Star Wars Ahsoka (tv series)

Given the importance placed on these new characters it does make you wonder why they weren't on the front lines with Han, Luke, and Leia? They may very well have been involved in other covert missions or other tactical battles during the war, but again, it's their proximity to some of those core characters that make the question arise. Ahsoka was Anakin's apprentice. Anakin's. The Chosen One. The guy who, according to Lucas, is the central figure in this universe, and on whom every major plot point seems to revolve. Why didn't she train Luke instead of Obi-Wan or Yoda? Why didn't she seek out Luke and give him her insight into his father in ANH, instead of Obi-Wan? Surely her firsthand knowledge of her Master would have been helpful to the Rebel cause or personally to Luke during his rise to become a Jedi Knight? What was so pressing elsewhere that she couldn't have intervened at some critical point in the story, only to show herself after the victory at Endor?

It's questions like these that make it difficult to accept this as one cohesive narrative and I think that it's best to approach each story as it's own thing. Again, this is just something to consider.
I will say, in regards to "Where Was Ahsoka?" I know many here don't have a lot of respect for Filoni, and my own feelings on him will shift day by day, but, he has done an okay job of answering these questions. When Rebels first started, I wondered how he could pull this off, how could he have two force sensitives, later three, in Kanan, Ezra, and then Ahsoka, be active pre-ANH without causing a major pot hole. But then Kanan died, Ezra sacrificed himself and got pulled off into the unknown by the Purgil, and as for Ahsoka, the last time we see her, before she reappears originally in the Rebels epilogue and Mando Season 2, Ahsoka is seen stranded on Malachor. When Ezra enters the World Between Worlds in the final season of Rebels, he sees Ahsoka and pulls her into the World Between Worlds with him, however they are separated and both leave and re-enter their respective times.

Filoni hints that Ahsoka eventually managed to get off of Malachor by re-entering the World Between Worlds in a series of Topps Trading Card sketch cards he did for the line, however the canonicity of these cards is unknown, and even if the events depicted are what Dave intends to have happened, we still don't know how long it took her to re-enter the WBW, and where and when she was able to exit it. It's very possible she wasn't able to get out until after the Battle of Endor, and even if she did get out, she was stranded on another world in another abandoned Temple with no means of getting off world and back to the fight until after things have mostly wrapped up.

Or Rex. He fights along side Anakin longer than Ahsoka did. He's supposed to have been at Endor. You'd think that A) some clones fighting for the Rebellion, and B) a clone trooper who served with Anakin would be front and center. And friends with Anakin's son.

Along with this, I hate the idea of the 501st serving under Anakin the whole war. I preferred it when they were a special unit assigned to the newly named, Darth Vader.

So she was stranded on a lifeless barren world for 3 years?

Filoni himself has said that George had wanted Ahsoka to die before the Original Trilogy events, but George sold Lucasfilm before the series concluded.

J
Rumor is that George wanted Maul and Padmé's ex killed off too.

So she was stranded on a lifeless barren world for 3 years?
Or she re-entered the WBW like Dave suggests and was able to exit out on a different world, but a different time, like several years in the future. We won't know the exact details until it's definitively stated somewhere in some new piece of content which of those things it was, but the thing is, I don't view it as a plot hole that she didn't train or try to train Luke, as she was either stranded on Malachor or somewhere else.

Plus, she didn't even know Luke existed. It's not stated, seen, or implied anywhere that at the time of disappearance she had any idea that Anakin and Padme's kid(s) survived. Padme's funeral makes it seem like she died while still pregnant and Ahsoka thought that Anakin was dead and Vader had killed Anakin almost right up until their duel on Malachor, and at the end of that duel is when she went missing.

By reports on the internet
& in my own personal circles, people I've chatted to who have watched most of the recent SWTV material, they have either skipped it or started watching it & gave up on it
So, anecdotal evidence. My own anecdotal evidence is pretty much the opposite, and is probably worth just as much as anyone else's. I haven't heard or seen much in terms of actual viewer numbers being reported or even suggested -- except (I presume) by those YouTube channels that always seem as if they should be named "I Hate the Things I Love!" and have been reporting the death of Star Wars for the last several years, if not from the opening day for The Phantom Menace. I mean, I wouldn't watch those channels even if I agreed with them, just due to the relentless negativity.

I appreciate the background and you taking the time to share it with me.

i just watched the final episode of Ahsoka... gosh. Its not really re-watchable in my view.
WHAT HAPPENED??

