Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Hater

No one will be watching the movies he likes in 30 years.

Guys - my wife has seen it twice and says she will go again. She had never seen a Star Wars film. It's a great move / piece of art.

Yea - it's all corporate manipulation marketing hype and the LA times moron is right - film sucks.

This is just stupid. There is a segment of our population that is never happy even when they get what they want. A vocal obnoxious minority.

I am getting very tired of the amount of negativity towards not just this film but also most of the science fiction films Seen in recent times. The Internet has a lot to answer for.

I am considering starting a month Python style thread " what did George Lucas ever do for us " just so we can acknowledge that he did actually create he whole universe were enjoying and the technology's that he created changed science fiction films forever , and ILM have been involved in 90% of my favourite films had a hand in .

No Moviefreak! Don't make me read this article! Too much truth. It's Disney, I don't expect unexpected things in Marvel movies, the LA times confirms this... :( I don't go in expecting Pepper Potts to die. It is a serial, like he says. The bad guy does something diabolical, perhaps someone you like dies, but not without some clear foreshadowing or justification. Marvel is based off comics where you probably already know the outcome, with no surprises. I'm ok with the formula, it works, mostly, Age of Ultron ehhhhh...
LA TIMES reports:
"Admit it: 'Star Wars: The Force Awakens' stinks -- and here's why"

The article raises a lot of general concerns , did Disney and JJ play it safe , absolutely but some of the blame there has to lay at the doors of the Star Trek fans who would have stoned him to death for what was done to THEIR precious Trek series.
not wanting to see a repeat they have played it safe to guarantee we all return for a second viewing at least ( that will cover the cost of buying lucasfilm)
and remember it's fans abuse that caused Lucas to release lucasfilm , who now works on personal projects that he won't share with the world?

we all want to see fresh stories and ideas , dumping the expanded universe freed them up to surprise us at the cost of a lot of fan disappointment .
but they did not deliver , I've read a couple of the novels , I don't intent to read any more THEY ARE CACK ,

The villain is great , what I dreamt of. A villain that has lost control , not always super cool under pressure.......he will be interesting.
phasma at the moment is a nod to older films , disappointing considering the build up.

The other characters worked great together , but there definitely was some chopping and cutting with where they were meant to go, speeder chase looks like it got cut out, maybe even including Poe, constable zuvio etc etc. And the reduction in the rebels numbers is not clearly enough understood.

i enjoyed the film, technically very good, and it was without doubt a Star Wars film, humour excitement and action.

its lacking a broading universe , in that is seems limited to most characters and situations we've seen before ( in a Star Wars movie )
but I think that is what we as fans asked for .

it will be interesting how the next two chapters are handled , I am hoping they will be more risky with the storyline .

not all the marvel films are good films , I still rate winter soldier above avengers now, the more I watch that the more I'm impressed and I was never a captain America fan , I thought initially he was portrayed very weakly.

It's just very challenging to try and make comparisons with TFA specifically and SW in general with your typical film product. TFA is the first of three chapters and was constructed that way from the beginning similar to LOTR, difference being we know the LOTR story going in so the open ended nature of Fellowship is excused out of hand. The film also has to serve as the platform for re-launching an entire franchise. That's a lot on the shoulders of a singular product or work of art and entertainment.

I'm pretty sure gizmo WAS disputing what you've been saying....THAt is clear. What you ought to have said is "if you can't REFUTE what I've been saying.

I think the movie-going public have already done that.

As far as actors deserving nominations, that is a personal choice. The way that an actor makes us "feel" their performance is different for each of us. i personally found various examples of what i would classify noteworthy acting, because I BELIEVED the performances. It didn't feel like scripted lines to me...when Rey said "My Family will come back..one day" I FELT the heartbreak in her speech as she thought to herself that it may never come to pass. Daisey Ridley made ME feel that. THAT is good acting. I could mention plenty of others...but there is definitely solid acting in this film.

Ben is right. :thumbsup

Thanks.Daisey was my favorite. Very lovable character and I look forward to seeing her character Rey develop. ;)

Yes, it was! You can still like a film and find faults and discuss it rather than just dismiss others views that might not be 100% in line with the masses.

