Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I may be old fashioned, but I couldn't care less about IMAX or 3D. Besides the mild "neat" factor, 3D in particular doesn't add a thing for me.
I concur completely. The only movie I've seen that was better because of the 3D effects was Avatar. It was still a crap movie, but it was a visually beautiful crap movie. Otherwise, a good movie is a good movie, and a bad movie is a bad movie; 3D doesn't change that.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Definitely. Avatar was probably one of the most overrated movies I've ever seen. Without the 3D gimmick, it would not have had a leg to stand on.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I enjoyed Avatar, the 3d was VERY good, the story....'Dances with Wolves' on another planet....

When I see a great movie I can't wait for the DVD/BD for the home......I didn't buy Avatar

Look at it this way:

Did anyone watch TPM in 3D? Did it actually add anything? I tend to think that 2D films which are converted don't really add a ton, much of the time. The podrace might be good, but otherwise, I don't really see the benefit.

Then again, I've only seen Dredd and the new Oz film in 3D, and in both cases, thought it was employed reasonably well for certain sequences, and was fairly subtle the rest of the time.

Hell yes I have. Twice. Yes it added a tiny bit. But not much. Some movies just don't need to be in 3D.

You have missed the best 3D film.... Avatar ;) that is a must. Films where the 3D effect adds quite a lot: Avatar, Titanic, Jurassic Park, Toy Story.

Avatar was a good movie

Very short, very simple and very true :)

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

I vote they go real old school and do 35 mm Cinemascope! :D I've seen dozens of movies at the IMAX (attack of the clones, The Matrix Reloaded and Matrix Revolutions included but they were in 2-D) and its like being at a drive in but indoors. don't care much for it... all encompassing and you actually see less because of the sheer size of the image on screen. i.e., your focus of attention is always dead center and you miss out on peripheral activity. The last time I went to an IMAX showing of any film it was for Inception and I loved the movie but I found it to be a waste of the extra expendature to just see it at around twice the size. :rolleyes
I've seen a few 3-D IMAX films (The Polar Express) and they can be pretty cool but its gimmicky at best. You are much better seeing a 3-D pic at any typical standard digital theater.
The multiplex stadium seating theaters around here have really large screens as it is and are more than adequate for my viewing pleasure. I rarely ever see a need to see any film on the IMAX.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Well, Ian McDiarmid has now said he has not been contacted by anyone and doesn't think he will be. Could be a smokescreen but that's what he's saying.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Well, Dallas FanDays is coming up in a few weeks (Oct. 4-6), and the following are going to be there: Fisher, Prowse, Daniels, and Mayhew. This after so many reports that much of the original cast will have either prominent roles or marginal cameos! I'll be digging out the Marvel issue Star Wars #1 to get it signature CGC graded with all 4 sigs!

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

Cumberbatch is a great actor and would be a great choice as a formidable villain. He would have been my second choice behind Fassbender. Please don't give him lousy dialogue or kill him off in the first one.

Re: Star Wars Episode VII

These unknown websites posting info on casting could mean anything. First it was Cosmic Book saying Cranston is Luthor and now Cumberbatch... Film Chronicles looks more trustworthy than Cosmic Book, but I'm still not putting a whole lot of stock in it.

After his turn as Khan, I hope he gets to play someone a bit more on the good side of things... although, it is his "darker" side that makes him fun to watch. Even his Holmes isn't all that bright cheery.
