Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

I had unpleasant OT vibes during the space chase scene.

I mean, one small ship evading a Star Destroyer with canons firing and the only thing keeping the small space ship from being destroyed are the rear shields and some fancy flying? They expect us to believe that? Especially after they tried to fool us with the exact same scene twice in ESB with the Falcon escaping Hoth and again when the Falcon is escaping the asteroid field.
You a professional troll or is it just a hobby?

IIRC they show Ben riding off after meeting Luke in an open desert, then it cuts to show Ben riding with the canyon ahead of him. The scenes are not cut as a though-line, it's possible Ben rode for hours away from the Lars homestead before he comes up on the canyon.
Ben was shown twice watching the homestead from the rocks. Wide shots show the canyon and the homestead within view of each other. And in this one a 10-year-old boy is able to run from the homestead to the canyon.

I almost forgot about this, but I have to applaud Joel Edgerton & Bonnie Piesse for taking 2 lines of dialogue &, in my mind, act it in a way that actually gave a TON of character development.

When Owen tells her that they're in danger & that Ben is gone, she responds with something like "& who's fault is that?". You see on Owen's face that he knows that in his desire to protect Luke, he's made his entire family more vulnerable.

To me, that one exchange told me so much about their marriage, how she loves & respects him in his decisions, but will absolutely call him out when she feels that he's wrong, & for as gruff & grumpy as Owen seems, he recognizes the wisdom. She got her point across without belittling him or insulting his ability to lead.

I loved it & felt it grew the characters immensely.

None of the OT starship chases were depicted as lasting as long as this one did. Not out in the open. Asteroids complicate things.

Anyway, I don't know why snark needs to be a part of raising counterpoints.

I'm 100% serious. I've never understood how the Falcon was able to escape the Star Destroyer in those scenes except for Plot Armor.

I'm sorry, are you saying my feelings and opinions on scenes from the OT are not valid? I though everyone's opinions were respected here, especially after I was agreeing with you.

Hey, whatever, I guess I'm just a punching bag for some of you. It's all good.

You are correct about those rocks, I forgot about that from EP1. Maybe Ben's binoculars are really strong?

I wasn't paying that much attention, but have we ever seen the Lars Homestead from a 360° view?

I was thinking we always see it where the suns set would be behind it, so I thought the canyon would've been behind us with that view.

Could be wrong though.

Not at all, I just perceived a tone that I guess was not intended. All good.

I really enjoyed the scenes with Owen and Beru quite a bit. I thought both actors performed extremely well and it was nice to see Beru showing courage. I said "thats awesome!" out loud when she pulled out the rifles. Was cool to see more of the "homestead. Young Luke was also done very well and am so glad they didn't go over the top with him. Leaving what was said between Obi-Wan and Luke ambiguous was a great move.

Ben broke the left side of Vader's mask.

Ahsoka broke the right side of Vader's mask.

But it took Luke to remove it completely.

I felt this joke was implied, and was really hoping he wouldnt actually say it lol.

Overall i think they stuck the landing.
Not to make a mountain out of a mole hill...just to make one small point. If one small scene in a show can induce a thought well enough for everyone to "get it" without it having to be said then wouldn't the whole OT tell a story well enough for everyone to "get it" without the kenobi show attempting to spell it out? Just a thought. My greatest take away was that my son liked it a lot and it induced memories of the past and i love seeing my son being a happy and full of wonder....both my son and i said the line audibly almost at the same time and my son laughed, and i was astonished he got it that quickly...lol

I'm glad this episode went in the direction it did in more ways than expected. Didn't save the series for me but I think it was the best episode.

Some more thoughts...

I enjoyed the duel in a lot of ways and I'm very glad that they didn't retcon the outcome of ROTS like I assumed (they don't exactly have the best history of making good decisions especially in terms of retcons). Quite happy to be wrong.

The gripe I have with choosing to leave him alive again is it's kind of a selfish and irresponsible move in a sense. It's basically letting Vader continue to commit atrocities on a massive scale for the Empire. Put the safety of others above your own needs, but then we wouldn't have ANH. Which is again why bringing them together is not a good idea to begin with.

Vader walking off thinking he's the victor when Kenobi was buried under rocks really showed his blind arrogance which fits his character. Not the most intelligent move but he is still blinded by rage and possibly running because he senses Kenobi's superiority.

The helmet half cut was cliche but still cool image with Hayden behind it. I wish they had made his voice more of a mixture of Vader and Anakin after the helmet damage. He spoke quite well without amplification for someone whose lungs/esophagus were badly damaged.

I agree that was Moses Ingram's best performance. I liked that she carried Luke back and didn't just leave him there or drop him off hobbling off into the darkness. I don't buy the fact that Reva is now entirely "free" spirtually. Realizing the error of one's ways and letting go of a lifelong revenge quest is just the beginning. If she wants to make herself truly "free" she has to work to forgive herself and be forgiven by others through her actions.
