Spako's homing beacons from Indy IV

Has anyone tried replicating these? I was re-watching the movie today and got to thinking. The flashing red LED would be very simple to do and could be powered by a couple of watch batteries.

The housing looks like machined aluminum with a clear domed plastic cap over the LED.
