Star Trek: Unification (short)

It just makes me realize that, every once in a while, like Picard Season 3, Star Trek fans get things like this, while Star Wars fans keep getting the opposite.

For Star Trek, there are always possibilities.

(Yeah…yeah, that was cheesy to say, I know)
I think there's more of a fundamental problem in comparing Star Wars and Star Trek. Star Wars is more of a limited concept, it is about war, which narrows the scope of storytelling.

Picard series 3 was little more than Easter eggs and rehashing of other better stories but that is a hallmark of the Kurtzman era so it is nothing new.

This latest OTOY video seems more like a proof of concept for training AI. It has good moments but it is just a series of clips edited together and for some reason they are trying to tie into the Kelvin timeline and having that random Disco character dropped in for no reason was quite jarring which doesn't sit well with me, but was likely a condition of getting approval from Paramount.
Picard giving Kirk his insignia would have made so much more sense given he was the one to bury Kirk and this is supposed to be a tie in and celebration of the Generations film. Like most things Trek these days, it all just feels a bit off.

Cute, Nimoy is rolling in his grave and if alive would be incensed by this Shatner revisit

Did Shatner and Nimoy have an off-again, on-again friendship since TOS? I recall that Shatner was out of real work for a while after TOS, living out of his truck, but after some TV commericals and a few B-movies he got back into the game with more steady TV roles. And then his writing career took off.

There SEEMED to be a friendship between the two men in the 1980s through the 2000s.

I wonder what happened?

Yes, it was on and off over the years, I believe mostly due to Shatner's massive ego and tendency to misstate things.

This article explains how it was at the end:

Kind of casts a different light on Unification, doesn't it?

Ah, yes…

You are referring to the “Promise Margarine Era” of Shatner’s career…

Shatner's version:

Shat and Nimoy were always on and off.

Nimoy finally cut contact in their 70s when Shat used Nimoy's pictures against his wishes in a book or something. It didn't sound like a big deal by itself, but I imagine it was a long time coming. Sometimes it's a little straw that breaks the camel's back.

I think Shat was known for being more of a douche than Nimoy. He was a bit of a leading-man prima-donna when the show was in its heyday.

It was not the 70’s it was much later, The 90’s are when we had the Bill and Lenny show schtick that made a few rounds

Late 2000’s when Leonard had finally enough

Personally having met both of them more than a few times Shat was always the arrogant prick while Leonard was always the gentleman
