Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

If people are having problems with canon and these stories now, in another 20 years they're gonna be absolutely lost...

Did no one grow up reading comics? Continuous stories don't work. Canon is gonna crash hard eventually.

I remember in the old days watching Trek people rip apart stuff and thinking "oh who cares... just enjoy it... it's episodic stories in space... it's not real - it doesn't have to make perfect sense"

They destroyed canon in Jedi... the third movie... right out the gate with Leia being his sister who he straight up macked on.

It's TRADITION at this point!

"yo Leia, you knew mom... I didn't... what was she like?"

*Leia pulls tongue out of Luke's mouth*

"She died when I was very young... like 1 hour old... I do remember her sobbing a lot about our dad murdering kids...."

"Okay I'mma go wave to his clean-slate ghost"

I still remember wondering how it could possibly make sense in the PT for 3PO to be Anakin's droid, and remember groaning at the throwaway line where Bail Organa says to wipe 3PO's memory at the end of the PT...I wonder if there will be similar half-hearted attempts to address continuity concerns with OB1.

It was Zach Braff from SCRUBS. I thought it was Seth Rogan. Lol

Hey I did too... and I literally spent 3 straight years in the same room as him, cutting his voice...

"oh hey, Rogen did a voice... doesn't seem like a character he would want to do... must be a favor for the director or something..."

I'm still not positive it wasn't!... so weird. Someone mess with the credits?!?! Watching that makes me question all of life.

Canon wouldn't be an issue if they stayed away from the core saga characters and they developed their own creations better. Mandalorian was a step in the right direction in that regard. I'm in agreement with you that a continuous story with the same known and beloved characters don't work long term and honestly most of what's come since Jedi has been just putting them all through similar scenarios at different ages and in different locations.

Hopefully Lucasfilm understands that they have to move away from the known and take some risks with their own creations. The latest Vanity Fair piece seems to suggest they have some idea of this concept. I know they have a slew of content coming so maybe that will offer up fresh material that doesn't have to rely so much on the familiar.

Also, here were Leia's exact words in ANH to OB1: "General Kenobi. Years ago you served my father in the Clone Wars. Now he begs you to help him in his struggle against the Empire."

Those are not the opening words of a young woman under the impression that she actually KNEW and HAD HAD CONTACT WITH this person she's messaging.

But I have a theory: Hasn't OB1 consistently referred to himself as "Ben" throughout this show in Leia's presence, not "Obi-Wan"? The lady helping them in the last episode called him Obi-Wan, but out of earshot of Leia. And Leia has also never heard his last name spoken either, at least I don't think she has.

So is it possible that when adult Leia sends a message to "General/Obi-Wan Kenobi," she doesn't even realize that she's entreating the same "Ben" that rescued her when she was 10???
Luke: “I’m Luke Skywalker. I’m here to rescue you”
Liea: “you’re who?”
Luke: “I’m here to rescue you. I’ve got your R2 unit, I’m here with Ben Kenobi”
Leia: “Ben Kenobi, where is he?”

Sounds to me like she knows him.

This dialog does indeed show that she's aware that "Ben Kenobi" is "Obi-Wan Kenobi." But I'm not sure how it shows that she knew him prior to her sending him the message via R2. That message still, to me, sounds as if she's appealing to someone she understood to be a past ally of her father, and not someone she met personally before.

Yeah. Agreed. It’s one of the many plot holes/inconsistencies created by this show.

I don't care about this nitpicking canon, but someone did mention something that plays for me...

that Leia IS a political figure, sending a message that could be intercepted, and much like any political figure (her mother for example) could be putting on an appropriate political voice...

Thus knowing his name is Ben, (Ben Kenobi? where is he?) and referring to him in the message as "General Kenobi"

She gives no mention she's about to be killed or taken as a political prisoner... no "Ben Kenobi, I hope this gets to you! We have plans here that need to get to my father! I'm putting it in this droid... at least if he breaks I know you can fix him! LOL, Wink wink! REMEMBER?!"

Of course she should care more for when he dies... but even her barely caring when he did was off for me in the OT before this.

I need this to be a knock out of the park, I’m hanging back and see if the seemingly mixed reviews so far improve. My buddy is so so on it so far.

Does "Ben" ever tell Leia his last name? Perhaps Leia thinks "Obi-wan Kenobi" is a different person who "served her father in the clone wars". Maybe she doesn't put it all together until Luke says, "...I’m here with Ben Kenobi”. In that moment she realizes that "Ben" from her childhood must be the same person as Obi-wan Kenobi. Just a thought.

Comment 1999! You win, dude! Phantom Menace year represent!

If there was ever a time Duel of the Fates could have made a scene better, that was it. Why are they only using it in trailers and tv spots?

I could see a "wispy" version, but COME ONNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNNnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn, where in the H*LL is the IMPERIAL MARCH theme? Don'cha thinnk that would have made the pan up to the helmet as he's walking down the village's street a little more memorable?
