Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

But I don't like cats. ;)

OK, I will admit McDirmand did good in ROTS. He was chewing on the scenery 3/4 of the way though the film, but at least it was something

Haha I'm not saying the PT is particularly good. But it's not ENTIRELY devoid of good acting moments. Neeson and McGregor and often Ian McD (though I agree he goes full Bryan Cranston in ROTS). Yeah there's tons of bad PT acting, and I can't believe I'm defending it, but I mean, it had MOMENTS...

There's one thing that many of you seem to be forgetting. Much of the time, actor are hired to give the performance the Director wants; some Directors allow actors some leeway, others do not. You can point fingers at Neeson, McGregor, McDiarmid, Portman, Christensen, and so on, but ultimately they gave the performances that George Lucas wanted.

You'll never find a more wretched hive of facepalmers and eye rollers.

Hayden was great when he wasn't bogged down by the dialogue.

And Ewan was awesome

IMO had GL not tried to make it quite so family friendly and focused on giving Hayden more time to become evil so to speak or (again just my opinion) give him time as Darth Vadar I think he would have done a great job. Yes, a lot of his dialogue was blah, but that happens when you make him sit with another actor that doesn't want to be there (Padme) and force feed lines like a 14 year old reading from a diary about their long lost love obsession. Had they picked him for the first movie, his age would have been more in line with Luke's when he started training. Yoda would have objected giving connections to PT and OT in that regard. The second film could have been the Clone Wars. Hayden could have been a Jedi leader with Obi Wan and in secret already been or in the process of turning to the dark side and becoming Darth Vadar. 3rd film could have been Vadar being exposed and both Palpatine and Vadar hunting the Jedi etc.

Long explanation longer, Hayden, given time as a Sith Lord would have been a lot better in my opinion. And Ewan, was excellent regardless. Great choice.
