LOLOLOL...gotta love this... just when ya think you're done with a build....BAM... get hit with things to change. LOL.... sounds familiar.

It is great like it is Jerry. If you choose to take on the re-do,.. That would be even more good reading and drooling. :p

What was corrcted?

Aspect ratio. The X-1 in the cap was scrunched. I un-scrunched it.

Here's a superimposition of the modified Kelley X-1 over the screengrab.

LOL...very kewl Bob.

I dunno.

Knowledge on a direct comparison can be a dangerous thing.

Jerry, you did a man's job, sir, on your X-1. Especially the interior detail. I still hold it in the highest regard. :thumbsup

Thanks guys...

I think it's been both frustrating and fun figuring out these details after the fact, for now I will be content with what I have until such time as something better is offered if that ever happens.

I still think it's amazing that Chris mastered this thing from scratch and he's a very talented modeler and it's nice to have a large X1 to display next to my Niessen Standard TIE.

I agree there. Wholeheartedly. I'd still very much like to build a Kelley X-1 myself.

I know I could not have mastered such a kit. I DO know it's very hard to work from photos only, though.

Yeah...

Looking at this again, it seems that it's not the ball that's off so much as the wing post thickness and length, the height of the center section of the wings and the angle of attack of the wings' bends.

I'll bet that if the wings could be reworked, and the modification to the wing supports I suggested earlier were done, then the Kelley would be a lot closer.

A lot of work either way. But I think doable for one with lots of time and patience.

Hey J?

Have you given any thought to the possibility of using the Code 3 wings on the Kelley?

Would that be doable?

I don't know. Last time I looked at the Code 3 wing hubs and details though, they didn't come close to looking as good as Chris's wings. He did an amazing job engineering them in 3 pieces so that with minor adjustment you can angle the wings however you want before gluing them permanent. I brought mine in a little more from the way they would have angled had I kept them in their original state.
