Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

Well, two things...

First, there's NO WAY this is their only fight.

Second, I didn't catch this, but I did notice that the scene where the 'loading Droid' had the hammer behind it's back, it looked like it was wearing armor. Watching a breakdown, the commentator thinks this could be Wrecker from the Bad Batch in disguise. Anyone else catch this?

This whole moment is great…

Canon be damned… this is the Ewan version of the Obi-verse and I’m liking the story thus far.

If there was ever a time Duel of the Fates could have made a scene better, that was it. Why are they only using it in trailers and tv spots?

The point that Vader doesn't always pursue his "prey" in the films and the comics etc. is a very viable reason for him to let Kenobi escape.

But perhaps Vader didn't actually let him go which is what I'm hoping for because it would make a bit more sense. The problem with that is it would make another duel between them possible. Now that I think about it another rematch is very likely because the first seemed to be within semi reasonable boundaries. We all know the tendency for extreme over the top fan service. :(

Vader is a cruel emissary of death. He could likely do far worse than burning someone alive as horrific as it is. I found that to be very disturbing but not out of place for that reason and because of the much more horrific burning in ROTS.

Yeah, the whole way that scene wrapped with the fire didn't make sense to me, but frankly I've seen weirder and more nonsensical stuff in Star Wars so I'm inclined to it go.

Now I can forgive them slight logic flaws and inconsistencies. To be fair, the same criticism can be applied to OT as well.
But to me the biggest problem of the show(s) so far is the lack of classical music themes established in the OT and PT. Maybe they're saving it for later for bigger emotional impact. But omitting the themes in a situations where they should obviously fit, just seems weird and makes the scenes cheap and fan-film like. I don't know what the problem here honestly, but still enjoying the show nevertheless.

Look at this for example, I have a feeling if we saw something like this it would make the entire episode work better.

You know who sucks at protecting their own kid? Bail Organa.

You'd think that being high profile royalty and a senator would make you have round the clock security. Combine that with the fact that Leia is the daughter of Anakin Skywalker and you're asking for people to abduct her. So Bail can't protect his own child and then pulls Obi-Wan away from Luke. So now Leia is abducted and Luke is vulnerable. What are they thinking? The whole point of splitting the kids up in the first place is to lessen the chances of them both being captured, and to take suspicion away from the Empire investigating further into Anakin's potential offspring.

Plus how is it that everyone BUT Vader is able to detect the identity of these two kids? Vader learns about Luke between ANH and ESB. He doesn't know about Leia until the climax of ROTJ. Is he really that dense?

That was the wrong activation sound for Vader's saber.
The series of shots gradually revealing him when he's on the planet (back of robe, feet, etc) was cool, but it was undercut by the fact that we'd already seen him quite plainly and in full earlier in the episode. This reveal would have been much more effective if we had only seen him, say, from the rear and in holographic form earlier on.
Overall liking it though.

Do the lightsabers feel a bit 'off' to anyone else in these TV shows? Don't know if it's the prop they use but sometimes they seem a bit dim, not necessarily in Kenobi ep 3 because it was night but I'm thinking some of the shots in the Mando S3 finale. Also the activation sounds are changed and it doesn't match. Just me?

I especially hope they don't do the super cheesy "battle damaged" Vader strip tease (ala The Force Unleashed and Rebels) where his life support suit apparently serves no purpose as Vader continues to fight on when he should probably be strangling to death.

This is always weird to me and I understand it's for dramatic purposes, but it really kills the whole "iron lung" aspect that has been a staple of the character since its inception. He literally can't live without the suit, Luke says it in RotJ even after Vader gets short-circuited by Palpatine. Before anyone jumps up my butt, "Well, it was because Palpatine shocked him and his suit electrics failed because the insulation padding by Chumwort Bixby was skimped on, as explained in the EU comics and novels, that he died," while it was a part of him being wounded, it was ultimately him without his helmet that killed him, hence the line, "Nothing can stop it now."

What's almost worse is when he removes his helmet himself! I can't even accurately recount all the times I've seen him in apocryphal media since RotJ with Vader deliberately removing his own helmet.

I havent looked forward to something Star Wars so much since Mandalorian. BOBF made me want to gouge out my eyes with a teaspoon but this is fantastic.

So I've watched the episode twice now and while it does have some scenes that made me raise an eyebrow, I enjoyed it!

I loved how they gave Obi's saber that ANH saber sound! The vintage whooshing sound when he was swinging it back and forth looking for Vader was like music to my ears! Also, did they use the same AI generated voice tech for Luke on Vader? It definitely didn't sound like the aged James Earl Jones performance we got in Rogue One.

On the subject about he practical lit saber blades.
I don't think they are the cause for the sort of slow-mo fight we got between Obi-Wan and Vader in yesterdays episode. Look at the bts footage of the fight between Finn and Kylo from TFA, Adam Driver was really whaling on Boyega's blade and vise versa and that translated into the final cut. I don't think they are having the actors fight less hard to preserve the blades.
