Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

A Force vision you have had, perhaps... ;)

Lol! Maybe! It's just a vibe I get. Finn has been around, seen things and has story possibilities on tap but if Rey doesn't become a Jedi, I have a hard time seeing what role she would play in the new trilogy. A lot of the media and art also usually seems to depict her as the central character, which I found kinda odd since Finn is often depicted wielding the lightsaber. One would typically assume whomever wields the lightsaber would be who the emphasis is on, but the art and a bit of logical supposition paints a potentially different picture. From the trailers and such, I think we're supposed to think he will be going down the path of the Jedi but I think we'll get the ol' switcheroo at some point. I actually wouldn't be completely shocked if Finn didn't survive the movie. I *think* he probably will but it wouldn't totally shock me if he didn't.

I think we see a few things in the trailer worth noting about Finn. In the clip where he is confronting Kylo he looks very concerned and out of his element. And in the clip where he confronts the ST with the electro staff, he has a similar demeanor. Something I haven't heard anyone notice is in a more recent clip, we see Han shooting the same ST with the staff raised above his head in what looks like he is going to deliver a killing blow in someone on the ground. I think that's Finn on the ground and he has been bested even though he had the saber. And his dialogue all points to someone not in control of he world around him while Rey projects a sense of confidence.

Yeah, true. Is that the brief shot in one of the latest spots where the trooper goes flying backwards? I get the impression he is merely in possession of the saber and is just using it because perhaps it's all he has to defend himself with at the moment. I def don't get the feeling he quite knows what he's doing. How could he? He's pretty much like how any of us would be if given a lightsaber in a similar situation. Of course most of the promotional stuff- posters, cardboard standees, etc.- show him not only wielding the saber but doing so in a confident, controlled way. However, I'm not so sure that's totally indicative of what's really going on.

Yeah, when the trooper does a back flip. It's the same guy Finn is fighting with it seems.

Ah, okay. I remember seeing that and thinking it looked a bit odd but didn't make the connection Han had shot him (quite forcefully, apparently!)...

If you guys are looking into things, think about this:

The entire look of this film is directly inspired by Ralph McQuarries original designs in 1976

In the original 1975 script (in which McQuarrie did a lot of sketches), Luke was a girl. I can't GUARANTEE you that Abrams is going back to that script and designs to make this movie kind of what it would've been like in 1975-76. Rey will be the central character and become a Jedi, not Finn. I think Finn will die in this one.

There was also no Han Solo in the early drafts, and Luke Starkiller piloted the Millennium Falcon himself (iirc).
I think that's what we're getting with Rey - the total package. At least I really, really hope so.
Rey with a blaster and a lightsaber on her belt, hot rodding around the galaxy in the Falcon, with Chewy and BB8 at her side, fighting the bad guys.
That's who I wanted to be as a kid.

Ooooh! That would be sweet. If Han dies and Chewy becomes her "family" and she is now the cross between Luke and Han.

Now you are talking! :) Think about this, you introduce a young black actor in the first film if a trilogy, have him do a ton of press with your other young female lead, and then kill him off?

Interesting thought! A swashbuckling Jedi, far removed from the stuffy Jedi of old. I really like that.

I too have wondered if the old "female Luke" concept was the genesis of Rey.

Yeah, that is certainly an aspect that would make me lean against the idea that Finn would die.

To me that's what kanan should be. Someone who was trained in the force as a child, but no training past that. So he has no jedi code whatsoever. He's not a jedi, but he can use the force...like ventress or even luke
