Star Trek: Picard

I wish it all the best. I've accepted that I've 'grown so inflexible' that I just don't understand how Star Trek post-2009 is perceived by young audiences these days. I watch the new trailers and it all looks the same; well-shot with great CG, yet so average and indistinguishable from any other sci-fi production. I really hope the kids are watching the new stuff thinking 'wow, that's awesome'. I think about how obsessed I was with Star Trek as an 11 year old kid and I wonder if kids would still 'feel' it the same way me and my other 39 year old buddies did.
If kids are watching the new movies and Discovery and loving it, than I suppose that's a positive. Younger audiences aren't necessarily concerned with studio politics and who ripped who off. At least we know Star Trek isn't going to be forgotten.

Not sure it's something kids should be allowed to watch. Especially so if Tarantino starts making it.

They could at least use the Aliso Viejo "ziggurat". That looks more Star Trek than a lot of the recent buildings they've used for exteriors...

It appears that part of the story takes place on the planet where Kirk fought the Gorn, or the planet where they found Lazarus, or the Shore Leave planet, or Capella IV, or the planet from “Who Watches the Watchers”, or the planet Vulcan....

I’m not sure, they all look so familiar to me.

edit: I know they filmed a bunch there. Found images of all the ones you said. I just posted this one because it's near the same spot and obviously the same rock.

Just a shot in the dark, but I wonder if he returns to Mintaka III to visit the Proto-Vulcans during the new series?

I really wish this show would go in a more Trek direction with a scientific story or exploratory theme... instead of more kicky shooty boom boom that old Trek didnt have to rely on so much. However the trailer doesnt seem to indicate this direction.

This looks more like Picard jumped into ST Discovery.

Well, I took the plunge and started watching Discovery. I don't hate it..........but I don't love it. It's just okay.

When I watched season 1 of STD I didn't really hate so much as I didn't think of it as Star Trek and I still don't. Some of their ideas and concepts are so far away from Star Trek that it boggles the mind. The other thing that I didn't like about it was that the producers tried very hard to make a space version of Game of Throans, which they mentioned they all loved, and with the exception of the incest they did pretty much that though I expected to be told that at some point Spock and Michael had gotten it on together while growing up.

A scientific way is ok, but not in a 80's to 90's ST series way. TNG is the most overrated series ever. This show was carried by Stewart alone and his legendary facepalm is a symbol of 80% of the scripts that made an episode. There was so much really crappy stuff in TNG, DS9 and Voyager that some average episodes look great in comparison.

I disagree.

Nothing can ever be more crappy as the first two seasons of TNG. Voyager maybe, but only because they ****** up a interesting concept from the start right away.

Don't let "Shades of Grey" cloud your memory, there were a number of great episodes in those first two seasons, solid stories that stand to this day.
Also, Voyager had many solid episodes across its 7 Seasons.
