Star Wars Obi-Wan Kenobi (tv series)

That episode hit all the notes I needed to wrap this thing up. I had a lot of fun with it, and feel like it fits right into canon without too many ripples. Like others mentioned, the timing on the classic themes just got me all watery eyed. I'm such a sucker.

I enjoyed the hell out of the fight scene, and I feel like it's better than any of the ones in the ST, excepting maybe the TLJ red room fight. This one had a lot more pathos going into it, and it finishes exactly the way it needed to in order to set things up for Vader and Obi Wan's meeting on the Death Star.

My only gripe, and it's a thin one, is the epic scale use of the force. Like, I get it. It's not 1977 anymore, we can do crazy **** now. But It feels a little like "well, why didn't we see this in the OT?" I recognize all of the reasons why, the tech wasn't there, the brand hadn't evolved to a place where flinging dozens of boulders with the force was even an inkling yet, etc. I just might have been a little more sparing with it. That said, it reminded me very much of the scene in empire where Vader is pelting Luke with random bits of hardware and debris on Bespin, just dialed up a few notches.

All told, I'm pretty happy with how it ended up.

As an intellectual exercise i decided to have a conversation with my 6yr old...lol
To get into a childs head , not to push my viewpoints on Kenobi but just to see how he views it.

Here is how it went: Enjoy

me: Isaac, do you think Obi-wan should be with Luke or Leia?
Isaac: definitely Leia!!
me: Well who is going to watch Luke then?
Isaac: His Aunt and Uncle
me: So you think they can protect Luke better than Obi wan?
Isaac: They must have blasters or something
me: What if they don't?
Isaac: Then they can order a lightsaber on ebay or something

I just got mic dropped!!

Me: They are hunting Obi-wan, don't you think that puts Leia in danger?
Isaac: Dad, he's a Jedi!
Me: Yes, he is Isaac...Yes he is.

...That concludes our message, we will now return to your local scheduled programming
Well...Just watched it and...My son was more right than i was in his assessment of what he thought might happen...lol.(all the way back on post #2,706 pg.136 of this thread)

I have technical questions and writing questions all over the place and my OT brain is asking, like what are they now gonna add Qui-gon as a force ghost at the end of ROTJ in some weird redo? And Kenobi lifting rocks is an homage to Rey? I honestly thought she'd end up being written as a Kenobi anyway...I agree with a majority of what Usagi Pilgrim wrote in his review so i won't bore you with more of the same except to say this...
My son reminded me so much of myself throughout the whole series. I sat and just watched him react, being so young and naive to a lot which admittedly, so am i even at my age. At the end of the episode he turns to me and goes" What???That's it?...why can't we see some more?" and already having tears run down my face from some of the exchanges between the characters, that comment had me sobbing. In an instant i was time warped back to when i was his age as a child filled with wonder and hope just wanting more of Star Wars. Maybe i'm getting more soft( like Boba...lol) at an older age. I'm still tearing over this as i write...they had to use those 2 kids to tug at my heart...lol, and that exchange between OBI and Anakin/Vader really got me.

This was Moses' best performance...This was Ewan' best as well...hat's off and standing ovation for Joel Edgerton...he really was the star for me in this episode. I know i'm pathetic but i honestly felt like i just wanted to hug all the actors and actresses for giving their best even though i'm at great odds with the writing but the question remains...if Disney called me and gave me a chance to write, act, direct...etc. (If being qualified to do so) for anything Star Wars would i accept? You're flippin' right i would. I wouldn't like being told by Disney what to do if it contradicted my own thoughts but who would? But if i accepted i'd have to accept that part as well.

Finally, I really came into this with an open mind and i wanted to "feel" something other than disappointment, irritation and "what might have been" and even though shades of those emotions were felt, the intimate exchanges "Finally" carried some weight for me as the tears keep rollin down my smiling cheeks as i watch my son play around with a lightsaber in hand, whooshing sounds and all, as he most assuredly is creating some make believe moments in his mind or acting out what he just saw like we all did 45 years ago.

Seeing this fight makes it more clear why Vader was so cautious for their duel in ANH. While the ANH duel might make more sense if it was closer to the 'scene 38 reimagined' than how it plays out in ANH, I feel like any intelligent person will know that the last time Vader fought Obi-Wan he had his a** handed to him and Vader is definitely feeling out Kenobi.

It really does make that duel read differently. They're both several years older, and Vader would be understandably more wary of a balls out assault, after the way Obi Wan manhandled him when he got too overconfident.

All the dialogue in that scene just hit for me. It was like a payoff I didn't know I'd been waiting for since 2005.

That's how I've always interpreted it.

I'm guessing Vader must have at least a couple of extra helmets sitting around for when his current one gets chopped up a bit and this can explain why at different times the helmets look different. I'm wondering how long it is going to take for the chopped version to show up in the junkyard.

I may have missed it but was it ever made clear that Reva knew Leia and Luke were Anakin's kids or just that they were important somehow?
I think it's implied she knew...the best way in her mind to pay back Anakin for what he did by killing someone else's kids is to take out his...especially, knowing she couldn't defeat Vader herself...she just couldn't bring herself to do it.

Thanks

It couldn't possibly hurt Anakin if Reva killed Luke or Leia. He doesn't even know they exist, much less that they're his kids.

Plus how would Luke not recall some lady in a dark cloak with a red sword coming to kill him in the middle of the night and then a decade later having no clue what a lightsaber was?

It does sadden me quite a bit that a supposedly, kid friendly show, has a lot of kid related death shown or implied and in my view is a horrendous decision...they could have gone in any direction including not make this but they chose a pretty dark path i must say.

Honestly, she doesn't know He doesn't know and they tried to show Luke was escaped out before he saw her with saber in hand...I'm not defending it , just an observation
