Wow.
From what I can see from the video and pics, this appears to be an amazing piece.
The TOS communicator was the first prop I desired as a kid, writing to the studio (years after the show ended) asking them to send me a spare communicator -- surely they must have some sitting around. Somehow my request made it to someone who was kind enough to send me an 8x11 B&W glossy pic of the comm (same shot seen in Making of Star Trek), a photo I stared at for hours, wishing I could have one just like it. When I stumbled upon the infamous pencil box while getting school supplies one year, I couldn't help but think it had been inspired by the Trek prop as all the lines and curves seemed spot on (little did I know). Then came the MEGO walkie talkies -- blue?? Then the AMT kit...what a let down. Then some excitement when the fan made props made the scene, but to a high school kid, they cost a small fortune. Still, I saved my lawn mowing money and bought one, and over the years, countless others, selling them off and using the money to buy others that were considered more accurate or had more bells and whistles.
Having collected so many replicas of this prop over the years (both licensed and fan-made), I feel it is fair to say that this appears to be one of the coolest ever offered for under $200, bar none. Note I said "coolest" and not "most accurate." That said, I challenge anyone to show me anything that even comes CLOSE to the accuracy of this with all the same functions that sells for anything close to $150.
Can't wait to get this in hand. Bravo, Wand Company...bravo.
