Star Wars: The Force Awakens (Post-release)

Yeah, that is one I rather like too. I just don't yet buy that Luke, Han or Leia would've abandoned a 5 year old girl to a guy like Unkar Plutt on a planet like Jakku. I might could've bought that maybe he was more benevolent than he let on but there is a deleted scene where he has a hostile interaction with her on Takodana so that doesn't seem to have been the plan. I could've even bought that Lor San Tekka was watching over her but there's really no evidence of that just yet.

Yeah I would really hate it if one of our heroes left her . the only slight evidence of that is when Rey remarks she did not think there was that much green in the universe on there showing up to Maz' s planet. Han has a guilty look for a second as he puts his head down . I guess he could have been feeling guilty that he was gonna put them in an escape pod and send her back though. Or just feel bad for her in general.

Yeah, I've heard people comment on Han's "guilty look" but I think it could've just as easily been interpreted that he simply felt sorry for her or that he realizes now that he couldn't in good conscience send this "lost puppy" back to Jakku.

He also does a little eyebrow raise that reads more "poor kid" then "I feel really bad I left my kid on Jakku".

$2B....almost there...

Yeah a Star Wars version of Man from Earth.
Nothing but stories told in one room about the history of the Jedi or something no flashbacks/ visions allowed .

Star Wars Episode VIII: The Force's Dinner with Rey.

But, we're all agreed that, if it doesn't beat Avatar, it's an abject failure, right?

Of the 14 people I saw the movie with over the course of my two viewings (guys and girls all in their late 20s/early 30s with one kid in the mix), one didn't like it at all, 2-3 thought it was "so-so" and the rest liked it. That's the cross-section I've been a personal witness to.

I've only encountered one person who definitively did not like it, actually preferring the prequels. Another friend's child attended a viewing with a group of kids celebrating a birthday. In spite of the fact that he is a hardcore OT fan who prefers to pretend the PT doesn't exist, he chose to walk the mall for two hours rather than see it again.

It's a mixed bag. While I prefer the OT (two of them anyway) to the PT, I found TFA more than a little disappointing.

I think the reaction is, by and large, quite positive, but as many have already said, the film is not without its flaws. Those flaws will loom larger for some than for others, and that's ok. It's art. Whatever you think of its construction in an objective sense, your experience of it will still, ultimately, be subjective, so if it just wasn't doin' it for ya, that's totally legitimate.

Personally, as I've said before, whatever the flaws of TFA may be, I'm most excited at how it (potentially) opens up the Star Wars universe to some much more interesting storytelling. I'm looking forward to what comes next. I'm also tempted to buy this on bluray, even though I kind of want to hold out and see if (in a few years) we get a 12-disc mega-set with the archival OOT thrown in, in which case I'll feel kinda dumb buying the ST blurays a second time... (And no, I haven't bought any of them on blu-ray yet.)

You'll be able to get the BR for 15 bucks. So what if you have 2 or 3 in the end of things? It's not that big a deal really.

I just hate giving up impulse control and then realizing that I'm paying for something I already bought once before.

I mean, it's bad enough paying for multiple format changes over time, but to buy on the SAME format with the SAME content just so that I can have access to...something else...nah. Not worth it to me. I can wait.

Too me, life is too short to save 15-20 bucks because the perfect set may come later. The set will never be complete in your lifetime if they keep making movies. You can always sell your old one for half price.

Laughs

I asked two people what they thought of the movie. They didn't like it. So, that means that 100% of people HATED this movie. It won't even beat Avatar. What a failure.

It's not about having a "complete" set. It's more that what I want most is the archival OOT. And, IF they ever release that (which, again, won't happen before 2020 and let's not get sidetracked on THAT discussion...), I don't expect the release to be as standalone films or a trilogy box. If anything, I expect they'd only be included to prompt, well, folks like me to bite the bullet and buy the mega-set of Eps. I-IX.

I'm willing to do that...but I'd be a lot MORE willing to do it if I don't already own everything except the PT and the archival OOT on blu-ray. I don't currently own any of the blu-ray releases. I didn't want the PT because I'm not a fan of those films, and I didn't want the technically sup-bar OT with changes that I don't like. So, really, the OOT and the ST are the only things that would encourage me to buy. Until then...I don't want to spend my money.

If that's the price I gotta pay for an OOT BR, they can double charge me!

An HD release of the unaltered OT is my rosebud. I would set a room full of orphans on fire if that's what it took. Getting stuck buying TFA twice is a complete non-issue. In the meantime though, I'd like to enjoy TFA, so I'll pony up 15 bucks in May. No biggie.
