What Neo said above. Plus, I am always willing to accept the possibility that I may be pleasantly surprised. The 3D conversion of TPM was subtle and actually enhanced the experience for me. I found after seeing that that I actually wanted to see the rest of the films in 3D. I also loved what Tron: Legacy did with 3D, where it was used to show the transition to the digital world (and back). I do not like gimmicky "IN THREE-DEEEE!!!" movies that use it to "throw things at the audience". That just makes me roll my eyes.

But about a week in, I'm planning to go see it in 2D at Cinerama, family tradition going back to May of 1977.

High Frame Rate (HFR) 3D is a lifetime better than other 3D. Saw The Hobbit movie in HFR 3D and everything on the screen was crystal clear. Non of the fuzzyness when looking at something that wasn't in the center of the frame.

Personally, my wife and I only see movies in 3D if we don't have any choice, ie we're there at the theater and there's either no 2D showings available for the rest of the day/night or there's no 2D showing for hours. In other words, I'll watch a movie in 3D but if given a choice I rather see it in 2D. It's not because I hate movies in 3D or anything like that, I just feel that they're seldom worth the extra cost, with most movies in 3D the most 3D looking things are the credits (opening and closing) and any particle effect like snow, ash, and rain. I remember watching the first Hobbit movie in 3D and occasionally lifting the glasses to see if I can see any difference and aside from maybe a slight blurriness, there was no discernible difference.

I believe there was only 1 sequence that was shot in IMAX, and none of it was shot in 3D. The 3D is 100% converted.

I'm sure they will. ALL the digital tickets were sold out here in town. All that was left were for the 3D shows - that what I got. I'm happy either way.

I pick and choose 3D. For Gravity I was all in for 3D. Same with The Hobbit. But for just an action film or even a Marvel film I'm not as interested. I have TFA IMAX 3D tickets as I have zero doubt the up conversion will be of the highest quality and I enjoyed TPM in 3D. If you think Disney and LucsFilm are going to allow for a shody 3D release you have another thing coming. LucasFilm has been working in 3D for years now and know how to do it.

I'm only going to 3D because that's the only apparent option to see it in IMAX (even if it isn't real IMAX).

But mostly they are people who like to watch movies in 3D. Not Losers.

Agreed. 3D simply adds one more emotional / physical element to the overall experience. I say enjoy it! As far as disposable income... it was the only tickets they had left of opening day!

Boy, I hope the IMAX sequence(s) are the same aspect ratio as the rest of the movie when released on blu-ray. It was extremely distracting on the Nolan Batman movie releases going back and forth between aspects.
