Star Wars blu ray in September

I figure the bonus stuff will be on youtube in about, oh...seventeen seconds after the release. $90 dollars in my pocket.

...read my mind.

Unless LFL ever does a super-duper add on of material and footage to give another 20-30 minutes of movie time to the OT, I just don't seem interested. I wish they would, but know it'll never happen because frankly it probably doesn't exist and if it did is so deteriorated it's cost prohibitive.

Okay, I have not read the entire thread of replies (can you blame me?), so I'm not sure if this has already been dealt with or not;

On the first page it was brought up whether the blu-ray's will contain Special Editions, Theatrical editions etc. While I can't predict with any type of certainty what Lucas will do (the guy has been surpising me with his decisions my whole life), there is an option that Spielberg presented with Close Encounters that I am hoping Lucas will follow, and I'm certain it would please just about any type of Star Wars fan out there.

When Close Encounters came out on the blu-ray collector's edition in 2007, it contained three seperate screenings of the film; Theatrical Cut (1977), Director's Cut (1980), and Special Edition (1998). So this way, you could choose which incarnation of the film you wanted to view.

I know Lucas is not exactly all about viewer choices, but seriously, how could that possibly be a bad idea?

Lutso: Not gonna happen. These are the Special Editions ++. I say "++" because they've been revised twice since then.. more tweaks for the DVDs beyond the original SEs, then more tweaks yet again for this BD release.

In terms of choice, the clear winner here is Blade Runner (although Close Encounters is probably a close second.. hehe). No fewer than five versions of the film on Blu-ray. :) George should be taking notes.

None of which were really worth the effort or money.

George does a money grab and he's the devil. Ridley does it and he's a God.

You people are something.

Some could say the same thing about the theatrical cuts of these films.

That's twice you've singled out a post of mine, as if we're on opposite sides of the fence here. Sorry if you think that Lucas walks on water, but not everyone does.

So because you have the internet you need to whine endlessly about the same old stuff.

Lucas and the PT, yeah that's not been done to death.

You people need to get over it.

Just don't watch Star Wars at all anymore. Most of you don't deserve it anyway.

Whining about whining is also whining, Mic. You won't be hearing ME slam Lucas. Somewhere along the way, some people forget that feeling they got from the Star Wars saga. I haven't and frankly, I love it when there is a new generation of fans. It is a timeless saga, and even the Prequels draw the younger crowd.

I've said it before, and I will say it again...this is Lucas' story. He hasn't changed, but some of our tastes did. Some of the fans expected an adult to further evolve and make the story "WE" wanted instead of accepting it for what it is.

One or two sentences isn't whining.

PARAGRAPHS in thread after thread about Lucas losing his mind or whatever IS.

There's a big difference.

Well, the cool thing is to say how much Uncle George touched you in naughty places and ruined your childhood. I guess we will never be cool.

Part of me wants to say if he doesn't like the way the OT came out, fine. He only signed a BILLION+ dollar licensing fee for just the prequels. So, he's easily made well over a billion off the perquels alone. The upshot being he's free to remake the entire OT with current tech to bring it up to his original vision. He's got more than enough money to do so. Just don't try and tell people that's the only version that it exists when it clearly isn't.

As much as he plays the 'it's my story and I can do what the hell i want' card, he fails to realize that other people hold the versions they saw before as dear as he holds his vision of what they should be. I can't imagine anything is actually cost prohibitive to him (see the PT licensing deal). It shouldn't take much to make him realize how dear loads of people hold the OT and he should be able to put it out. It'd be win win. He could then make whatever changes to it he wanted, but the original would be preserved and that particular monkey would be off his back for good. No one would push him to make the OOT in 3D or anything else.

I'm probably more forgiving than a lot of people on the OT changes. The only one that really bugged me is han not shooting first and putting hayden at the end of ROTJ. That's actually changing the story a bit. The rest don't really change the story. Hayden doesn't really change the story, but it just isn't right.

Wow. Just...wow.

Wow.

Really, you don't get that it's disrespectful of the craft and ALL the people that make the movies to just simply state. It sucked and it's ALL George's fault.

Get real. They don't deserve it because they have no respect for the craft.

They're just selfish wannabes with nothing better to do.

I DO agree there's too much PT complaining (I have swung back and forth on my enthusiasm for the PT over the years, sometimes enjoying it, at others maligning it). And I understand your frustration as a PT fan that those who like them get crapped on, and armchair quarterbacks aren't respectful of how hard it is to make a movie...but lordy, to say they don't "deserve" Star Wars is a bit harsh, isn't it?! I guess I see why you say it, but I have to disagree and say I think you can be a huge, lifelong fan and dislike the PT vehemently for any number of legitimate reasons. I suppose fandom is just split, and always will be. But if you don't like the EU novels, do you not "deserve" Star Wars? Writing a book is hard work. How about if you dislike CW, or the comics? How about the Holiday Special? Do you have to be all-inclusive to be a true fan? I hope not. Some of those novels are appalling :lol

It is never a question about WHAT you like. People like what they like.

When in one sentence you rag on Lucas and beg for the OT, that's just counter productive.

Also, the people that say "George is like this or that or does this or that".

Most have ZERO idea what George is or isn't. Just fanboy fantasies.

Star Wars sequels or prequels, from the get go are/were a no win situation.

I wouldn't be surprised if he doesn't fix up the OT, just to watch the fanboys squirm.

Quit squirming.

Ridley Scott was forced to put a lame happy ending and cheesy narration on Blade Runner. This is the version released in the US in 1982. There's one version.

The work print was just pretty much all the footage thrown into a first cut not a special re-cut. This has been around since 1982. That’s two versions.

The international version had more violence and a couple other differences. This cut has been around since 1982. There are often different cuts of a movie for the international market. That’s three versions.

The Directors Cut was his attempt to restore the movie without having access to the work print. That’s four versions.

The final cut was his original vision now that he once again had access to the work print. He tweaked Zora's death scene so the use of a stunt person wasn't so obvious. He digitally removed some wires and fixed the scene where the bird flies away from Batty to make the footage match. He did not change the intention of the story or certain scenes such as making Zora shoot at Deckard.

Please note all versions all available remastered.

Steven Spielberg has made all versions of Close Encounters available remastered. He made alterations to ET but made the original version available remastered.

James Cameron has made two versions of The Abyss, Terminator 2, Aliens, and Avatar available all remastered.

George Lucas seems to be the only one unwilling to give movie fans access to a remastered version of the original theatrical cuts. This does not make me or a lot of fans hate him. This is his decision and that’s fine but we as citizens of a free country are allowed to discuss this to our hearts content and lament the fact that we can't see less grainy versions.

Many of us have not forgotten the feeling we got from the Star Wars saga and still enjoy the OT. Many of us do not believe George Lucas ruined our childhood.

Yes many people who dislike the PT have gone overboard with their complaining but some of us are trying to be respectful of those that like them. If you enjoy them fine but for those of us that don’t it doesn’t mean that we hate George Lucas. It doesn’t mean he ruined our childhood.

Your comment about "the people that say "George is like this or that or does this or that" is funny considering how you claim "Ridley Scott is like this or does this or that".

We are not being disrespectful of the craft. There is such a thing as a large group of people getting together to make a movie and totally screwing it up. We as citizens of a free country are allowed to discuss this to our hearts content.
