Source for a good Bride of Frankenstein wig?

I really want one of these. I've seen some on eBay of varying quality, but none look quite like the one from the movie. Does anyone know where I could find a more accurate one? I'd be willing to get a lesser one if there was a way to alter it. Even if someone could point me to a way to make one from scratch, I could handle that, as I've had plenty of experience rerooting doll hair and am in the process of making a wig for Talky Tina. Any help would be appreciated.

I assume you are referring to the Bride from the classic Universal movie.

You know...

<---- her.

I have put a lot of thought into that wig myself as this would be one of my "holy grail" costumes to make, just got to lose some weight before I get wrapped in bandages and electrocuted. :lol

My suggestion, do not buy any "bride" wigs, they are all terrible to be honest. First off, the true color of the bride's hair is brown, not black. Also remember the actress who plays Mary Shelley in the beginning of the movie, she plays the bride as well. Notice how short her hair is, all one length as well.

Restyling an existing wig, unless you prefer to re-root a wig, would be the way I would go to create the Bride's hair "style". In fact this wig is easy to recreate, you can use a crimp iron, or finger waves, to create the texture and use hair cement to keep it up.

I hope my info was helpful.

I saw your avatar and was wondering if you'd respond to this thread! I've spent a lot of time thinking about what color I would use for a Bride wig. I had also read that Elsa Lanchester's hair was reddish-brown and frizzy/curly. According to several sources, it was her own hair, and not a wig. They used a "hair cage" and brushed her hair over and around it. The white pieces were supposedly made separately. It's been a while since I sat down and watched the movie, but I had assumed that when Lanchester was playing Mary Shelley, her hair was slicked back into a bun. Either that or they cut it short after filming the Bride segments, and filmed the Mary Shelly parts later on, with the new haircut.
It's not too difficult to get my hair frizzy, and I think it would be a decent color if I wanted to do the costume that way. If I could learn how to make one of those hair cages and secure my hair at the top, I could probably do that without too much trouble. The skin tone might be fun to match though.
Like I said, I could reroot the wig, but how would I get the hair to stay upright/secure the top?
The other option I thought about, was doing it in black and white, so instead of trying to get the right greenish palour, I could just use a light gray base, black hair, etc.

To keep your hair up, do what the Anime costumers do and use hair cement on their wigs to produce those anti-gravity spikes. Try googling "anime wig restyling" or something like that and you should find some good sites that can give you great tips.

I would only use a cage if I was certain I had enough hair, either on my head or on a wig, to completely cover the cage since someone might be able to see the cage otherwise and kill the look of the costume.

As far makeup, I would go for a pale/grey coloring even though I know Boris Karlof had to wear green makeup on the set but that was only so he appeared "ashy" on film. not sure about the Bride on the site however. This same concept was used on the Munsters on the TV series but when they carried the green makeup over to the color Munsters movies, the green makeup looked terrible to me. That's my take on it anyway. :D

My friend did the bride for a photoshoot a few years ago and styled her own hair plus crepe hair. However it took so long when she wanted to do it again she got a really good wig. I'll call her and ask where she got it and post some pics of both.

Oh I wish that was me in the photo but that would also mean I was created form parts of other dead girls...

Gods knows I've been called worse Ms. Hilton. :lol

Mine's in inside joke with the boy scouts here on the RPF.

I meant I thought that was a photo of you in your Bride costume, I didn't realize that was the actual actress. She's cute.
