I hope we see a licensed replica of Speed's helmet hit the market soon.

Saw a kid's toy one at Toys R Us yesterday. $24.99. I didn't get it for my son, but I almost did. We were out shopping for gifts for two of his cousins' birthdays and I didn't think it a good precedent to set in his mind to spend more on him than them. But I might go out on my own this week and pick it up - if they decide to do the costume I want to make them once we see it.

I've asked them to take me to this movie for Mother's Day this afternoon. :love

Just got back! Put up a review in the OT thread.

Trixie has a different costume for every 10 minutes of the film! Bleh...

That pink and black checkered dress is cute, but you never really get to see a full body shot of Trixie in it - I think the other woman wears it for longer!! You can't get much worse for character recognition than that

(Well, maybe Padme in Ep 3. - I made a mistake making a dress for that one that was only worn in promos and had a mere 5 minute shot in the dark in the movie and nobody knew who she was supposed to be) Can't stand that question 'who are you supposed to be.

So, I'm not sure what I'll do - maybe come up with a couple nickers outfits and let my niece pick which she likes best.

I actually really like Speed's helmet. I've looked through hundreds of helmets looking for it with no luck so I assume it's a custom sculpt. I did notice that the sheild hinge covers are identical to the ones on some Momo helmets so maybe that's found. Many companies make helmets in the same basic shape but the trick is, like the article says, how close it fits to the head, almost like the old pudding bowl racing helmets.

This is assuming it's a motorcycle helmet. Maybe it's a rescue or other type of helmet like mentioned in the other thread. Another type of helmet could certainly get away with a smaller shell.

I'd love to have one either way.

Years ago I got a Belgian riot police helmet from Sportsmans Guide with the intention of turning it into a Speed Racer helmet. It's boxed up, one of my many unfinished projects...

Okay so after seeing the movie this past weekend (loved it btw) I am most certainly interested in a Speed jacket. Only question is which one?
The first jacket he wore was white and blue (on the under sides of the arms and panels down the sides). During the cross country race he wore the white leather jacket with blue stripes on the arms while in the snowy areas. And then the final Grand Prix jacket (pictures on page 1) which had recessed sleeves under the shoulders that appeared to contain some blue under the shoulder caps.

Personally the cross country and grand prix jackets where a bit too bland for me. I don't mind a single color jacket but not if that color is white. I am sort of partial to the white/blue jacket he wore early on. Now only if I could find some pictures...
