Star Wars blu ray in September

I'm 44....I saw Star Wars at the cinema when i was 10 in December '77.

Star wars still excites me so much. I don't have as much " stuff " as a lot of you guys, but i do have a real Graflex Luke ESB, a full size Darth Vader and a smile on my face when i think the Blu-rays are only a fortnight away!

I remember when the SE's were due to be released....my mantra was "any Star Wars is good news to me!"....OK, slightly idealistic....i'm not all that bothered about the Clone Wars stuff, can't be doing with Ewok movies etc., but i still consider myself to be a fanboy.

I'm overjoyed that the BD's look to have had some major fixes done. The idea of decent looking sabers just thrills me.

My wife will be disappearing when the BD's arrive......she's not into SW, and the thought of a Star Wars marathon followed by 40 hours of extras is nightmarish to her.....

I'm not keen on Bladerunner either.....

Don't get your hopes up. The 2004 DVD changed this to sort of a simultaneous shot with Greedo shooting a split second sooner. Still doesn't explain how the hell Greedo could miss at point blank range, but yeah, he does get off a shot, and no, that's not gonna change outside of an archival version of Star Wars.

Only thing getting people thinking about what may or may not be on the BR is the caption from the Star Wars "Moments" website for the pic of Solo staring into camera after just having blown Greedo away. The caption is 'Who Shot First?", which seems a peculiar thing to draw attention to, and in an odd way given most fan's feeling on the change. The fact that Lucas has been photographed wearing a "Han shot first" shirt also seems to be getting some play, however I'm not sure how much emphasis should be put on it. Food for thought in any event.

star wars in blu-ray the action that was once unbelievable in the theaters years ago is now available in a disc with stunning quality well done technology

The Lucas in the Han Shot First t-shirt is old news. I want to say it's something like..what..three years old at least? Maybe more.

It strikes me that the "Who Shot First?" thing will be used as a means to gin up exactly the kind of speculation you've mentioned as a way to help drive further sales from otherwise skeptical/turned-off viewers. It is, however, hardly the only problematic scene in the SEs -- just the most glaringly obvious one. I'd be surprised if he changed it back, but I suppose that's possible. I'm just tired of all the tinkering and "Let's see what he does THIS time" business, especially without the archival versions available on which to fall back. The novelty of the tinkering is mildly interesting, and would be more interesting if there were archival versions. Without them, though, it's just all kinda pointless to me. A window into whatever momentary whims Lucas is entertaining today.

There is one thing that's certain when it comes to Lucas' vision that forever alters Star Wars. We'll have the final version of the film... after he's dead.

:behave

Of course, he may write some will that will leave detailed instruction on how to further change the original trilogy. That would be so evil.

And then of course there may be those who like the 97 SE, but are upset about the changes to the 2004 edition. For instance, I like the smaller Jabba in the 97 (for various reasons it would be tedious to explain--don't try to get me chatting about the merits of the 97 vs 04 Jabba, they both suck). For some people the 97 SE was a huge moment in their lives, for some the first time they saw SW. Shouldn't THOSE people have their version available as well? Seriously, this should be like a thirteen disc set... :unsure

While it would be nice to have the option of a multi-version, comprehensive set, I can see it being cost-prohibitive to a good number of fans. If it had the Original, 97SE, 04SE, and a newly redone version for each film, this could be pushing 20 discs or more, easy. I shudder to think how much something like that would cost. :eek

I'm a HUGE Blade Runner fan, and when the Final Cut came out, there were multiple purchasing options. I opted for the four disc, but there was an even snazzier five disc I could have chosen. For ONE movie. Lucasfilm could make a massive crazy set, in limited numbers, for these SIX films and people (even I, most likely) would buy it.

OT: Theatrical, 97, 04/11 = 9 discs
PT: TPM theatrical/DVD and AOTC theatrical/DVD, ROTS = 5 discs
Special Features = 1/2 discs

So what, fifteen, sixteen discs? Yeah, I'd be down for that. Hell, I bought the Alien Quadrillogy and I'm not even that nuts about the last two movies. What a set that was, huh? So much awesome in one little box.

Of course, as I've often said to anyone who will listen, GL could be a hero by releasing some kind of choose-you-own-adventure option, when the tech is available. So I could choose chapters 1-6 of the theatrical, say, but insert chapter 7 from the SE, then chapters 8-19 of the theatrical, and 20-21 of the SE (for instance). Once the playlist is queued up, hit play and watch my own custom cut. This is my impossible dream.

And yes, I know that steps over the line--I don't think George would OR should do that. It would be fun is all.

Yes, slightly over four years ago. He was wearing it in the early days of filming Indiana Jones and The Crystal Skull

I didn't have a problem with smaller jabba either until he popped up in TPM at normal ROTJ size. I thought that was the motivation for changing the SE, but who knows.

To me, the SE's are incomplete until Alderaan gets screen time in ANH :)

Yeah, that makes sense, but the smaller Jabba is part of SW history as well, and some people have fond memories of him, continuity be damned.

For me, the jury is still out whether or not I will get the BD release. I love Star Wars, but really didnt care for the 2004 DVD release. Occasionally I will catch the HD version of the OT on Spike and it just doesnt feel like "my" Star Wars. Plus, I dont even own a BD player yet. Not sure this release is worth picking one up.

No idea if this is authentic, but...

EYEBALLS and EYELIDS??!!! WTF?!
AUGH - Why don't you just turn them all into wookies?!

Are the Jawas going to blink now too? I hated those ewoks, but to change the look of a major character is just ridiculous. They had big brown ball eyes for eyes. That's the way I remember them. They were made to look like giant teddy bears. Now all that is going to change :cry

To be fair, on even the low bitrate HDTV rips you can occasionally see Vader's eyeballs. Like the tape on the trooper armor, it might just be a side effect of finally getting a quality transfer.
