Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release) (Spoilers)

As far as the lack of evolution in designs, when you think about it. Have military jets really changed that much since 1985? Sure, they changed a lot since the 60'2 and 70's but not so much between the late eighties and now

Yes and no, while 5th gen fighters don't look that different from a 4th gen fighter they are quite different in what they're capable of and on the inside. F-22s and F-25s have far better engines and avionics than their fourth generation predecessors and then there's the stealth aspect as well. The ships and equipment of the First Order could be the same, they bare a superficial resemblance on the outside but on the inside they're completely different.

As for the TIEs, I just think it was lazy not to either design something new or use the TIE Avenger (which was designed to look like a direct result of Vader's prototype TIE). Heck use the TIE Interceptor, at least it's newer. Hopefully they have something else and are holding it back like someone said.

If all depends on the back story of the New baddies, are they the remnants of the Empire with s new name or are they something totally different that's just browsing the Empire's look. If they're Imperial remnants then they might not have the resources to build & design new TIEs and are using the old ones because they're cheap & easy to produce. If it's somebody else then maybe they just like the TIEs for the same reasons as above or the simply don't have anything better themselves. Besides, whose to say that these are the exact same model of TIE fighter that we've seen before, maybe they're a TIE mk. II or something; sort of life how we're flying F-15C Block whatever which only look like the original Block 1 F-15A but is a much different and improved version of the original.

I do think more and more that the First Order is making a move with whatever they can get -- decades-old landing craft and walkers, and the troopers' armor and the TIEs are either the only new-build stuff they could manage or were sourced from some sector Moff's personal garrison (maybe Hux or his dad, pre-ROTJ...?) and had been built that way decades ago, outside of the regular Quartermaster supply chain.

There's a part of me that wants to see some predecessor of the Second Galactic Empire from the Legacy comics show up and bail out Our Heroes against the First Order -- with Avengers and Interceptors and the "updated" Stormtrooper design from those comics. A nice compare-and-contrast, and also a pointed commentary that the problem with the Empire wasn't the Empire -- it was the Emperor. Not necessarily in TFA, but Ep VIII or IX. *shrug* A thought...

So the Darths are dead ,long live the Rens. Kylo Ren is a "Knight of Ren". Well I guess Star Wars has under gone a bit of a renaissance recently.

Is it possible that they have only showed pictures of Kylo with his hood up because the back of the helmet is Vader's helmet? I mean, I know that is the speculation, but is it possible that they are trying to save that imagery until the movie hits theaters because of that? I mean, we've seen a lot of images from the film so far, but not that one bit of his costume.

You'know with the new pics over in the other thread and a few other things I've had a new thought and a question and I think this is a better place for it:

I'm starting to get the idea that after ROTJ not only did the war NOT end but it went into some crazy high gear, maybe the Empire fractioned and there was a decade of civil war between them and they fought the rebels at the same time, then the new order was born and then they went hell for tilt after the rebels/new republic.

Now my question is this-at the end of the new added scenes in ROTJ we see a bunch of worlds celebrating the Empire's "defeat" with all that's coming up with TFA you gotta wonder just how bad some of them suffered when surprise, surprise the Empire was STILL around and probably a touch sensitive about this "freedom" thing.

And you have to wonder how badly some places got screwed up when the rebels went to retake them...if they retake them at all.

I'm liking it and I'm kinda hoping the Empire not only stays but becomes the force of the galaxy and the new republic has to accept them.

All of this is already out there. Look up Journey to The Force Awakens and check out the synopsis of the new canon books and comics coming out in Sept. 4th that describes the post ROTJ state of the galaxy.

Spoilers regarding Kylo Ren from the EW article

Kylo Ren is a “Vader obsessive.”

Do Kylo Ren’s impenetrable helmet and dark flowing cape remind you of another Star Wars baddie we know? That’s very much the idea. EW describes Kylo Ren as a “Vader obsessive,” despite being born years after Vader’s death.

“The movie explains the origins of the mask and where it’s from, but the design was meant to be a nod to the Vader mask,” said Abrams. “[Ren] is well aware of what’s come before, and that’s very much a part of the story of the film.”

Kylo Ren’s crossguard lightsaber is a homemade piece.

Kylo Ren’s lightsaber caused a stir among fans when it was first revealed, thanks to its unusual crossguard design. Turns out there’s a reason it doesn’t look like a standard-issue lightsaber — it isn’t one. “The lightsaber is something that he built himself, and is as dangerous and as fierce and as ragged as the character,” confirmed Abrams.

Kylo Ren isn’t his real name.

With so much about the character shrouded in mystery, the one thing we thought we knew for certain about Kylo Ren was that he was named “Kylo Ren.” However, Abrams revealed that’s not actually his birth name. In fact, the “Ren” part isn’t a name at all. (More on that below.)

Naturally, that raises the question of what his true name is, and what it’ll reveal about his backstory. Does he have famous parents, maybe?

Kylo Ren belongs to a group called the Knights of Ren.

Okay, so about that “Ren” part: It’s not a name but a title, like the “Darth” in Darth Vader. Abrams explained: “He is a character who came to the name Kylo Ren when he joined a group called the Knights of Ren.” As for who the Knights of Ren are, well, that’s something else we’re just gonna have to wait to find out.

Kylo Ren is not your typical villain.

Or so claimed Abrams: “He is not your prototypical mustache-twirling bad guy.” Kasdan agreed, saying “there’s never been a character quite like” Kylo Ren in the Star Wars universe. What that actually means is unclear. Abrams described the character as “complex” and Kasdan as “full of emotion.”

But we can look forward to Kylo Ren evolving as the story unfolds. “I think that what makes Ren so unique is that he isn’t as fully formed as when we meet a character such as Darth Vader,” said Abrams. And while we might see the First Order as the bad guys, Kylo Ren does not. “Both sides, arguably, would see themselves as the hero of their story, and I think that applies here,” he said.

I hate the added celebration scenes. Tatooine wouldn't care, Cloud City would barely notice, and Coruscant would be in official mourning -- if the government ecen acknowledged the Rebel propeganda. ;) I hope Aftermath shows what I've wanted since first seeing that in the SE -- rignt after the camera cuts away, the tanks and troops roll Iinto the plaza to shut that celebration down.

Also, I don't think Kylo's wearing Vader's helmet. Look at the action figure masters again...

Is it possible that the Knights of Ren are led by Snoke? And if that is the case, is that what will "replace" the sith and that stupid "always 2" garbage?

I'm pretty pumped about that little bit of information.

So am I.
As for Leia's Vader saber, I suppose if she uses it (after all, it's a family heirloom!) Luke will have set her up with a non-red crystal.
I'm thinking Luke must have taken it at the end of RotJ just like Obi-Wan did in EpIII.

If Luke recovers his Bespin saber, both Skywalkers could be using their father's sabers. That would be a nice nod.

Maybe he is a member of the Knights of Nee?

He's just looking for a couple of shrubberys to make a nice little path...

LOL.

Some interesting stuff... But BOO HISS NO TRAILER???

:(.......

The saber is the films McGuffin. She doesn't fight with it, she uses it to find Luke and Rey eventually return it to him at the end if the film.

I'm sad it isn't the Legions of Lettow. As it is, the Knights of Ren just makes me think of... well...
