Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Pre-release) (Spoilers)

I'm saying it again in this thread, it sucks. You know those really awful fanmade Stormtroopers and Mandalorians made out of plastic trashcans? They have no detail and are just flat. Well apparently the movie guys copied those crap suits for this.

How are you seeing flat and no-detail with all the raised and recessed stuff on helmet and armor? Panel lines, cut apertures, added-on pieces, latches... There's a lot of detail on these things.

Because somebody has to hate it. Somebody has to complain about it. It wouldn't be Star Wars unless he had an irrational hatred for it.

On an optimistic note, I am really pumped about what kind of stuff we are going to see before the weekend is out. I NEED more info.

I'm feeling that same sort of excitement that I felt before the trailer release. Hopefully I sleep more than last time though.

There is some detail, but most of it is completely flat. Some of the same people who cursed Lucas and swore the ROTS Clone armor was awful are saying this is the most beautiful thing they've ever seen. Seriously? That armor at least looked like Stormtrooper armor. The Rubies Stormtrooper armor looks better. Rubies! I don't get how people like it at all with all the complaints on the Prequels armor, which was 100 times better.

Well, at least this armor actually EXISTS...

i have a set of accurate ANH armor in my den.

I love all of the OT designs. I have several helmets and prop replicas.

I see what you are getting at...

But I disagree with it being the worst thing ever! Or that it looks like an amateur trashcan fan design...

I want to see it in motion before I can really judge it.

I GARAUNTEE it will move more fluidly on the actors and not be so damned hard to walk and act in while wearing it than OT armor! which I think was a big influence on its design.

I DONT like the ribbed under suit though...

The fact that it's a physical suit is the big winner for me. Besides I never hated the clones armor, just the fact that they are over cgi'd.

I don't quite know what to make of it, I kind of like the Mad rendering a little better even though it's little more than a slightly modified OT Stormtrooper. Who knows, maybe it will grow on me over time or when we get better overall look at it.

I'm calling it first... The part between the chest and shoulder bells is some sort of white rubberish type material. It definately looks like a different material than the chest and shoulders.

Went back and watched the first trailer and it does seem to flex in that area...

Again, more function over form. The opposite of the CGI clones.

"I GARAUNTEE it will move more fluidly on the actors and not be so damned hard to walk and act in while wearing it than OT armor! which I think was a big influence on its design."

Spot on! Didn't anyone wonder why they've actually been shown a picture of a real (not CGI) trooper sprinting for the first time ever (instead of at best a jog?). Its because the suit allows people to run and fight far more convincingly than the ackward and arthritic shuffle the old style used to allow. For once the STs actually appear like a very credible threat for a change ,as they charge into battle as opposed to tripping over eachother. And I think "flat" is the wrong term to use, "sleek" is a far better one. Theres still a fair amount of detail in it but its recessed . Its a very successful evolution of design and it will be one of the better ones. If they hadn't made some alterations people would have moaned and said "thirty years and you haven't even changed your armour. And go take a bath! "

Wow that artwork definitely looks like Drew Struzen style,....lovely.....everything very cool to my eye

EXCITED

It looks like the 501st is going to get a little more diverse now. I wonder how long it will be before we start seeing people making & wearing the new trooper armor at cons and for that matter, how long before we start seeing the WIP threads here.
