Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

The more that they show Vader performing his deeds, the more unredeemable he is as a character.

Post-ROTJ, he’s really become a sadistic mass murderer.

And this particular scene was probably the worst narrative mistake that George Lucas ever made…

There is no way to redeem a character who is a mass murderer of children.

Had Anakin survived ROTJ, he really should have been tried (and likely executed) for crimes against humanity. There is no “I was seduced by the Dark Side defense” that would hold-up.

Now I can forgive them slight logic flaws and inconsistencies. To be fair, the same criticism can be applied to OT as well.
But to me the biggest problem of the show(s) so far is the lack of classical music themes established in the OT and PT. Maybe they're saving it for later for bigger emotional impact. But omitting the themes in a situations where they should obviously fit, just seems weird and makes the scenes cheap and fan-film like. I don't know what the problem here honestly, but still enjoying the show nevertheless.

Look at this for example, I have a feeling if we saw something like this it would make the entire episode work better.

I recall seeing something that said Williams was intentionally avoiding all but hints to the classic melodies as a way to show this was previous to those.

He did some nasty things in the originals, but symbolically he represented a greater evil, far more than his actions in the films really showed. In that context I think his redemption as a character was far easier to accept than it was when you saw just how far down the path he wandered in the Prequels and later material. I know for some the redemption arc comes with it's own controversy but that often strays into a discussion about morality or ethics so I won't go into it. But suffice it to say, I agree with you that the more we see of Vader, the more his redemption is harder to believe. Then again, his efforts to rid the galaxy of the Emperor were completely undermined if you accept the current canon anyway, so what do I know?

I think it’s safe to say Vader is new age with his victim mentality and not wanting to take responsibility for his actions.Reva of course is entitled she is owed the top spot.

How did Reva and the lady helping Leia not cross paths in the tunnel,or was if full turns. As others have stated the Obi Vader fight was weak and I agree with some that it looked like a fan film. Is it me or are they really hinting at Leia using the force, she seems to read people really well.Did they redo the Imperial march theme when Reva was walking off the shuttle at the base?

Yeah, I would've preferred he not murder children especially with an heirloom weapon that the hero of the saga eventually carries.

My biggest pet peeve, and I'd hoped this show would avoid it but they doubled down on it, is lightsabers should not spark when they make contact. The sequels screwed that up, but I blame the video games as the source of that. The prequels at least got it right.

Surprised Vader not going through the fire bumps so much for people...

Like James pointed out... he's kinda had a few moments he just lets stuff go as if he wants to prolong the chase...

Obi was so wrecked and terrified I just read it as "yeah... you go think about what I just did. Seeya later."

I love this series thus far.

It's... kinda.... making the prequels.. kinda worth it...

Agh I said it.

Wife: They are kind of making Obi-Wan out to have become a loser like they did with Luke, huh?
Me: (sighs) Yes.

Wife: Wonder why?
Me: Maybe to retroactively justify their decision to do this to Luke in the ST, like "Look, it wasn't so bad that Luke lost all hope! OB1 did too! We'll show you!"

Wife: I don't like that.
Me: Me either.

Also, here were Leia's exact words in ANH to OB1: "General Kenobi. Years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire."

Those are not the opening words of a young woman under the impression that she actually KNEW and HAD HAD CONTACT WITH this person she's messaging.

But I have a theory: Hasn't OB1 consistently referred to himself as "Ben" throughout this show in Leia's presence, not "Obi-Wan"? The lady helping them in the last episode called him Obi-Wan, but out of earshot of Leia. And Leia has also never heard his last name spoken either, at least I don't think she has.

So is it possible that when adult Leia sends a message to "General/Obi-Wan Kenobi," she doesn't even realize that she's entreating the same "Ben" that rescued her when she was 10???
