Star Wars films to get 3D re-release starting in 2012

I know... really. I'm all for this, but why start with Episode I? I'm pretty sure the first one they worked on was A New Hope. So since that's almost or completely done, why not go with that?

I'm not a prequel or SE hater. Now, yes there are things I would have done differently... but I pretty much find Episode I unwatchable. I can enjoy the other two prequels and all of the OT (yes the SE's too). Just starting with this one sounds like a bad business decision. I'll pretty upset if it kills my chances of seeing the others.
 
"George this, George that, they suckered me before, blah, blah, blah." Yeah, sure, you absolutely, positively won't see Star Wars on the big screen! Your balls are tingling now at the very thought of it.

The prequels, okay, maybe, totally different animals, but the OT??? "May The Force Be With You;" "Do or do not, there is no try;" "I am your father!" You won't pop for that on THE BIG SCREEN? Cut the crap, you know you will.

The effects sequences alone will be worth it. Come on people the Death Star trench was begging for 3D from day one.
 
With these new changes and the addition of 3D, the saga will finally fit George's vision, all the pieces will be in place.

The Mayans fortold this and THAT's why their calendar ends in 2012.

I seem to remember when ROTS wrapped up, Lucas saying that he was glad he could now move on to doing smaller, independent films. Guess that didn't work out... I want to see Star Wars converted to 3D about as much as I want to see Schindler's List converted to color.....which is not at all. (...and I don't want to see TPM in any ANY dimensions...)

I will say however that I'm pretty much beyond caring what Lucas does to the films at this point. He's already screwed the "Saga" up beyond repair. To be honest I wouldn't be the least bit surprised if I read that he was going to remake Star Wars from scratch with Shia LaBeouf as Luke. He owns them, he can do what he wants to them. I just wish he would make the original versions available to those who care about the preservation cinematic history.

I certainly don't go anymore unles i'm super desperate to see a movie.
Cinemas are awful why wouldn't i want to be far more comfortable kicking back on my couch watching at home in peace ?
Modern tv and sound systems are more than up for the job.
 
I really enjoy going to the theater, actually. Gets me out of the house, around other people (who, I admit, sometimes annoy), a little junk food...it's social. It's fun.
 
Well i'll be going, not so fussed on the prequals, but you just know while there tinkering with the 3d, lucas will be adding new stuff to the movies, for me its any chance to see the OT in a theatre

How can it be social unless you're one of those annoying people who chat all the way through a movie :lol
Call me weird i just prefer to socialise in places where you actually chat and engage with people not just sit in the same dark room watching a screen.

Then again you're American you people actually applaud after a movie, i have no clue who you're applauding is it the projectionist ? :lol

Totally agree.
I used to be a Projectionist for 8 years and the best part of the job was watching films on the big screen on your own.

I hate going to the cinema now. Too much talking and rustling of sweet wrappers and drinks going slurp and anuses dropping stuff.......it's too annoying and stressful.....on top of that, you have to pay for the privelidge.....

I would never DREAM of talking in a movie. But you get together with friends, maybe hang out before and after...that's all I meant. Besides, there's just an atmosphere I like. Usually. Sometimes people are rude and spoil it. I used to manage a theater/run the projector so perhaps there's a nostalgia factor there as well.

My high school has a projector and full screen in the auditorium, so sometimes I can do "private viewings." Seeing Seven Samurai, Apocalypse Now, Blade Runner, the Good the Bad and the Ugly, etc. on the big screen was amazing :)

Of course the social experience of the cinema has little to nothing to do with talking. It's about a shared experience. There's an energy. When the whole audience is really "with" the movie, you can feel the vibe. It's exciting. It's fun.

While it may not have the same interactivity or intimacy as a night of live theatre, it's still a communal experience. THAT'S what people are applauding. Their shared appreciation of what they just watched.

I love going to midnight showings, just for that. Everyone's excited. There's an anticipation. (Presumably they wouldn't be there at midnight if there wasn't some measure of optimism about what they were about to watch.)

That's why it's so upsetting for me when someone ruins that by being inconsiderate.

Went to the movies with my wife the other day, and I was shocked that someone in front of me had turned on their iphone during the movie. I leaned over and was even more shocked when I realized it was an 80+ year old woman. I've been in Florida just over two years, I should be used to it, but it just gives a new perspective when people complain about "kids" on their cell phones.

(My wife pointed out to me that it wasn't just that woman. The entire row -- a single party I think -- was checking their phones the entire time.)

I used to enjoy the social aspect of going to movies, but the last one I saw kinda ruined that for me. The cinema didn't fully turn off the house lights and I had a ceiling light shining in my eyes the whole time. Someone in front spent half the film checking their phone (silent, at least) and the bright screen out the corner of my eye was distracting. Add to that my bad hip/back and the lack of legroom, and I'd much rather watch a film with friends at home than a cinema. At least nowdays we have TV screens big enough for this.