I am really stumped by what exactly happened in 8 episodes. Was this a story that mattered in the whole of the SW universe?
I guess i have some final takeaways.
1. Ahsoka is as broody as the new Luke. She is not even the main character in her own show... Is this before or after the Mando thing? I assume its after. ? I forgot to read the crawl. it doesnt explain anything or any reason anyone would assume Thrawn survived.. maybe the night sisters leaked it? Maybe i missed it in the show. Not surprised.
Ahsoka is boring. She spends the whole series deciding if she wants to be Sabines master again because of something that happened that others just hint at. But wait... see point 5.
2. The story is a lame duck. Apparently the whole plot is designed to set up whatever is next because it fails on many levels.
3. Every reunion is not even an event. Sabine sees Ezra and they try to play it off? after all Sabine has gone through? WHAT? Then Ezra sees Hera and again... no reactions?? They act like they are seeing someone from high school they are not exactly happy is at the reunion. "Oh, its a stormtrooper? Why is he here? Are you sure thats even a stormtrooper? oh, its Ezra. Wait, is Ezra a stormtrooper now? I guess don't shoot him cuz he smiled at us."
4. Thrawn. Is he dumb now? or just doesnt care? Gosh he's boring, too!
5. So Sabine is learning to be a jedi, but she isnt... she has no master because they are girl fighting over something and neither wants to talk about it because girl stuff. But wait.. Sabine all of a sudden can use the force? And now shes a better fighter than the previous 7 episodes? What? She can force push Ezra to the SD minutes later than she had to all of a sudden call a saber to kill a zombie Deathtrooper? Oh its that easy now? And she could do all that after episodes earlier only being told to try to use it because her ex-master wasnt interested in teaching her anything. What?
6. Baylan.... where did he go????? He just all of a sudden decides his own padawan or mentee or whatever apprentice should just follow her own path because they were now on different paths.. for some reason. Then he is gone from the series until the last scene he has where he is alone.... like Luke.. looking out from some empty place.. he doesnt even know who he is either now? what??
7. Shin. Shin gets beat in her last duel.. or more properly, let go... and she rides off.. then she is gone from the series until.... we see her sitting on top of a hill with her lightsaber raised and others see it and thats ALL?? why did we even care about this character? does she even know who she is either?
8. Morgan... she was not even a formidable obstacle. she was going to die. she was the means to some information. big deal.
9. Huyang. Best Character in the whole show. Funny. Informative. Helpful.
10. Chopper. Runner up for best character. And he was in .... what... 10 scenes?
11. Hera and the rest of the Republic slash rebels... why? They just flounder for a few episodes and show up when its already over and dont do anything except argue a lot and uncover some information. Sure they find Ahsoka... then hand her off and then gone again. They could have used literally any character for this.. even made up a new one.. and it would have been the same.
12. 3P0... cameo much? could have been Jar Jar depending on how long Gungans live. Wait, Leia is a senator again? AFTER the fall of the Death Star 2? What planet does she possibly represent? .. i digress..

Did i miss anyone?

OK So after alllll that... what did happen here?
we met some new characters. we saw about a dozen force wielders without wielding the force for much of anything except for like standing in a circle with some floating electrical balls. we went to another galaxy. we saw space whales. we saw a lot of people arguing and not training. we saw that Huyang can probably make 5000 lightsabers with his knowledge and parts. we saw a lot of spaceship repairs that anyone can do without spare parts. we saw an escape room of a map that leads to somewhere that was destroyed so no one else can have it. we found Ezra is not dead and returned him while exchanging Ahso and Sabine to the new Ewok planet with 2 parted-ways sith on it, plus a bunch of night sisters. we saw zombie stormtroopers, and none of them were force pushed off the cliffs. we saw characters ho have no idea who they are so why should we care who they are at this time? we saw Thrawn is completely unthwarted in his attempts to get back to the main galaxy. we saw a huge hyperspace ring. cool. Ezra brings news of a lesser Thrawn to the republic.

thats all i got. and thats a 4/10.

Although Filoni said it was a fun idea that that was Rex on Endor, he (or LFL, I don't remember) eventually declared that it wasn't.

concurrent with Mandalorian and even possibly before or at the same time as the most recent Mando season?

to add, apparently Morgan and the building of the hyperspace ring were introduced as far back as the Mandalorian episode with Ahsoka.
In fact, Morgan and Ahsoka Tano have had a whole duel, which set up the events of this series starting with the first scene

Of course at the time I had no clue, nor did I even remember this chain of events since I couldn't have cared less who that person was or even why they were important beyond being a throw away character, but...

Rex is "canonically" present at Endor. There was question on whether or not they would retcon Nik Sant into being Rex. As they practically look the same. But eventually the decision was made not to. But Rex is still there. Just "off screen."

