Star Wars Launch Bay Opens @ Disneyland

One thing that was a little annoying was that many of the collectibles for sale in the Launch Bay Gift Shop were being sold at higher than retail list prices. The Anovos First Order Storm Trooper helmets were $280 (plus shipping), list is $249. The Sideshow Tauntaun was $399, list is $349, etc.

Maybe they didn't have receptacles for them at the venue.

My brother stopped by the exhibit last week he was very impressed with the models. Especially the star destroyer, slave I, and blockade runner. I can't imagine the hard work that went into producing all of these models within the short time period given. Especially with the level of detail applied to them.

Don't know everyone involved, but it's impressive. Especially since they are so accurate. Great job to all involved.

How could he be impressed with the Star Destroyer ?! :D It's the ANH one, the original Is not a lot (and poorly) detailled and the replica is missing half of the parts if not more ! Mainly blank side walls, when I saw the pics I thought it was not even painted !

I reckon the BR looks nice but this is just the opinion of a casual guy who never studied the original so it could be innacurate I would not notice it.

Unfortunatly the Slave seems to be the good old (and wrong) upscaled finemolds hull made by REL from the 3D printed hull Allan commissioned years ago. :(

A good S1 has still to be done. :( But considering the amount of time they had, shortcuts had to be done and the results are good enough for casual people.

Julien,

My brother isn't into studio scale modeling and is a casual observer. He thinks I'm crazy every time he goes into my basement and sees the number of models I have squireled away in there. Let alone the scratchbuilds or kits I am making.

Like 99% of the population if it looks like the Slave I or a Star Destroyer then its cool. He doesn't know that the Slave I hull is symmetrical and shouldn't be. I guess it all depends on the perspective of the viewer. You and I would see what kit parts are wrong while he sees the Slave I and Star Destroyer.

I haven't seen too much of the Blockade Runner replicas and am just as curious about where they came from.

If they were my models, I'd have use a more subdued color for the red markings to better resemble the color they used on the original, which was not a primary red shade, IMO.

The important thing is that Disney are happy and as they are on display then it's job done , I'm sure they think it can't be done better and have been told so many times during the process!

One of The differences between profit and none profit is Quality

I'm still hoping steve kits the Slave, as had said many times to me he has a upscaled and reworked hull , I guess he wanted to use the old stuff for the big job at hand so he can use the better stuff for nice n models . Can't wait to see it with its upgraded hull but a shame he didn't use them in this as would've made for a much better final result!!

Confusing but am sure there's some logic in there?

Now that he's busier working for eFX and Disney, does he still have time left over for Nice-N?

Can he even still sell Star Wars models on the side considering whatever contracts and NDAs he's had to sign for each company?

He didn't have time for kits without Disney and EFX , ethics have never been a strong point either so probably all systems go !!

He'll likely offer them their own products to seal the deals

Or like he did with me, offer me imaginary products to get the job done !!

I'll stick to the models at Disney vice someone's house. Much easier to get to and publically available for large audiences...lol.

The tours are all overseas so this is the closest to the originals that are available to the masses instead of what is in someone's living room or basement that would also be inaccurate to the originals no matter how hard anyone tries to replicate them.

The models are just too complex to get completely accurate. I love seeing the scratch builds though. Inspires me to get working on my half finished builds.

As for the paint color, maybe they were going for the ROTJ version? My brother mentioned that they had a Star Wars poster (I asked him to look) in the blockade runner cockpit and not a centerfold so maybe they were going for the touring version instead of the ANH version. Also could be Disney doesn't want a Playboy pinup in one of their displays...lol. Didn't they ban slave leia?

I'll make my way down to Florida at some point. Went last year so I missed all the cool Star Wars stuff. Pretty excited to see the painted models in person and have the kids meet Chewbacca and Darth Vader. Especially after the new movies come out.

i think the Paris version at Julian's place is nicer

Did you not complete the slave then, I was under the impression it was still your baby up there, maybe you can shed some light on the aforementioned upgraded and enlarged hulls steve told me he'd done, it's a shame they never got used in any way on this one here. I'd of thought going through all that trouble that this would've made a great opportunity to use them.

It's quite personal to me this subject as the upgraded hulls were used as leverage by steve to gain info for the build you'd been working on?

Julian's place is very accessible as he doesn't know I took his spare doors keys last time I was there :)

I wish I had made the Disney Slave I. Unfortunately I didn't. Well beyond my skill set and available hobby time.

Well you'd already done a great job on the wings and wells, it's a shame you never got to see it through to the end.

I guess steve never gave his über upgrade to whom ever finished. It

Nice to see Allan's parts in paint at last though

Just eats you up doesn't it Guy...:popcorn Do you just sit around and stew over NMD constantly? That's sad. Why don't you build your super ACCURATE Slave 1 you keep babbling on about? Then you and Jillian can bedazzle one another with it during your next sleep over. You have the house keys after all... :rolleyes

You guys are so utterly clueless... Just reading Guy's posts phishing for info as who used what from whom is amusing. They weren't made for a couple/few ******* rivet counters who can do nothing but hate on Steve and everything he does. They were made for the 10's of thousands of fans who visit the parks every day. Guess what? They are being enjoyed as they were intended to be. Hey Jillian when NMD does the Paris exhibit maybe you can carry some crates?

Isel appreciate your positive posts! It was great to see you if only for a short time. We too are planning a trip to the Orlando exhibit.

Like most zits, you apply enough pressure and the puss comes out.....

Stewing eh, dont flatter yourself, I'm more keen to see how much lies was spun my way by steve over Slave, things you weren't involved in nor part of?

As he has proudly displayed his Slave then I'm talking about it. In an Open Carry kind of way!!!

As your brain doesn't work on all adult levels your ability to see through words to there true meaning is somewhat hampered, if you read my words as implied you'd see them for what they mean. it suits you to be on your high moral ground but this discussion of things slave 1 goes deeper than your limited human emotion spectrum of anger and confusion

If you would like to see amusing would you like me to post steve's emails regarding his and my Slave 1 dealings to help you understand the lies and deceit involved in trying to create his model?

Would that help you? :popcorn

Is it amusing for you to see people being conned by lies to help the team achieve? Your failure again to see that honesty is important in this forum is again another way of you showing who you really are.

He's not the messiah, he's a very naughty boy !!

Not sure why you just attacked Julian again though!! Are you ok Jamie? I worry about you from time to time x

For the record I don't hate steve and everything he does, he does some great things, I just hate the ones that involve me directly and find it amusing that his sainthood is lorded when I have clear first hand evidence of his not so saintly side .

So I'll ask you again are you inviting me to display this so people/you can better understand ?
