Star Trek Beyond

Re: New STAR TREK 3

You have seen the fast and furious films he directed then, or are you just assuming that?

Re: New STAR TREK 3

Still need to catch up to the later sequels, but from what I have heard the FF movies kept getting better as the franchise continued.

Though little balance of action is good, more trek with emphasis on exploration without rehashing previous storylines would be welcoming for this Star Trek sequel.

I couldn't agree more. Star Trek Into Darkness ended with the Enterprise and her crew setting off on their five-year mission, so let's get on with it and let them explore something other than familiar territory and re-hashed characters and plotlines.

Re: New STAR TREK 3

So instead of lens flare, you're gonna get slo-mo/frenetic sweeping views of starships (or raceships they'll soon be known as), our heroes walking and Uhura's booty, all to the pumping beat of Latino music and hip hop.

Re: New STAR TREK 3

At least JJ Abrams made Justin's job a little bit easier when he told his design team what he wanted the Enterprise to look like in the 2009 movie.

Industrial Light and Magic: JJ wanted us to turn the Enterprise into a Hot Rod. And that's what we're most proud of is turning the Enterprise into this Hot Rod thing.

Re: New STAR TREK 3

......."turning the Enterprise into this Hot Rod thing."

"thing " is the right word.

No grace, a characature, and certainly not a "she" spoken of in reverence by her Captain.
A command that is stolen with lies and cheats and not earned.

Ill stop myself before I use extremely foul words and heap hell upon a certain so called director who "never liked Star Trek." and "couldn't get into it.".

Re: New STAR TREK 3

Wow... Justin Lin, huh?

I have part of a script leak:

SPOCK: Captain, we're running on all thrusters and the bird of prey is still approaching fast.
KIRK: Scotty!
SCOTTY: Yes, Captain.
KIRK: I NEED NOS!!!!

Re: New STAR TREK 3

That's a loong ways off... I predict this changing hands at least one more time before it becomes a reality and possibly bumping up the time line/release date.

I think they will stick with 2016 to coincide with the 50th Anniversary and they will want to keep it in the summer slot.

So it's just 1 and 1/2 year left for pre-production, filming and post-production.

Re: New STAR TREK 3

Wow... I just noticed having a release date fills me with mild dread rather than anticipation. The more I see about how this current version of the franchise (hate thinking of it in that term, too), the more I lament the fact that we'll likely never see what my headcanon wants -- three or four films building up to the never-before-seen first year of Kirk's command of Enterprise, Billy Piper as Elizabeth Dehner and Benedict Cumberbatch as Gary Mitchell, and maybe find someone with better eyes to play Kirk. Then, after we've had a whole film for them to get used to each other and learn how to work together, we do a revamped "WNMHGB" where Kirk has to kill his best friend after he develops scenery-chewing godlike powers (and maybe even work Q into it, as the books have).

We have a chance to retell some of the best stories from TOS with better production values and more time to devote to them, and also to the stories we've wanted to seen told but never have, and it's being blown on, of all things, an alternate universe of bad science, bad storytelling, unmotivated characters, and general flash-over-substance film-making as has become too commonplace these days.

Half in the Bag had a good time with the news of Orci's departure.