I think the OT was pretty narrow in scope, too. It was pretty tightly focused on our main core of heroes - that's one thing TFA learned the most about Star Wars, keep the focus tight on your leads. The PT had a lot more story to tell...

JJ's quotes about 8's script has be excited. Kasdan's has me both interested and concerned at the same time. I'm hopeful that VIII will be to TFA what ESB was to ANH.

Avengers AOU had a bad storyline riddled with holes - but, the characters helps make up for that - while it did huge box office, I think many didn't really think it up to Marvel standards. I find TFA a bit like that - however it is a much, much, much better movie than A:AOU; even with the issues TFA might have - the overall product trumps them.

I agree the score was a bit underwhelming.

Why thing that really gets my goat, how did Poe escape Jakku? You know what, doesn't matter, Poe probably found some random spaceship, or fixed Reys quad jet and flew away... :rolleyes

Anakins fall to the dark side felt mishandled. Like a lot of people have said, probably should've just started with Anakin hunting Jedi

How does his escape of jakku rise to the level of escape? Other than being stuck there with no obvious way off....sometimes, the easiest explanation is all you need. He found a civilized(ish) area. Borrowed a radio or holocom or whatever they used, called his contact and they sent a ship to get him. You never heard the FO wondering where he was. They seemed concerned with 'the traitor' and later the droid, but not with Poe - after landing on jakku. Perhaps they heard Finn telling Rey/BB8 on the planet that he didn't survive the crash?

In summation, I think I'll go into Ep8 with a more critical eye. I expect Ep8 to be a little more dangerous, and a little more molded than Ep7. Episode 7 had so much ground to cover and so many people to impress. At it's core, it is simply a bridge movie... and it did that VERY well. Yes, it was fast paced and did not allow of breathing time between critical scenes, but it really set the stage for Ep8 to do it's own thing and carve out it's own place in the SW universe. This was one of the big reasons I was ok with Death Star 3. However, if Ep8 has Death Star 4- which it won't- I'd call it quits. I don't think we can judge this movie too harshly until we've seen Ep8. TFA introduces a lot of new mysticism that some people apparently have an issue with. It leaves a lot of things open ended... and I LIKED that. It would be a different thing if Ep8 comes out and none of this is addressed, but I have a strong feeling that it will be.

I feel when Ep8 explains things that were introduced in TFA, some of these people giving this movie a bad rap will come to the light.

As someone posted on one of these THF threads,...it's like we've all been given bars of gold,....but theres some of us complaining that its too heavy

Honestly? I think I would rather have more animated shows like the clone wars than anything.

Imagine if that group of people were given free reigns to the the post-jedi era

My thought:
Rey has a villain to fight in episode 8 and that is Kylo Ren, They are both trained at that time in lightsaber fighting so thats gonna be the main fighting style.
Finn is going to tag along in what ever adventure they find but he and Kylo Ren should not meet again, He was lucky in ep 7 and the story needed him to fight Kylo Ren.
Will he turn out to be a Jedi in ep 8 and wield a ligthsaber of his own? Who knows....
We do now know that its possible to have a weapon that blocks a lightsaber thanks to stormtrooper TR-8R.
Finn needs a Villain of his own in the next movie and who better to combat him than Phasma armed with those lightsaber blocking weapons.
Think about it, In ESB the nr 2 hero was Han and he got his own bad guy to fight and that was Boba fett, when Hero nr 1 (luke) got to fight Vader.

I cant watch the Clone Wars & I'm a Star Wars fan......its also been axed

Disney wants everyone to love Star Wars,....to discover it or re-discover it,....the franchise was going in the wrong direction

I've seen ESB about a hundred times and I have yet to see Han fighting Boba Fett.

He shoots at Vader, and punches Lando, but Fett, they didn't even talk, never mind fight.

Really? I loved that show. It was a great framework to tell a lot of different types of stories.

I'm 90% positive that they cancelled it because it wasn't family friendly. And watching rebels really hits that home
