Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release) (Spoilers)

NEW TRAILER OUT NOW!!!

That's what I would like to read as soon as possible from an official source... ;-)
This waiting is killing me. :-(

Don't do that. I actually looked for a few minutes before I saw the rest of your post.

It's looking like Poe Dameron's parents were rebel fighters in "Shattered Empire". http://www.slashfilm.com/star-wars-shattered-empire-kes-dameron/
So, Um, are his parents black? Is he adopted? Which would only strengthen my theory that no one in the Star Wars universe is raised by his/her parents. Their either adopted or kidnapped to be disciples in a religious cult.

Oscar Isaac is Guatemalan, he's not white. Those characters look like they could be Central American/Hispanic.

I totally agree. I don't think anyone in the SWU was ever actually raised by their true parents. Look at Luke (Uncle Ben and Aunt Beru), Leia (Bale Organa), Anakin (Althou he did start off with his mom til he was like 8).

On the other hand, there's a whole host of characters from both the OT & PT that we have no idea of what their childhood was like. For instance, take Han, Lando, & Chewie, we have no idea if they were raised by their parents or not, same goes with Bail and Anakin's mom. I'd say that it's more of a case of several Force sensitive/Jedi characters that were raised by people other than their biological parent.

We've met Chewie's dad, so we can assume he was raised by his natural parents (unless it was his Wookie-in-Law).

From a quick consult with some of my friends, I know I'm not the only one thinking this... but I'm hoping Finn's last name is Windu. Mace just fell out a window. On Coruscant. We know from what Anakin did in AOTC that you have plenty of time to gather your thoughts when that happens. No body, no confirmed kill. They brought Maul back from worse. :facepalm

Meanwhile, I don't see any problem with Poe's parents. I know a lot of people who are lighter or darker than their natural parents. Genetics and epigenetics are funny things.

That would mean that Mace had a little sumpin' goin' on with a lady. And that's forbidden...for some reason

If there is any references to the PT in this film that aren't just so buried and trivial that they cant matter then I'll eat my hat and all your hats

Oscar Isaac is Hispanic! He's not white. And nothing in the spoilers and rumors would indicate Finn is a Windu.

Since Star Wars is Disney now it would make sense that Poe is an orphan of some sort, it's a very Disney thing to be either an orphan or have only one parent. Just think about all of the classic Disney characters and how few have both parents still around? Goofy has a son whose mother we've never seen or know anything about, Donald has 3 nephews whose parents we never see, both Ariel and Jasmine have no mothers, Belle is an orphan and so is Aladdin, and I don't think any of the classic princesses had a complete set of parents either. So given that, it would make a lot of sense for Poe to have been raised by people other than his biological parents, it's not only a classic Jedi tradition, it's also a Disney one too.

My bet is on Finn being the nephew of the black kid at the imperial academy in Rebels. Wasn't that boy's sister held by the Empire for some research program or something?

EDIT: The girl's name is Dhara Leonis. She was identified as a force sensitive and abducted by the inquisitor. I wouldn't be surprised if Finn's last name was Leonis. Would tie in well with continuity.

I know. I'm saying his skin tone versus his parents' in the comic.

As for Finn speculation, I'd be fine with that, too. I like that episode of Rebels and hoped we'd see that kid again. He was old enough, and John Boyega is young enough, that Finn could definitely be his son, born about seven years post-ROTJ.

Why do some of you think that if you see a new black person in Star Wars, he must be related to that other black person you saw in Star Wars?
