Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release) (Spoilers)

The Superman levels of Jedi powers was one of the big problems I had with TCW. It continues to be one of my biggest gripes with the PT.

That's the thing about the Order 66 scenes that didn't make much sense to me, all throughout the PT they made the Jedis look well nigh invincible, able to deflect GI JOE quantities of blaster fire with ease but can only stop a small amount of blaster fire from clones. I can understand the ones that basically got shot in the back before they even had the chance to react but I remember at least one scene where one of the Jedi masters fending off fire from clones for less than 30 seconds. What happened to the ability to deflect tons of blaster fire without even breaking a sweat?

It's the classic Inverse Ninja Law at work. Except substitute jedi for ninja.:D

One thing with SW that bugged me is they make the Jedi out like super people who can deflect blaster fire, jump impossible distances, move who mountains with their minds or basically be some comic book invincible type.

Makes them less likable,so I enjoyed the order 66 part with them getting slaughtered for once :D

I don't get why people think the Jedi powers in the movies are so outlandish. They don't jump impossible distances at all. Maybe for a regular human, yeah, but not Jedi. If you go by that then Luke using the Force to jump out of the carbon freezing chamber is too crazy. Lucas actually set limits for that stuff. In the movies or TCW series I never saw something that was really crazy. If you say the books and games, then you have a claim to crazy superhero powers.

Part of the reason the clones supposedly got the drop on the Jedi was because the Dark Side was fogging their ability to use the Force. Yoda says as much. Also, though it's never explained how the Jedi danger sense thing works, they might not have got a warning if they didn't detect any malice from the clones. Of course if actual danger rather than a feeling from the person intending to do harm is the cause, then maybe only Yoda sensed danger because he is so powerful. Who knows.

Like I've said before, I'd like to look at the thing Lucas drew up that said what the limits of Jedi powers were for the Prequels. It told how many battledroids, super battledroids, or organics a Jedi could take on at once, etc.

Go watch the Clone Wars I've seen Anakin jump off of what could be the flippin' Hoover dam and catch a clone trooper with the force before he landed,or try moving a whole mountain to save Ashoka and Ventress I think it was.

It is funny the Jedi have all these superduper powers and get shot to bits at the end.....more of Lucas's mind wandering I guess.

Yeah but the Clone Wars I really don't count because it was a cartoon and had to make certain consessions to be entertaining. There's alot of things that happened in the cartoon that just couldn't be possible... I mean c'mon... Darth Maul was put back together after being cut in half? Really???

But it is canon. That is where the issues are introduced to the rest of the franchise.

No the only thing that is CANON are the films. The books, games and the cartoons took alot of leeway and exaggerated alot of things. The cartoons aren't truly canon!

The Clone Wars and Rebels are canon. You are free to disregard then in your own head canon but if you are going to engage others in a conversation about the story of Star Wars, you can't discount them. Everyone is entitled to an opinion, but not all opinions are valid.

Brian is right, both the Clone Wars and Rebels are considered to be part of the official canon by the Star Wars story group and Disney, whether you like it or not. As Brian says, you don't have to include them in your own personal head canon but when discussing Star Wars with others you kind of have to acknowledge that they are canon and what happens/happened in them can have an effect, or at least influence, what see and read going forward.

Still I'd give TCW and Rebels some leeway because they're more fanciful than the movies. I don't think Lucasfilm/Disney thinks a Jedi can leap mountain to mountain.

Like I said it would be a lot easier if Lucasfilm would release the document they did for the prequels that showed the limits of the Jedi. I remember it had everything from how many opponents of various types one Jedi could take on to how far vertically or horizontally they could jump, etc. The little bits they've let out sound reasonable.

yeeeeeah... the toons are canon. And I'm cool with that. Rebels is pretty entertaining.

If the Toons are canon then the the games are canon, the books are canon, the EU is canon, Hardware Wars is canon, Robot Chicken is canon, Family Guy is canon and every single fan made Star Wars related video on the internet is canon! You gotta draw the line somewhere and I'm sorry, for me... the only real canon are the movies! All the rest is purely fan directed entertainment. It might be my opinion, but at least it's based in reality. I saw Star Wars in the theater when it first came out. Back when you compared with your friends how many times you've seen it! When the books came out (The first being A Splinter of the Mind's Eye) they were alright but then again, they weren't written by Lucas and I considered them to be just fan driven fun. I spent years collecting the trading cards, action figures, and models. When the prequels came out, I accepted them (even thou I didn't particularly care for them) as canon because George had his hand on them. When the internet came into being YEARS after the movies you started seeing TONS of fan written stuff and then the trading card games came out to capitolize on the Pokemon and Magic the Gathering craze. I'm sorry, but the only cartoons that may even be considered canon was Droids (or even Ewoks) because Lucas had his hands in those. Clone Wars was basically given free reign by Lucas, but he never really had any say in it. The EU was basically just a collection of the trading card games, and all the video games were basically just fan driven. So... in my EXPERT opinion in all things Star Wars over my entire lifetime, Clone Wars and Rebels are NOT truly canon. Sure the storylines are in keeping with the original spirit of the movies, however, there is way too many liberties taken that throw them into the non-canon lineage!

No. The canon is whatever Lucas films decides is canon. And they've clearly defined what is, and is not, canon.

Which is entirely irrelevant for the purposes of this conversation. And it was Splinter of the Mind's Eye.

Where is this clearly defined? Is there a site or a resource that can be referenced to show just how "clearly" things have been defined? This is exactly what I'm talking about... there is no CLEAR definition of anything other than the movies! The movies have been around since the 70's and have been scrutized, taken apart, talked about and completely laid out for everyone to see over the past 30 years. Hell I remember waiting 3 years to see ROTJ to find out whether or not Vader was lying about being Luke's Dad just to get under his skin. My friends and I couldn't believe he was telling the truth (he was the bad guy afterall). During those 3 years tons of theories popped up about how it was all just a ploy of his to get him to join the darkside. But NONE of it was canon until ROTJ came out and answered all those questions. Now, the way I see the toons and all the little entertaining rhetoric between movie releases is the same... not canon until the next movie release to confirm or deny any of it. Anything outside the movies is speculation and fan driven drivel IMHO until it is actually confirmed somehow in the next movie!

This was the press release Lucasfilm gave that established everything after April 25, 2014 being canon. Period: http://www.starwars.com/news/the-legendary-star-wars-expanded-universe-turns-a-new-page

Also, a few of the new "Journey to The Force Awakens" books have a small timeline chart that establishes the official canon in chronological order.

Hope this cleared things up.
