Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release) (Spoilers)

Well at the moment most of the impressions are being made from toys or Lego.Wait til we see the actual movie images. I'm liking things so far.

a friend just texted me, we see who ends up with the graflex in a movie poster...

We've known that for ages! Finn's costume art had the saber and was shown at SW Celebration! Read the story synopsis and he is swinging it around? Don't people read these threads?

I remember seeing the costume art it was in his pocket wasn't it? I thought Rey was going to be the graflex owner. I didn't read the story synopsis

Yes, it was partially in a pocket. Rey doesn't want the saber but the end if the film takes it to Luke. If you don't read the spoilers why are you here?

I really don't think theres anything to worry about how women are represented in Star Wars now,......times have changed,....George isn't writing,...Kathleen is at the top.....Disney has a lot to say, (the biggest thing recently,...Frozen,.....in fact all Disney/Pixar/Marvel has very strong female characters)

New speeder bikes...

I don't like the handgrip position... First thing I've really not liked...

I'm hoping that this is just for the toy. They might have not wanted to give the figure rotating wrists so they made the handlebars that way. It's the same thing they did with the original toy speederbike.

Yeah,....I loved the Naboo & the ROTS Starfighter for the way that theres a TARDIS dimension warping device inside them to allow a Droid to fit in,...very clever:D

Granted, but those are both still 100 times better looking designs that that snowspeeder.

Jeyl just tell us what you think would be a good female role. If she's already the hero I don't know how much more you could show a woman doing the same job as a guy and becoming the hero.

Thank you JKNO for the wonderful photos. Daisy is a Pretty Lady for sure. Her Joy and excitement for this role and strength we see from her in the small sample make her character that much more appealing. The more I see of the film and promos the more I am excited for her as a main/lead character. Would be amazing to see her wield a lightsaber and kick some bad guy butt in this set of stories. When I 1st learned Leia was Luke's sister as a kid I hoped we would see her with a lightsaber and battle the bad guys along side Luke. Now hopefully we get to see that. Not into collecting action figures anymore ( I had my fun ) but to tell the truth Daisy was the coolest of all the new action figures to me as to all the hope and promise she embodies and represents to the character. Look forward to Finn as well to see what he brings to the role. We have seen many diverse Jedi throughout the prequels but not a leading female with story time and focus since our beloved Leia. Just exciting and fresh.

You've nailed one of the problems Sluis. A female character who starts out as tough, kickbutt hero from the beginning does not automatically make them great characters. Look at characters like Wyldstyle from the Lego Movie, Trinity from The Matrix and Astrid from How To Train Your Dragon. Both characters are depicted as strong, capable and determined characters, but when the inexperienced guy comes into the picture, their roles are given a massive downgrade where they are left on the side lines where our newly christened hero does all the heavy lifting. But hey, at least those female characters got to hook up with the 'real' hero of the story.

And looking at what this movie has to offer, Rei certainly looks to fit that category. Compare the descriptions to both Finn and Rei's description.

FINN: A trained warrior desperate to escape his past, Finn is plunged into adventure as his conscience drives him down a heroic, but dangerous path.

REY: Rey is a resiliant survivor, a scavanger toughened by a lifetime of dealing with cutthroats of a harsh desert world of Jakku.

Who sounds like the real hero? A former stormtrooper who's seeking redemption, or a tough scavenger? Cripes, her description sounds more interested in describing the planet Jakku than her actual role in the story. So the kind of female hero you don't like is likely the one you'll be getting in this movie. You want to know what I think would make a good female role? Maybe one who commands the story instead of just playing a supporting role? One who is actually worth talking about? If I knew the answer, you'd better believe I'd be writing stories about them day in and day out.