Need help RPF. Which youtube Ahsoka "Rebels recap" do you suggest as the wife wanted to wait until the series was complete before watching.

Someone mentioned one, but l can't seem to find it. Thought it was like a 90 minute screen rant video??

wait she was the one on Corvus? I remember Ahso asking about Thrawn.. in two words.. but that had totally gone away.. like you say.. throwaway character and other things going on.
I guess after ... how many series we have been through since that "event"? 3 and a half? not surprised again.

that doesnt make the series better.. but at least it explains something. Would have served to mention her capture 'on Corvus' or something..
Imagine not seeing Mando and having to pick this up from nothing.. well, thats pretty much where i was even having seen the Mando series a few times.

And what the heck? Does every unit in this galaxy have no procedures or protocols concerning boarding of unknown registered ships or whatever? The ship was clearly a sith or an imperial design. the droid didnt even say anything about the transponder or the design or class of the ship..(probably for an obvious reason) and the fact that Jedi were pretty much extinct at this time says that "hey, we should probably wait for Home One to arrive before letting this ship anywhere near us if they claim openly to be jedi.. because we have big prisoners on this ship".. its like.. we need to write it this way so we can get the person escaped even though it would not make sense in any way in real life.

or even Ezra landing on a Republic ship with an enemy shuttle... with just some guards in the hangar and no real screening.. they obviously did not know it was him because of their reaction to the stormtrooper coming down the ramp.

At least in the prison ship episode from Mandalorian, the ship was run by droids and they attached in a supposed blind spot using some slicer kind of weirdness and several criminal minds taking care of certain elements. But this.. there is no brain by a commander again. I dont think they could even write a legitimate unbeatable Thrawn if they wanted to. They really need a true established author to write a plot involving some tactical military genius smarter than anyone. Or ask Zahn to co-write the story...??

I could understand one mistake from a commander, maybe, if a mistake that big then why a commander?.. but the writing about commanders in the Disney-owned fashion is now well established that commanders are morons or have a terrible security streak for some reason. They must make idiot decisions to move the plot.. This dude, Hux, Holdo, Gideon? he may have been the best of the bunch, Thrawn (even though he escapes he fails to take out this tiny band of a couple rebels and wannabe jedis when simple clones murdered the entire temple)..he had night sisters AND a star destroyer AND minefield AND other pursuing ships. I guess he did hold them off long enough...

now wait.. clones could take out an entire temple full of Jedi and just because of sheer volume of fire? No force bubbles? no Pulling down the Temple ceilings on the soldiers? no Temple defenses? no force push or force healing or force invisibility, just blind Jedi arrogance and surprise? maybe i just unraveled too much here. That was even George writing.. at the time that was believable.

perhaps the time they take for writing is not adequate.. or perhaps the writing is not read by someone critical enough to pick apart what is being done... maybe it just comes down to that. there are plenty of serious fans who can pick it apart after you film it.. i can tell you that much.

ok well at least we have that solved.. i really wanted this to be a good show. Ahsoka was a great character in the Clone Wars and she was thoughtful and questioning and fast and blade savvy and grew to be a fairly formidable apprentice and loved by the clones. Even dealing with a very sneaky Asajj and a manipulating Maul on her own and holding her own. And in the first appearance of the Mando episode she was still a great fighter, but her character was lacking and no description about why or anything ... And here? shes slow and moody and uncaring and uninteresting and boring and selfish and she cant even fight a more serious "master?" Baylan with real talent and an apprentice. Then she talks to Anakin and that made no sense whatsoever. He told her to keep fighting or to fight more or to not give up or something. If i have to rank this show with all the others, this one is the bottom.

At least i watched it all.. and i tried to like it..

Right. Dave had intended for Rex to be the bearded character you see in Return of the Jedi but eventually pulled away from that idea as he realized that Nik had his own fandom and he didn’t want to impede on that. So I always figure he’s slightly just to the left off camera in every shot During the Endor scenes.

There is always so much debate about this because people only heard the first half of the story. Then there is those Galaxy animated YouTube shorts that put Rex in scenes in place of Nik. So people are always posting screen shots of those.

Look, the minute you try to bring reason into Star Wars TV... if The Star Wars Holiday Special taught us ANYTHING, is that you can't rationalize Star Wars TV...

Well there's little served in establishing Rex on Endor if he's not Nix. Him being the guy in the movie was the entire point of the idea.

The actual canon never stated he was on Endor, just that he was at the Battle of Endor along with Hera. He could have been on the Ghost among the many other ships.

The script reads:

Hera fought in the battle of Endor, as did Commander Rex.
