Staff of Ra Head Piece

Comparison of Sarednab (left) to Relicmaker (right) medallions below. The Sarednab has the mirror backed crystal while Relicmaker's is transparent (difference in brightness in photos). The gold is slightly different shades. I think Relicmaker's has different aging applied that accounts for some seeming differences in the appearance of the feathers, for example, but you can tell they both used the same original as every little quirk is reproduced on both.

There are some differences on one side around the bird's neck (seems a bit flatter on Sarednab's (2nd photo but hard to reproduce in two dimensions), but I think Sarednab's cherubs are cleaner and the feathers at the bottom have slightly more detail than Relicmaker's. However, the bird scales look cleaner on Relicmaker's to me, but that could be the aging ink giving more shadow detail.

Overall, they're both extremely close to each other, but I think I prefer Sarednab's just a smidgen because of the bottom feather (side in 1st photo) and cherub detail being slightly better (both photos). I also like the reflective jewel in practice for showing it off as it's just more visible in color, but the clear one looks better mounted on a staff since obviously in the movie light is meant to shine through it.

Thank you for that. I was wondering about the difference between the two.

Would you happen to have the Raven bar ones to compare?

They are both awesome!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I went with Relicmaker's as I liked the see through gem and the twisted outer braid is not part of the mold, but added after where Sarednab's is part of the mold.

It's really like comparing two Lamborghini's. Either way your lady will be impressed. (y)

Sorry, I've only got the Relicmaker Raven Bar version. I might be wrong, but I don't think those are from any copy/mold, so it may come down to the best artistic copy? There's a Dark Matter Props "Bam Box" version as well that looks reasonably good from the photos I've seen.

Wow. I wouldn't have guessed the braid was part of the mold on Sarednab's version as it's so tiny/detailed/intricate that you'd have to look pretty close to notice.

Yeah I was not sure so I asked Sarednab and he confirmed it is part of the mold. Again, both are amazing.

As far as the Raven Bar Headpiece I believe only Relicmaker offers that version.

Here's a quick 6-way comparison. I took new photos of the MK and Indy Magnoli ones side-by-side (both are bronze) to compare under the same conditions. MK uses the father mold of the Acme version so it's a bit more detailed than Acme, but otherwise looks similar.

I still have to get around to taking photos of all the current headpieces I have, but here are some old photos of various headpieces (some are/were mine, and some are ones I saved from here many years ago).

Infinity - I've never seen an Acme with that much feather detail before. Mine looks more like your RedFour pictures. Maybe I just assumed it was an Acme?

The RelicRaider one looks particularly nice, more detailed in the tail feathers than virtually any version I've seen except for my own oversized medallion, "The McGuffin".

It's also the only other medallion I have that has a soldered on outer ring other than Relicmaker's.

Acme was the original "premium" headpiece back in the day with the most detail. Not to be confused with ReplicaProps (also known as AcmeArtifacts) which I believe was based off the same headpiece but a generation or two down the line (so less detail). I believe the Redfour had similar lineage.

Relic Raider was an original sculpt by him and had fantastic detail, but was oversized and had some of the writing on the left too close together.

OK, it's probably an Acme Artifacts version, then, but it came with some other stuff that I bought it for, so I'm not sure.

If memory serves the Redfour was also cast in bronze or brass unlike most of the others which are plated. Relic Raider was cold cast, so doesn't quite have a metal feel to it as it's part resin.

My Michael Key medallion is bronze using the same mold (more detailed than Acme Artifacts, but less than Acme, so probably one or two removed). I got the details for that one from the guy that sold it to me. His wife's uncle worked at Elstree supposedly and drilled it there for him using an Indy Magnoli style mount and made him a full sized staff of Ra, which is now mounted in my home theater room.

Beautiful room and collection. I just finished reading this whole thread and found something funny. The comparison images you have on this post were made by me about two decades ago. I also made similar comparison photos of the idols using the same font. Talk about a blast from the past.

Yeah, it's been three years. I forgot some of the details I mentioned myself in that post. ;)
