Star Wars films to get 3D re-release starting in 2012

I've hate movies that were not shot in 3D when they try to make them 3D. It never works.

Poor choice. Nobody wants to see Jar-Jar in 3D... unless it's a video game where you get to kill him.

Hey! How come noone has done that yet?
They sort of did it in The Force Unleashed you can't destroy him, but it is implied as the moron always looks like that when yelling and a couple of reviews I read in magazines said it was "Jar-Jar's bad ending" Similar to Banjo's bad ending in Concur, bad fur day where his head is mounted above a fire place and Kazooie is in an umbrella rack:

As for the movie, death, death upon whom ever came up with this stupid idea.

The only good 3D movie in all existence has and forever will be: Life.

The dark side doesn't give a gundark about the fans. This is all about dragging a new generation of kids to the movies and wring as much money out of them with the subsequent merchandising blitz.

And if you think Lucas is evil, just wait till he becomes one with the farce and other people get really greedy ...

I'm sick of all the 3D. When Hollywood thinks something will sell, they all jump on the band wagon. I can understand a little bit, after all it's about making money. Still, keep some individual thinking in there until we have cool Star Trek Holosuites where it makes sense.

So, dumb question here, but does anyone think THIS is also where the long rumoured "George will replace the lightsaber battles in the original trilogy" might come into play?

Curse you, cayman. That was all I had to say. Oh well, I'll say it anyway.

Vomit.

Great minds think alike :)

The worst part is I'll almost certainly go see all six of them. I loathe myself.

You SHOULD loathe yourself. :p

I'm not going to feel even the slightest temptation. I only saw AOTC once, and not in a cinema - was on a handicam VCD someone played at a party. Good enough to know I hated it. Have tried to give it a chance a few times since but never been able to sit through it. Saw ROTS at the cinema once, tried to watch it on TV a couple of weeks ago and couldn't. Ditto the SEs.

Fool me once...well, half a dozen times, but the lesson sank in eventually. It would take a re-release of the original, unmolested film to get my arse on a cinema seat.

I'm very excited about this. I love Star Wars. No shame in admitting so.

Very excited to see this happen and I am very interested to see ILM taking the time necessary to do it right.

I will try to resist the temptation. Even if I was a PT supporter, which I'm pretty lukewarm to, 3D sucks, and as stupid gimmicks go, making the OT 3D is right up there with colorizing Casablanca. Pointless, tacky money grab.

They've already got my money. I can't wait to see all the movies on the big screen again. The 3D aspect of it is just a bonus.

I posted almost the same thing on another forum. I have yet to be impressed by "converted" 3D films, but SW on the big screen is a pretty rare thing, so I expect to be there.

'Course, I also expect to give the first three a proper MST3K treatment... :love

3D is a bonus ? seems like Lucas is just riding the 3D gimmick while it's still alive.

Wasn't he one of the ones pushing it four years ago? I think he had even said that they would release the six films in 2007 for the 30th anniversary before McCallum said he was being premature. Not saying that what you stated isn't true, but he was one of the people behind the technology getting off the ground.

I'm really not a fan of 3D, but I'm not going to lie - I'm stoked to see The Phantom Menace on the big screen again!

Yeah, I said it!

Podracing might be fun in 3d.

I love 3d. I'll go. It will likely be the new CG yoda in Episode I which IS an improvement to that god awful puppet they had.

Of course Jar Jar's tongue flying out in 3d...sigh.
