Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

Now I can forgive them slight logic flaws and inconsistencies. To be fair, the same criticism can be applied to OT as well.
But to me the biggest problem of the show(s) so far is the lack of classical music themes established in the OT and PT. Maybe they're saving it for later for bigger emotional impact. But omitting the themes in a situations where they should obviously fit, just seems weird and makes the scenes cheap and fan-film like. I don't know what the problem here honestly, but still enjoying the show nevertheless.

Look at this for example, I have a feeling if we saw something like this it would make the entire episode work better.

nowwwww THAT'S a bantha ton better!!!!!

The more that they show Vader performing his deeds, the more unredeemable he is as a character.

Post-ROTJ, he’s really become a sadistic mass murderer.

And this was probably the worst narrative mistake that George Lucas ever made…

There is no way to redeem a character who is a mass murderer of children.

Had Anakin survived ROTJ, he really should have been tried (and likely executed) for crimes against humanity. There is no “I was seduced by the Dark Side defense” that would hold-up.
I agree but George had already done that before ROTS...He did it in ANH when, under Vaders watch, Moff Tarkan destroyed Alderaan. Blowing up millions, including innocent women and children was the 3rd time( if the movies came out in sequence). Anakin killed the tusken raider kids, the Padawan younglings and graduated to Vader and blew up a whole planet. Way before the PT came out we all knew how bad he was...no surprise to me, but Luke still saw the good in him. Anyone can have a change of heart and yet still understand that they have to pay the price for what they did, even meaning by death. If we are going to say Vader is not redeemable then we are saying everything that Luke did was in vain. But anyway, he was already a mass murderer Pre-ROTJ.

Likely they would owe royalties to John Williams for the use of his themes. Every show has a budget, even Disney Star Wars
I can't imagine this is actually a consideration. It would be the biggest no-brainer, cake walk of a decision to lean on the nostalgic themes early in the series. I agree, I want to hear them and think that even a new arrangement would benefit the show, but artists are a prickly bunch and have a tendency not to want to do the same thing over and over again.

Artists of any stripe typically want to do something new and different, and therein lies the rub. It's a tricky line to walk. People like the old stuff, but they want new and different too. Do new things, but don't change it too much. Crank up the sequel machine, Hollywood! But do it new and different!

It was the same thing in Clone Wars and Rebels. To varying degrees they would use the old themes as touchstones, but more often would write new music. I really think it's one of those things where you can't keep everyone happy, between the suits and the artists and the fans. I would be content to have the old music recycled more often, myself, because there's so much of it that is SO good, but I feel like using it sparingly is also a good way to get an emotional response from us old fans if done well.

Whether it's rights or royalties or whatever, all of the series, all the way back to Clone Wars, have avoided using Williams music. They even resort to re-orchestrating music to be "just different enough, but an awful lot like" stuff of his. Especially in Rebels.

What I like about discussing tv/movies with people is the idea that issues you may have had will either go away or become more apparent. In the case of episode 3, most of my major concerns have subsided. I now more understand that it is completely within Vader's character to let Kenobi go instead of extinguishing the flames again. Stuff like that is always shown in Star Wars and I find it funny I didn't get that when I saw it.

What still bothers me was the production quality behind the episode, but other than that, I like the episode now.

You guys are acting like this was THE showdown. This was just a taste, for the sure the main course will be in the final episode. And I’m willing to bet that’s when they break out the classic musical cues.
Oh, I agree. As a matter of fact, I believe Vader will be bringing his boom box of the best John Williams tunes to the final battle; a battle that will be decided by who can harness the awesome, colossal, powers of The Force to drop the dopest of dance moves…

No they did not destroy canon in Jedi..Luke and Leia did not know they were siblings in ESB and Leia kissed Luke to make Han jealous.
Okay fine

They contradicted old story points to serve an new story points making people go… “wait… but…”

which is no different than they’re doing now.

Cuz George did not intend Leia to be his sister. Straightt up.

And pretending he did is madness. This stuff is based on serials he watched as a kid… serials that ignored previous info just to make the current more entertaining.

Please don’t pretend that even in Empire that was rhe decision, or George is weird AF.

Regardless, by the prequels George didn’t care at all about canon… so everyone can just chill.

Also… luke actually has to reply “from a certain point of view!?” To Ben to excuse his lines from ANH

SO just pretend with everything in this, Ben is asks vader “ later you say you were the learner and now are the master…?”

And VAder goes

“Form a certain point of view!”

Solved

I’m 4 drinks in at a bar for my GF birthday and talking Kenobi… clearly a good show!

I have an easier time accepting changes that Lucas made to canon in the PT than anything Disney has done. Disney doesn't seem to have anything but profit and putting it's own fingerprints on everything in mind. I don't see them as having the right to mess with canon, history or spirit that Lucas created and was long standing before they bought Lucasfilm. Canon changes that were made in the OT/PT seem more like plot twists than retcons. I'm sure some disagree and thats fine.

*Edited as it was necessary.

I feel people only see this as a corporation decision thing… And fair.., I’m around a lot of terrible decision making suits…

But there is also a lot… A LOT… of US in these decisions making as well… just for some reason that’s ignored and everyone just picture money hungry suits…

Favreau isn’t a suit… and he’s made great and terrible decisions

Content and how much and how saturated? Disney…

Creative? You’d be surprised at the love and nerdity….

Anyway I’m drunk in a toilet with x-rays on the wall…. I dunno what’s happening.

You might actually be in a hospital, dude. Just sayin'.

I will say I'm happy that they went with ANH style gloves on Vader. Something about the horizontal lines that does it for me on that suit.

I don't know about that. Kevin Kiner did some music for The Clone Wars that was not in the Williams style. But he still would pull fragments of the Williams themes when it was called for. Not much, but little bits. This is one of my favorite examples.

That episode was okay. I have no real complaints about the story. It just felt like it was lacking in execution. I felt like the lightsabers were over-saturated or something. They just felt off. I don't think it was them casting light because I kinda dig that. And Vade illuminated by his lightsaber looks bad a** in Rogue One, Battlefront 1 and 2, and Jedi Fallen Order......but here....meh.
