the kid who talked of Toshi station and power converters came from anakin and padma.

Questionable acting also runs through the family
