Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Flat out won't happen as Avengers is slated for the first friday in May. Disney owns that as well, so they'll want the releases spaced out so as not to step on one another.

If anything, May 22 to capitalize on Memorial day weekend could happen. I'd imagine that'd be the earliest.

That makes more sense. I didn't think of the Avenger release, as I was just looking for the stupid pun. It's how my brain operates. ;)

Memorial weekend release, plus they could call the whole weekend through Monday the 25th, a " SW Anniversary Weekend".

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

No IMAX 3D?

Yeah exactly. Imax > 35 mm, the bigger the better :D

I am also with you guys on May 4th. I NEVER commemorate Star Wars on that day. I love stupid puns, but sorry... May 25th is REAL Star Wars day.

Hear hear. It's also the ALIEN day ;)

I predict a May 8th 2015 release, with special "May the 4th be with you" showings earlier that week.

Too early and it's a friday. The other have been released on wednesdays or thursdays.
EP1: Wednesday May 19th 1999
EP2: Thursday May 16th 2002
EP3: Thursday May 19th 2005

EP4: Wednesday May 25th 1977
EP5: Wednesday May 21st 1980
EP6: Wednesday May 25th 1983

So it will probably be one of these dates:

Wednesday May 20th 2015
Thursday May 21st 2015

Wednesday May 27th 2015
Thursday May 28th 2015

My bet is Thursday May 21st 2015 :popcorn

I was at the theater on everyone of these days except for episode 6, by then I was really tired of disappointment. I was disappointed a day later. :cry

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

YES! None of that digital, 3D garbage.

That doesn't necessarily mean that it won't be converted over to 3D in post and shown via digital projection. In fact, I can practically guarantee that it will be converted to 3D in post and be shown in digital projection theaters; there's just no way a movie like Star Wars won't get the 3D treatment no matter what medium it's filmed in.

Disney did cancel the 3D versions of Episodes 2, 3, 4, 5 and 6. We were supposed to get EP2 in 3D earlier this year and EP3 in October :(

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

That was more a marketing decision as opposed to an indictment if the 3D format.

That and converting a new release to 3D as opposed to an old release are two different things. I'd argue that it's much easier, and possibly cheaper, to convert a new release to 3D if only because the conversion costs would already be rolled into the movie's budget where as converting an old release means money out of pocket to pay for the conversion.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Did anyone watch TPM in 3D? Did it actually add anything? I tend to think that 2D films which are converted don't really add a ton, much of the time. The podrace might be good, but otherwise, I don't really see the benefit.

Then again, I've only seen Dredd and the new Oz film in 3D, and in both cases, thought it was employed reasonably well for certain sequences, and was fairly subtle the rest of the time.

I did and enjoyed it.

The Episode 2 - 3D conversion was shown to convention-goers at Star Wars Celebration Europe II in Germany almost a month ago. I did not attend any of the three screenings, but I heard that they were full ... but then, I don't know the capacity of the theatre either because I did not go ...

No, it did not add anything, because nothing had been added. The cinematography was the same and editing was the same. No new shots, no new effects, no alternative angles. It was very noticeable that the movie had not been made for 3D from the beginning.
I was especially disappointed of that the pod race had not been souped up. Great potential was squandered.
Also, I could not follow the lightsaber fight at the end - because it had been edited for 2D, it was a big blur and then it was over.

It was shown outdoors in a park.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I may be old fashioned, but I couldn't care less about IMAX or 3D. Besides the mild "neat" factor, 3D in particular doesn't add a thing for me.

No, Attack of the Clones 3D was shown at the "Digital Stage", which was indoors inside the convention centre in a room that was like a larger conference/presentation room. (Here are wide-angle shots of the room)
It was shown once per day at a different time, each of the three days of the convention.

They showed Return of the Jedi (the BluRay version) in Grugapark, on the other hand. I did go to that.
I am not sure that they could have shown a 3D movie in a park. It was not shown late enough that it was dark.

If you are going to contradict someone, then check your facts before, or you will come off as a fool. ;)

I care about 3D because I don't want it. Over here, many movies have not been shown in 2D, or not shown in 2D in any threatre that has been half decent. I am going to see episodes 7,8 and 9 on opening night, in full costume, together with other fans, and when I do I want a movie that I can watch and not some blurry mess.

I went to see TPM in 3d...although I'm not a big fan of 3d, after seeing the job that they did on Star Tours II, I started to wonder.

You didn't miss anything.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

In light of Ben Affleck being cast as Batman...Hollywood should just make this happen.
