Star Wars Andor (Disney+ TV series)

Speaking of Kleya, it seemed very apparent that she became more like Leia, in both character and appearance. I should've seen it coming, I mean, her name is basically just Leia with a "K" added. Regardless, he Leia-esque turn was welcome.

Right? I though it was kind of interesting Mon's daughter Leida also had a name that felt like a variation of Leia.

Rogue One is a top 3 Star Wars movie for me and Cassian Andor is one of my top 5 favorite Star Wars characters. I really liked the first season, a bit slow for my liking, but I understand they were setting up a story and it's a different kind of show than what most Star Wars fans are use to and expecting. Was pumped for season 2..........

That being said, I'm 4 episodes in and I must say it's been a bit disappointing. Other than the opening scene in Episode 1 and a few misc sequences, it's been hard for me to watch. I get they're laying down this story and building characters, but man, seems to be excessively weighed down and slow. EVERYONE I talk to who has finished this series says to hang on, just keep going, but I'm starting to think that maybe this is one of those types of shows and the kind of storytelling that just doesn't hold my interest.

Wondering if I should invest in the time to finish this.............

Hang in there, it will pay off. I use the slow moments to help immerse myself in the world building even more. Just let it flow over you.

You should invest in the time to finish it

We were the same. I was complaining and wanting to fast forward. About half way through you will be good to go. I might even advise some to just look at some episode recaps and start 1/3rd of the way in.

If you need to be spoon fed your entertainment like it’s Reacher playing in the background while doing laundry, then by all means fast forward to episode 8 or 9. If you want to enjoy nuance, world building , and incredible attention to detail that is also in the Star Wars universe then sit back , get comfortable, and soak in Andor season 2.

I won’t be fast forwarding, and I love good story building, but let’s not drag on. The wedding reception / dance party was a great example, along with some over done nuanced dialogue, and phone calls to mommy……

You are posting the exact same complaints as me a few pages back. Minus what I called the "space morons" in the first two that just went nowhere and burned time. There is slow burn and there is just burn. It didn't bring much to the table for the amount of time they spent on it. Other than oh yeah, this happened to Andor once. But we soldiered on and were rewarded.

Yeah, the first half of the second season is a slog, even more so than the first few episodes of the first season, and the nonsense of the first two episodes of this season with the group on Yavin could have been been totally removed without having any impact on the story.
It really felt like filler to pad out the episode count and an excuse to start the season off with some action sequences that would look good in the trailers
The "hang in there" advice is legit though as it has a strong finish

Finished last night...

Loved every second. I can't believe Cassian Andor is now EASILY in my top 3 characters of all time, if not at the top. I find it interesting that people find him the least compelling of the show... I truly enjoyed watching the rebellion form through his eyes.

Maybe it's that I hated him so much in Rogue One (Tho I hated that movie altogether) that my expectations were extremely low - but I am genuinely sad that this is it for his character. I never would have thought I'd ever write that about "Scowly Mcfrown-Face" from that terrible prequel.

Now I'm heading into my rewatch of Rogue One. I don't think it will make it GREAT, but it may be improved? We'll see!

Quickie Great List:

- Krennic being terrifying - he sucked in Rogue one... that finger on the head (seen in James post above) was an amazing shot.
- Final Bix shot
- Both droids.
- Every single detail of every shot. Backgrounds. Costume. Always interesting to look at.
- All the side characters. Not a crappy one.
- LUTHEN WASN'T A JEDI.
- Kleya having to end Luthen's life.
- EVERYTHING MON MOTHMA
- Cassian playing cards scene. I just loved it.
- K2 to the rescue.

I could go on and on. So good.

I can't remember who said it, but now if you watch Andor season 1 through to A New Hope... Luke is no longer the hero of the story... he's just a hero. And I'm good with that!

I love that Luke was the bullet... but we just spend 24 episodes building the gun.

10/10

Thinking about some of the complaints of the first few episodes with the rebels on Yavin, I was thinking about how the same immaturity of the rebellion could have been portrayed a little better by making some relatively minimal changes and replacing the 'moron' rebels with some more familiar faces. This is what I came up with:

Cassian steals the TIE Avenger, as originally shown, but in a slight change (and being FX-budget conscious!) he breaks atmosphere pursued by the sentry ships. In space and under-fire he is rescued as Saw's partisans drop out of hyperspace and destroy his pursuers. This way we get a little space action scene similar to Luthen's traffic stop in the first season that has a bit more oomph than the chase through the canyons that we got.

The plot would be that Luthen has made a deal with Saw - he and his partisans help Cassian escape with the TIE Avenger, embarrassing the Empire, and escort him to meet another rebel cell who will take the experimental ship, analyse it for weaknesses and for any technology that they can steal to upgrade their own ships. In return Saw will be given a shipment of rhydonium by the cell to help keep his group in action.

So far, so good. They arrive at the undisclosed jungle rendezvous point and Draven is there waiting for them - he's leading the rebel cell. Unfortunately, negotiations break down as Draven is unwilling to give Saw full payment (after all they need the rhydonium too), so Saw declares that he will keep the TIE and take the rhydonium anyway and the two groups come to blows (much like in the original scenes) with Cassian caught in the middle.

Desperate to get home, he escapes with the TIE, leaving them to find a resolution, radios Kleya to yell at her and the rest follows as in the original version.

I think the advantages would be that we are re-introduced to Saw and Draven early on and establishing that a) there are multiple rebel groups and b) that they do not get on together. It sets up the plot with Wilmon in the future episodes with Saw still looking for a source of Rhydonium and his mistrust of anyone sent by Luthen. It can set up conflict between Cassian with a) Saw (explaining why they need Jyn as an interlocutor in Rogue One) b) Draven (explaining the seemingly hostile relationship they have later on) and c) Luthen (for recklessly putting him in the middle of these guys, and explaining a bit more of his reticence about bringing in more groups like the Ghormans). We can maybe even get a closer look at the origins of the base on Yavin (e.g. Draven's group have a rudimentary camp going near the ruins).

Obviously this would all have been dependent on budget, actor availability etc. but think it might have reduced some of the complaints we saw about that plot line at the time.
