Split Second Props

Man I was :angry...I have a spare spring revolver that I'll try to chop off the section I need. I seriously didnt expect this speed bump lol. Do you any thoughts besides the springer option?

Yeah, I bet you were upset. I have never purchased a demilled gun, but I suppose they have to exclude a portion of the gun so you can't just weld it up and shoot it again. I don't know, but, that photo just breaks my heart! Seems to me they could have just pinned the cylinder and welded it closed or something.

Will the springer front end fit? My worry would be destroying something else, and then not having it fit. Like throwing the front end of a ford on a chevy or something, and now you have two things ruined. Is the springer metal, or plastic? I would not do it if it's plastic.

I would try getting a block of aluminum in the proper thickness, shaping it with my dremel so it matches the lines of the RG, drilling holes where needed, and then try to attach it. You might have to do a lot of metal work. Honestly, that could end up being a massive waste of time if it doesn't turn out right.

Tough call, that's not going to be easy fix/restoration though. But I will keep thinking on it for you and maybe we'll have some inspiration.

SNIP
the seller neglected to tell me that he cut the front of the revolver frame off to demill it instead of plugging the barrel and keeping it intact.

The only legal way to "demill" a gun in the USA is to render the receiver destroyed to BATFE standards.
If he had done what you describe, that would definitely have been illegal by USA standards.
It would have then had to be sold and transferred under all the appropriate firearms laws.

His photos were deceiving showing it dissasembled and then in a holster. SNIP

On the deception point,
he was either ACTUALLY deceptive by not showing the gun destroyed to BATFE specs,
or he figured it is the customer's responsibility to know the BATFE regs.
Probably the first, but (shrugs).
Given that this is a standard revolver and not a Class III weapon,
I believe you can restore it without running afoul of da' law.

Mike

Well, he's not trying to restore it to firing, just for display, so I think it is legal. I know you can pick up solid aluminum receivers to restore a chopped up Thompson M1 to create a non working display model.

BATFE doesn't care whether it is for display or firing, only if it meets their regs.

Yep, that's generally my policy. You can pick up an RG31 off gun broker for less than $100, then you just have to find a local FFL who will handle the transfer for you, usually for around $35-$50.

I'm going to go with the blank gun option myself. I'll be ordering one in a few weeks.

Ya I really looked at and the dude didnt even cut straight lines or anything. It would be more work than I really want to put in to it. I may sell it on gunbroker or something.

Yes you are correct. My sight has no red paint on it and did come with a screw on eye piece. Bad news I had bought a demilled RG and the seller neglected to tell me that he cut the front of the revolver frame off to demill it instead of plugging the barrel and keeping it intact. His photos were deceiving showing it dissasembled and then in a holster. Oh well, live and learn. I'm thinking about sculpting the missing portion of the frame and still using it. I'll post photos when I can to collect some ideas. Also the sight doesnt fit on top of the RG31 well.

edit. I noticed the picture above it looks like its just resting on top with a screw in the middle.

It looks like 1 hex head screw and then there is something different in front of it. I can't tell exactly what it is though.

Oh yes, check with BATFE to make sure you comply with their regs. I believe they have a whole section of them for deactivated weapons/display weapons.

I'm finding it hard to find time to work on this cannon! Anyone else coming along on they're projects?

Cool Noeland, I need some motivation. I just got back from a wild week in Vegas so maybe taking up a stool to the workbench to decompress might be just what I need!

Hmm doesn't look familiar to me but it looks like the baby cannon type under barrel box is on top of the gun.

I finally figured out what it reminds me of. The muzzle used for the lightning guns in The Matrix.

:behave

Took me a while. :) The Matrix was on a few days ago.

Hope you had a good time in Vegas. I need a wild weekend in Vegas!

Been searching but have not been able to figure out the lasersight model on the 3357.

Anyone got any ideas? Is the big touch pad going into the box the lasersight activator?

Thanks

Just finished this and listed it in the Junkyard:

It has a working red dot lasersight wired just like the one in the film activated by the large touchpad. The lasersight was likely wired like this so the gun could be opened and reloaded without the wire coming down out of the back of the lasersight. I have never actually seen a Lasersight like his so I had to scratch build it out of a tube and a smaller lasersight and then figure out how to get the wires down and back to the touchpad.

The barrel block was scratch built as well. It's actually a piece of 2X4 cut down and covered in plastic. A bottom plate was added and hex bolts put in for accuracy. I added nice Hollow point bullets (just the bullet no casing or anything) and they look ubber cool in the gun. The gun is a lot of fun to play with as the cocking hammer sounding like it should. Not like a lot of modern wimpy sounding guns, aahchewSIG,.....
