Star Wars: Skeleton Crew

This is why I’m loving this show. The sense of adventure. I also really enjoyed the Mandalorian when it debuted for similar reasons. I kind of like the lower stakes where anything can happen. Both shows also had a lot of traveling to other places and exploring the larger galaxy, which I love.

Im kind of also hoping that they keep Jods backstory a mystery. I wont be upset if they chose to reveal it, but hes been a really unpredicable character at this point, which Im really liking. Ive gone back and forth through the series thinking he’ll turn good in the end or just be bad. Seems like the villain of the series now, but it was a good build up. I also just like when we are left to form our own theories for details that dont have a direct impact on the story (as opposed to having theories about plot details).

Just a nice, breezy show that has really surprised me.
Yeah...I think the biggest hints so far is the Qui Gon quote he said to Wim, & then the way he snapped for a second then caught himself when Fern said that leaving a man behind "wasn't the Jedi way".

If I had to speculate, he was a Padawan who was in the training circle of Jinn or possibly Dooku, possibly with some new Master who was either legit abandoned during Order 66, or FEELS like he was abandoned. Probably not, but as you said, the show makes it fun to speculate.

Saw this a short while ago, and ended up hunting down the books....

You may enjoy if you didn't already know all this.

It's all about the guy who basically created "Duck Tales"

And for giggles... my own discovery

Sorry if this is derailing...

Here's some thoughts on the last episode!

"Unclaimsy" moment was perfect. Great moment for Fern.

What a great kid-movie way out of that situation... and SM33 siding with her unclaimsing was great.

Show is great at hitting the kid vibe without annoying me as an adult.
Well, I cannot call that a derail because you handed me this amazing story that I had never known. That duck video is a hard-stop must watch. Thank you. And you brought it back well with how you closed the post. I am still buzzing about that story. Dang. Funny part was, my comment about the mouse being the face of the company was BEFORE watching the video.

This is what I love. We can speculate with a pretty good level of detail on his backstory due to some well placed hints, but not knowing for sure makes it kind of fun. Its a minor thing, but just something Im enjoying.

I just finished posting my very long monologue about Jude's belt buckle in the props thread:

But am going with Gray Jedi.

And this for sure is where I am today thinking his belt buckle looks like a balance scale holding opposing "forces" in balance, thus a Gray. The fan created Gray symbol is extremely similar but incorporates a saber in theirs. Which ties to Jinn being described as Gray and the quote from Jinn inserted already. It is either his buckle is worn upside down or it is intentionally reworked to be more scale and less sabre. Maybe he took of the little sabre bit.

I think Jod's backstory is more simple than connections to Jinn or others. I think he was simply a Youngling or Padawan who escaped and fell into the wrong crowd, kind of like young Boba Fett did. You can explain it all that simply.

I think Jod is too young to have gotten into "gray" Jedi politics and such.

Even simpler, he could be nothing more than someone like Broom Boy or Ezra, who never found the guidance he needed like Ezra finding Kanan.

So I agree, an official backstory for Jod isn't really necessary.

And anything he owns could simply be picked up along the way, not really representative of him.

I'm going to put the below in a spoiler tag just in case my facetiousness ends up being correct:

I'm really hoping the administrator of At Attin turns out to be the pirate captain and the pirate captain turns out to be Mace Windu. He could have a hook hand and everything!

For me, the big question before next Tuesday is: Why was Tak Rennod's face obscured? The voice actor is not mentioned in that episode's credits.

Surprise actor? Surprise character? Surprise species?

I was thinking it would turn out to be SM-33 himself. He's just layered the memory wipes to compartmentalize different things to keep his 'treasure' safe.

Maybe when he found the planet, he decided to stay to keep it for himself, thinking he could just outlive everyone there. Could've been an attempted mutiny that saw him take out the crew. Either way, now that Jod has seemingly been revealed as the secret enemy, it could be a neat swerve to have 33 as the secret hero.

Only other prediction I have-

The pirates will attack & Neel will save the day with the giant hidden cannon on top of the school that no one else knows about.

I think those are two really strong predictions, and I agree with both. The cannon was kind of an obvious "Chekov's Gun" that was too major and expensive just to show for a few seconds, so I'm especially 100% with you on that second prediction.

If you show a cannon, you must use the cannon. Not because of any story telling rule but just because the idea that your enemy believes you defenseless leaves the Hollywood ending possible. The infamous, "you brought this on yourself".

Yep, that's the "Chekov's Gun" trope. Same thing applies to the emergency armor detonation.
This one is like 50 percent of all bad guy endings. Everyone wants to save you from yourself and we don't even know how to save ourselves but given your insistence on continuing to harm the innocent, fate comes back and slaps you, hard. Sometimes, it even comes as the Agatha Christie surprise, without any foreshadowing (even though, in this instance, we definitely did get that).
