Given that the D & L legal teams are now starting to take serious action against websites and individuals who release unauthorized material I can't say I'm really surprised. The toy trade has already had previews of whats to come out and absolutely nobody is saying anything at all. And I doubt anyone working on the film will seriously risk their contracts and the threat of heavy fines, simply because they are working on the next and then theres the next and the next etc. That kind of steady regular employment used to be rare to find in the industry, though its more common place after the Harry Potter films. So if somebody gets caught out it would seriously ruin their prospects of ever working again given the other franchises Disney and Lucasfilm own, and not many other studios are likely to trust them. We might get lucky with the odd bit here and there from the none essential staffers, but ,and I'll say it again, I'd guess nearly everybody working on this wants to be with the same team over successive pictures and having the SW production credentials on your CV is a great big bonus to further your future prospects.
We were exceptionally lucky to get that early trailer as it was, and I wonder if the reshoots are happening now to allow changes to the story, just in case of leaks. Once the main trailer hits I expect more will trickle out, and then there is the inevitable merchandising build from the autumn to the films release. As soon as we hit September it will start in earnest, if they go too soon the impact will wear out, particularly given the heavy summer blockbuster season. Its a fine line to walk between over saturation and keeping everybody interested.
Given that the demand for "Frozen" merchandise was badly underestimated, the marketing department will have very carefully planned this out. I personally think they should release the film a week or so before the main Xmas date but Disney will be looking for Avatar style records here well into the New Year and beyond.

I appreciate we all want to enjoy our fandom in our own unique ways but I never understood the extent some people go to avoid news about an upcoming film out of fear it will ruin their experience when they do see it. For me what's most fun is devouring all the new, rumors, even spoilers leading up to a film like SW which Iove so much. My Force Awakens experience changes every day and I have had months of fun and many more to go. Nothing can ruin seeing the film, even knowing the ending. I read I am your father in the storybook before I ever saw ESB and it was awesome. Come to the spoiler thread, it's way more fun then this snooze fest.

Well you don't want parents blowing all the toy money in the 4 weeks between Black Friday and the release. If they waited till release day to put the toys out there would only be seven shopping days before Christmas.

John Williams to record the score this summer? There seems to be some confusion on whether Williams will record in London with the LSO or if it will all be done stateside (as he isn't exactly young anymore and hasn't left the US since RotS).

This may have been posted... Disney is planning movies well PAST EP IX! The Saga will continue as long as it generates money / fan interest. Pray for quality storylines, plot twists and arcs!

I've largely stayed out of this thread, and it's because I don't want to "spoil" myself.
But by that I mean, not necessarily find out info, but rather have my expectations shift in one direction or the other. I'd rather go in a blank slate and just let the experience hit me fresh. No trailers, no spoilers, limited casting info, etc.
I've done movies both ways -- by following all the pre-production details, and by mostly steering clear of them, and I tend to enjoy movies a LOT more when I haven't had months or even years to build up my own set of expectations or assumptions. And it's not even about whether I will/won't like the movie. It's even about "Oh, I kinda wish they'd done what I thought they were gonna do with XYZ..."
Like, I know John Boyega is in a set of stormtrooper armor and looks scared (mostly from images that popped up in my facebook feed). So, from that image alone, I can start conjecturing what his story is. He's an imperial defector on the run! He's in disguise on Tatooine and hoping to find Luke to train him as a Jedi! He's part of the Republic's new army that uses Stormtrooper armor! He's....
You get the idea. But by steering clear as much as possible, I just...let the film hit me. No ideas about what's going to happen, no time to formulate elaborate theories or "Oh, I'll bet ABC happens because of what I saw in the trailer!" Just me, sitting in the theater, watching the film, judging it on its own merits, rather than ones I've given or taken away from it ahead of time.
That said, that's just how my brain works with films like this. Other people have totally different experiences, and I wish them the best. I just know what works for me and what doesn't.
