Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Really? Wasn't that way paved decades ago?
Give me an hour and I could list a hundred action movies with female heroes.
I think you need to watch more movies.

Agreed.I wish we could put this argument to sleep. These are more enlightened times and the entertainment industry has responded to changing tastes because there is a demand for it. But I find Jeyls obsession rather odd given just how many really strong and interesting female characters actually populate many of the hit films and TV series we've had over the decades. His arguments kind of hollow very hollow when you look at them all.

Princess Leia, The Star Wars series, Carrie Fisher

Katniss Everdeen, The Hunger Games, Jennifer Lawrence

Mystique/Raven, The X men films, Rebbecca Romijn / Jennifer Lawrence

Trinity, The Matrix Trilogy, Carrie/Anne Moss

Ellen Ripley, The Alien Quadrilogy, Sigourney Weaver

Neytiri/ Trudy Chacon, Avatar, Zoe Saldana/Michelle Rodriguez

Gamora, Guardians of the Galaxy, Zoe Saldana

Nyota Uhara, Star Trek, Zoe Saldana/ Nichele Nicols

Sarah Connor, Terminator series, Linda Hamilton /Lean Headey

Cameron, Terminator Chronicles, Summer Glau

Hermoine Granger, Harry Potter, Emma Watson

Hit girl, KIck Ass series, Chloe Moretz

Natasha Romanoff, The Marvel films, Scarlett Johansson

Lucy, Lucy, Scarlet Johansson

Selina Kyle, The Dark Knight Rises, Anne Hathaway

Olivia Dunham, The Fringe, Anna Torv

Samantha Carter, Star Gate TV series, Ammanda Tapping

Rita Vrataski, The Edge of Tomorrow, Emily Blunt

Zoe Washburne, Firefly, Gina Torres

Buffy Sommers, Buffy (TV series), Sarah Michelle Gellar

Max, Dark Angel , Jessica Alba

Echo, The Doll House, Eliza Dushka

Jamie Sommers, The Bionic Woman, Lyndsy Wagner

Diana Prince, Wonder Woman, Linda Carter

Xena, Warrior Princess, Lucy Lawless

Sydney Fox, Relic Hunter, Tia Carre

Kara Thrace /Laura Roslin, Battlestar Galactica, Katee Sackhoff/ Mary Mc Donnell

Eowyn/Galadriel, Lord of the Rings, Miranda Otto/ Cate Blanchett

Dana Scully, The X files, Gillian Anderson

Sydney Bristow, Alias , Jennifer Garner

Kate Austin, Lost, Evangiline Lilly

And lastly but by no means least the brilliant range of roles in Game of Thrones for many of the female cast that are absolutely outstanding.
Interestingly Jeyl seems to fail to mention AT ALL Gwendolyn Christies as Captain Phasma in TFA along with a fair spread of other female roles.

I'd also mention "Ava" played by Alica Vikander in "Ex Machina" who plays a female robot AI who brilliantly manipulates the entire male cast (of two) . There are probably many others but I'm kind of burning out right now.

C-3PO has developed a programming glitch that makes him the droid equivalent of a cannibal. He stole a silver 3PO's lower leg, and a red one's arm...

Actually, I always wondered why they didn't paint him green for the Endor mission. He didn't exactly blend in, and any civilization that has mastered hyperspace HAS to have developed spray paint.

Actually, I could've seen some comedy potential there.

[SNIP]

You forgot...
Kate Beckinsale in the Underworld series.
Angelina Jolie as Tomb Raider (and most every other character she plays)
Divergent/Insurgent
Charmed (TV series)
Kill Bill
Sucker Punch (didn't say these movies had to be good, right?)
Resident Evil
Charlie's Angels

And those are just the live-action characters. What about animated female characters? I'm not going to list them, I'm not nearly as motivated as you.

Can't match it?

Maybe they didn't bother to match it. Maybe they were short on parts and they hastily fixed him. Etc.

He had a silver leg for the entire trilogy, noone seems bothered by that.

Who says that he belongs to the New Rebels? Perhaps whoever owns him now is poor? Maybe Luke ran into some money issues at some point and couldn't afford to fix 3P0's arm proudly, I'd imagine that being a Jedi trying to reestablish the Jedi Order doesn't exactly pay that well.

Obviously it's to show he's had a lot of adventures since ROTJ, like the silver leg. At least though the silver kind of matched the gold. Just slapping a red arm on there doesn't make sense to me. I doubt Leia just sold C-3PO either. She probably has access to a lot of money from the royal family so I would think she could afford it. Yeah the Empire probably seized a lot of it, but I'm sure Bail made sure she had a secure line to a bunch of money.

It's interesting that the radar dish was the only change in the falcon. That leads me to think that no one has used it since rotj.

I'd like to see real evidence of 30 years passing in this series. The red arm is great. But I could use more. Maybe they'll get artoo's jet rockets fixed ;)

I noticed some obviously replaced (different shade of gray) panels on the 1:1 scale Falcon prop that were not there in the OT.

Yes. Geyndolyn Christie is playing a Stormtrooper. You remember those guys? They had incredibly bad aim, couldn't see well out of their own helmets, kept getting tossed around like ragdolls by a Wookie and couldn't win a battle against the technologically inferior Ewoks who were armed with sticks and rocks. I don't think playing the role of a stormtrooper is something to aspire towards. It's like casting Anne Hathaway as a redshirt in Star Trek.

Good catches, I just gave up after a while there were so many. "The Major" in "Ghost in the Shell" is a particular favourite of mine. And I'll leave it at that.

Guy,funny, but not exactly helping the argument here.

At least in just over two weeks time you'll be somewhat freer to discuss other things that will help make this thread MUCH more interesting!!!! Infact we'll all have plenty to post about.

I'm surprised nobody has pointed out C3PO actually has the same arm a discoloured reddish shade in AOTC

I can't go into it in this thread but she ain't a Stormtrooper per say. I suggest you read up a bit on the spoilers.

Oh and I'll put money on it that she kicks major ass in this movie.
